8265 Wheel Loader

I thought you might all be interested to know that my 8265 wheel loader showed up in the mail tonight. I will be doing a review on it similar to the snow groomer, but I leave for vacation tomorrow. I doubt I will have adequate time tonight to do it justice, so it may have to wait until I get back!

I don't know, I haven't built it yet! I guess I could compare the boxes.

I saw both sets at legoland windsor yesterday, The box was about twice the size but I still have difficulty justifying the cost of the wheeled loader, if it had only come with a motor it would have been much better value for money, I just don't understand the price jump this year on technic sets?

The previous wheeled loader cost me £40 (I guess about 10 years ago when it was released without looking it up)

This one is nearly £70 so quite a jump

It seems like many other countries are getting ripped off on the Technic prices this year. I remember 8459 was $82 on S@H here back in 1997 and the 8464 reissue was $70. The $80 price of this new set is better than I expected, considering that it's bigger.

I look forward to seeing your review. I'm sure the box is bigger, as that is a trend we see in general these days.

Well, I don't have time to write my review before my vacation, but I did build the model last night. I posted the pictures on Brickshelf which you can view once moderated. It is a VERY good model and it is huge!

Wow that is impressive! I thought it would be just a simple update of the classic Technic "digger" but it looks VERY feature packed! So many axles etc, looks awesome. And, seeing it next to that Bulldozer makes me want that too. So tempted to skip the new Crane Truck and get the Dozer instead, it looks mean! :)

That is my favorite picture too. Those three u-joints are a thing of beauty. I may just have to get this set after all. The design seems to be just about flawless (unlike 8258), and even as a parts pack it includes tons of gears and three linear actuators.

I haven't built this set, but I've had a play and tried out the functions on both the Primary and the B model.

It is surely one of the sets I'm gonna get.

The photos are great themselves, but can't wait for the review so you can tell us what each function is. The only dislike from the 'looks' perspective is taht the bucket is a bit further out then I thought it would be, but it looks good with the 4-wheel drivetrain. All it needs is a motor to be hooked up to the engine and it could move.

I think the aesthetics on this model aren't as good as the old ones we've had so far but the technical aspects looks very promising.

Can't wait for the review. Seems to be a promising model which I will likely add to my collection.
