Spongebob '09?

Recommended Posts

Actually, 2009 will be Spongebobs FOURTH year.

Dang, I knew I should have looked that up before I posted. Math was never my thing.

These look nice, but I wil probably pass on the Krusty Krab, because I already have to other one. I will try to get Spongebob's house, because I never go the other one, and I want the new Squidward and Gary! I wish they would release that Patty Wagon as a seperate set for like $5-6...

Still, this is really annoying. Come on, these sets are almost exactly the same as the ones from 2006! Aside from a new Squidward head and the crabby patty car, there's basically nothing new here.

Actually, it is the 2nd year for the LEGO SpongeBob line of building sets. I'm speculating that these SpongeBob sets will coincide with the show's 10th anniversary on May 1st, 2009.

The newly redesigned pineapple home and Krusty Krab restaurant gets my seal of approval.

This theme is roughly two years old, and they're already doing redesigns?? Sheest.

You're right, Joebot, the LEGO SpongeBob line of building sets is two years old, having been started in August of 2006.

Actually, Grevious is correct about 2009 being SpongeBob's 4th year. As you point out the line started in 2006. So...

2006 - Year One.

2007 - Year Two.

2008 - Year Three.

2009 - Year Four.

Hope that clears things up.

Actually, 2006 is year zero. Year three is 2009. As you can see, the theme was in it's infancy back in 2006. One comes after zero. 2006+2=2008. Does that clear things up for you?

Who cares? There have been three years when the line has been out, and 2009 will be the fourth. This is rediculous...

I know my my math.

Other than that, the sets look great, in their third, not fourth, year.

Yes, I agree, that argument was ridiculous, but it is nothing to have a fight over, trust me, I know my math, I graduated high school two years ago.

It does clear something up for me. I can see where you are coming from now. You are looking at the age of the SpongeBob line like we would look at the age of a child. And in that sense you are right. If LEGO SpongeBob was 'born' in August 2006, then it turned two this past August and will turn three in August 2009. However, you are also wrong. 2006 was not the year zero. When a child is born it is not zero, it is in fact entering it's first year of life (measured by days, weeks and months). When that first year is complete it then enters it's second year of life, etc. To illustrate: according to your profile you were born in March 1987. That means you celebrated your 21st birthday last March. And if someone asks how old you are you will tell them you're 21; but you were actually working on your 21st year of life last year. You are now working on your 22nd year of life, which will be completed in March 2009.

To carry that over to the arguement at hand, in August 2006 LEGO SpongeBob began it's first year which was completed in August 2007. It then began it's second year, completed this past August. Now it's on it's third year to be completed August 2009, in which it will then begin it's fourth year. But nobody thinks about it like that. It's not a child, it's a product line. You simply say, 2006 was it's first year, 2007 it's second, 2008 it's third and 2009 will be it's fourth.

And with this post, I will now say that this arguement has 'jumped the shark' and take my leave.

But first a comment on the 2009 sets. When LEGO redesigns Star Wars sets you can tell they are redesigns. To me SpongeBob's pineapple house and the Krusty Krab look just like their predecessors with a few new accessories thrown in. Hopefully, LEGO will give us a third set later in the year - I'd like to see the Flying Dutchman myself.

Thanks Hinck

So I guess they are re-realeases :hmpf_bad: Still they look okay, if Krusty crab is $40 or less I might get it :sceptic:

Never mind that rant I had with Darthperson, and everyone else, I agree with them now.

OK, 2009 is LEGO SpongeBob's 4th year, and it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon next year on May 1st, 2009.

Let's talk about how great these LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants set pictures are.

The pineapple looks amazing!

I like how they improved on Squidward's head.

Gary the Snail looks like he's a new mold, rather than a brick built snail judging from the pic.

I also see that SpongeBob has a reefblower.

The Krusty Krab looks good, although it could've been bigger.

SpongeBob has new printed faces, I'm specuating that his backside is also printed like in 3832: The Emergency Room.

I really hope we can find bigger pictures of these sets, so that we can see the minifigs up close.

Pineapple: 5 stars

Krusty Krab: 3 stars

Nice new pics  . The new sets are pretty good but I think they are still not that old to get re-design :sceptic: . The new sets look almost the same (At simple look) as the 2006 ones at my opinion and well... come on TLC! the spongebob line has so much potential and well there are tons of sets they could release instead of re-designs. I remember some years back there was a rumor list posted in Bricklink that includes the Flying Duthman ship and the Sandy house so why not release them instead of going on the easy way :hmpf_bad: .

I think they want to improve on the design of each of the sets before creating new sets that equally detailed.

I think LEGO might soon create these sets:

  • Squidward's House
  • Patrick's House
  • Sandy's House
  • The Flying Dutchman's Ship
  • Jellyfish Fields
  • Karate Island
  • Shady Shoals Rest Home/The Mermalair
  • Goo Lagoon

I also think that they want to redesign the sets, so that they look nicer. I also hope that this time they add a second floor to SpongeBob's house and do away with the basketball hoop. The pineapple looks a little more round this time than it did the first time around. I also hope that this redesign has a back wall this time.

Sandys house will be an impossibility due to the fact that theres a huge clear dome around it. Unless they made a giant dome peice.

All of the rest seem possible.

Patricks house would be cool if it had an under ground bit all made in tan. To make Sandy's house they could use a pick a brick dome thing possibly?

Patricks house would be cool like that. Or they could do king Patricks. It would be awesome.

By brick dome do you mean by makeing a dome out of bricks. I'm afraid trans clear bricks aren't quite clear enough.

Love the new Squidward, Gary food dish, leaf blower, and book... everything else we've seen before.
