Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Introduction and Starting Thread
Rotaser replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Okay, I guess I will participate as soon as my vacation is over (though I do enjoy it). But there is one question about the ship rating: The imperial flagship is taken as an example for a class 5 ship. Nevertheless for the war sloop it would need approx. 20 guns (g 5), but the model itself only hosts 10. I am asking as I am building on a massive warship, but as it is orientated on the "genuine" sets, it only hosts 12 guns (so far, maybe some smaller cannons on the top deck). I am sorry if this question is totally out of place in this threat.- 2287 replies

There is just one thing I don't understan: why is corrington (the nation with as official sets the biggest port, largest ship and overall longer appearence) the weakest and Orleon (small vessel and relativley small forts) being related to large vessels and power... But as long as there is a consistent background with enough freedom to make one's own fortune I'll be the last to let it go down.

BoBS Needs your help brainstorming ship types!

I just would like to say that we (or let us say most of us) are hardly able to build (and man) "realistic" ships. As for definitions, I agree with Kurigan to let the names evolve fluidly. Wouldn't it be best to let the system be based on the existing ships from the (classic) pirate line than to overcomplicate the system with tons of nautical terms most don't understand fully. (I myself did some research over the age of sail in wikipedia, but mostly on german, for example) -
A nice little ship. I like the yellow accents, as well, although it looks a bit like there should be more of it (the rear castle has none of it, for example). I think, if a ship lacks a strong "colourfull" colour as an accent to break up the rather boring black-brown mix-up.

MOC: Large landscape with Islanders, Imperial Guards, Soldiers and Arm
Rotaser replied to sander1992's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow, just wow... the love for details is just stunning. I guess I could look at the pictures a third and fourth time and still see something wonderful. I really appreciate that you integrated a lot of the classic sets and not only the vessels. Must have been even greater seeing it in real. -
At first I expected a modell the size of Whitecap Bay, but I was really impressed, when I saw what it really is. It looks really good, although I would love to see some detailed shots (*hint*). I would suggest the problem of the fort (or rather keep, I think) is tha plain colour scheme. A few more spots of black and red might solve this. Are you going to add some smaller structures to the port later? Such as cranes, market stands, a signal fire and the like?I am honestly excited to see what will come next. One more thing I would like to ask for, though: Could you show the port with a docked ship? I just would like to see both in comparison.

Just looked t up: we were both wrong (me more than you, though). The Museum break in is indeed in tan, but no "striped" round bricks at all. The grey one comes in various sets, but none earlier than 2003 (ca.). Alas, you really want us to wait until fall before we see more of these marvelous creations?

It has nice ideas and the cabin is very cute and detailed, but overall it is more or less a bulky and edgy hulk. I know it is difficult to create something slender with edged bricks, but it is possible. It looks a bit like an island outpost put on top of a ship, it is hardly imaginable that the ship would sail at a reasonable speed. And besides: She misses a rudder ;-)

Wellthe question is more what it would be worth for you, but I wouldn't pay more than the brickbounty, these two ships are just too similiar.

Really nice build with lovely details. Can't wait to see what you've planned in addition. Besides, the "engraved pillar blocks" can't be from the 90's. Would need to look up at brickset to be sure, though. They might be part of the city set "museum robbery" (or similiar) 3 years ago (about).

I voted for C, as I'll take it like board or computer games: Start easy (basic rules/tutorial) and than build up (advanced or house rules/side-quests). But as I read through this topic I have to admit, that I would go confirm with Phred (advanced rules for quests). The brickbeards bounty. The darker red looks more realistic to me and the ship is slightly bigger. And of course the giant shark

I guess the appeal for the Blues is on the one hand they were the first (nostalgia, more or less my reason, too) and they are "up-to-date" (increased availablity for specific parts). Each faction may get a "handycap-factor" depending on the number of (active) members for correction purposes. And never underestimate the advantage: the less members, the higher in rank your mediocre MOC is and the more points you get (in the limit: if you're the only one of eslandola, your creations are always best ;-)

Okay, I just had some time and this is my suggestion on the flag of Oleon (or just the coat of arms of my SigFig) and their trading fleet. Still need to resize it for the 2x2 flag, though. Another idea that was floating in my mind was to use the blue lion(O Leon, got it?) flag from the castle theme to use it. This would make it easy, as pre-printed parts could be used. And additionally, the faction "Red" and "Blue" wouldn't sail around with a flag that similiar

If you'd just read through this whole thread, than you might have noticed this to start in a couple weeks if not month, as there is still a lot of planning to do. Nevertheless, the more time you have to be prepared yourself (collecting usefull bricks and minifigs, thinking about your background story, and so on). That`s what I am doing...
