For this MOC of a certain British Railways 9F class 2-10-0 steam locomotive, (which is my third attempt at this specific engine type, and second version in orange) I have taken Harry Potter set 76423 - Hogwarts Express and Hogsmeade Station - and modified the 4-6-0 steam engine portion of the set by a extreme amount... which is probably putting it mildly! I stretched the model out to it's maximum plausible length of two leading wheels, ten driving wheels and zero trailing wheels for Murdoch from the Thomas and Friends TV show. I also added a different boiler, smoke deflectors, a new tender, smaller leading / driving wheels, and whole bunch of other stuff. In fact, I changed so much of 76423, that there really isn't much of the original engine left! The tender is also 100% my own design, and is reused from my Flying Scotsman model... and yes, I know this isn't totally accurate to the real-world class but it's close enough for me! The tender has the number 17 on it, even though the 'real' Murdoch doesn't have a number. Also, the front buffer beam is too low (this isn't fixable, sadly), so I used the older kind but without a magnet. Below in the spoiler tag you will find my original 9F model pictures from 2014, and the first version of Murdoch from 2022. (Both of these were seven wide models, whereas the current version is six studs wide.) Thoughts? -
There were always problems with the drivetrain when trying to pull heavy loads. It went up to 12kg total weight (transformer transport) but only with a crack. Now I've used the new diffs and nothing cracks anymore, even with more weight. The Actros weighs 2.9kg, the module 1.6kg, the shovel tooth 4.6kg, the large brick 2.7kg and the small 0.33kg, making a total weight of 14.6kg -
