Location: A06 - Guinevere Tags: Military, Piracy, Land Vehicle. M.A.N.T.I.S Special Forces log: Myra Dynarski 21 Junali 3815, M.A.N.T.I.S. supply camp on Guinivere. Previous entry I'd been feeling nauseous, so I stopped by one of the supply depots for some meds, only to find a bunch of Octan and Kawashita agents sitting around chatting like they were at a tea party, rather than in the camp of their sworn enemies (or at least business competitors)! I don't think they were even armed - at least they didn't put up a fight. They all escaped in vehicles, and I was unable to keep up. I did manage to steal [Redacted - All M.A.N.T.I.S. operations are 100% legal] liberate their leftover drinks.

Location: B05 - Marphacia Tags: Vehicle, Exploration, Military Endor and his team had been sent to Marphacia to explore the options Kawashita had to set up a base there. Knowing that most of the planet was swampland, the team packed a lot of hover equipment. Endor and Jack Harkness had been tasked with testing out the new proto-type bot named the Armadillo. It was the perfect exo-suit for inhospitable planets where small vehicles were the most convenient to use. It was able to roll up into a protective shell if the environment was too hostile. One of the explorers on the team, Kirk, decided he didn't want to wait until the Armadillo had been tested and took a group of "Red-Shirts" as his band of friends had been dubbed. They found out pretty fast that the swamp was no place to go without proper protection as the native flora was slightly deadly. A few of the team focused on training with their respective weapons. A gentleman who went by the name of "Cloud" was training with his buster sword against Hiro. Valentine occupied herself with setting up targets via remote control for Rose Tyler to shoot down. This team of elite Kawashitites would show the planet Marphacia that it was no match for them. One way or another they would find the best way to colonize the planet. OoC: This was my first time using a new DSLR that I got. I'm still getting used to the camera so some of the pictures turned out a little blurrier than I wanted. In time my photography will get back to what it was before, and then hopefully continue to improve!

I've been sent down to Guinevere to find the Kawashita listening post that has been spying on fleet operations. There appears to be a red object lying in the sands ahead. The object appears to be alive.... Slowing down to check it out..... #$@^ THESE LAND VEHICLES AND BRAKES! I'M A PILOT FOR A REASON! CRUNCH! AAh.... I suppose i should get this fixed and go back and have a look. It won't slow down still! Got it! Backing up to see what that was. Oh. Guess that Kawashita guy had it coming though. Pangolinus out. Kawashita Engineer's Log - AC - B08 Greater Direstan Having arrived at the bottom of a range of mountains on Greater Direstan, we found a series of caves. I'm not sure they look like natural formations, but whether they are natural or not, there's plenty of awesomnium veins in them. I'm trying out a prototype mining drill to see how well it works. There's a pulse laser doing the actual cutting, so all the maneuvering of the vehicle is done using displays on the control panels. Don't want to have an accident with one of these things. As pieces of the rock are cut, they drop onto the conveyor belt which carries the material behind the vehicle and into waiting transports where it will be taken away for the awesomnium to be separated from the rest of the rocks. Can't see in the photos clearly, but there's a control wheel on both sides of the driving position and the pulse laser can rotate left to right and angle up and down.

Location: A06 (Guinevere) Tags: Piracy Science Land Vehicle It had been a pretty busy week on Guinevere for Scorpio and Elbow and Pitt, his two assigned SPIT (Special Police in Training). After dispatching the Octan spy, they discovered a few more Octan agents nearby—which with some efficient work from the SPIT quickly became a few less. They may be a bit dim-witted, but the SPIT sure knew their way around an assault blaster. Scorpio was still a bit bummed about that having given his grubs to them. Even more so because today—larvae Friday, course—he had missed lunch, due to an over-long briefing with his superiors. When he got back, the SPIT had seen to it there were no leftovers, except salad. Meh. The brief had been long because Kawashita troops had touched down on the other side of Guinevere a few days previous. The council was deliberating the best course of action, and had orders for Scorpio to not engage in a violent encounter. In the SPITs’ mind, that took all the fun out of it, and Scorpio had to agree. He had decided that even though being a scientist wasn’t bad, he enjoyed these more exciting kinds of missions. Scorpio and the SPIT went to the Kawas’ landing site. Although there weren’t many of them, clearly they had gotten right to work right after landing, as there were several crates already filled with gold. As the M.A.N.T.I.S craft was approaching, Scorpio saw them all stop to watch. He could see that although a few of them were carrying arms, they didn’t seem to be in any hurry to shoot. He imagined they had similar orders from their higher-ups to avoid armed conflict, which was somewhat reassuring. One of the Kawas, clearly their leader, emerged from the back and advanced toward Scorpio. “This is our claim,” he insisted. “You Mantite scum better get on outta here.” “Sorry, M.A.N.T.I.S. already claimed all of Guinevere. So, you’re the ones on our turf.” As he spoke, Scorpio suddenly realized that he had underestimated their numbers, and hoped his hunch about their orders was correct. “Ha!” the Kawa leader laughed. “It doesn’t matter. We have already extracted almost everything here, as you can see—” he motioned towards the crates. “But I’d like to see you try and make us leave, anyway.” “I’ll tell you what,” Scorpio replied. “Let’s make a deal, you and I, to see who leaves this spot, and who can stay.” The Kawa leader laughed again, followed by the rest of his team. “What kind of a deal? You can see, I have more men, more arms, and more gold! And I have my orders. What could you offer me?” “Oh, this is not an offer. This is a challenge. We challenge you to a contest—you win, we will leave you in peace to do whatever you please in this place. We win—” Scorpio paused to look around at all the Kawashita troops, “and you leave forever. Not just this spot—but the planet. You leave Guinevere for good.” “Ha ha! This insect is a joker! I will indulge you, what kind of contest did you have in mind?” “How about a race? Ah never mind, you wouldn’t stand a chance against us. Let’s pick something more fair…” In his mind, Scorpio counted to three. He only got as far as two. “You boast, Mantite! Kawashita engines are the fastest, and our drivers the most skilled! I accept your challenge, if only to teach you humility!” “Very well, then. Your fastest land craft against ours. You pick your racer, and Pitt here,” Scorpio motioned toward the more dim-witted of the SPIT, “will drive for M.A.N.T.I.S.” As Scorpio and the Kawa leader shook hands, Pitt leaned over toward Scorpio and whispered, “I don’t think I can. I’m not that good a driver—not as good as these Kawas, for sure—and I’m starting to feel a little sick. Like I’m going to…” but he never finished his sentence; the words were drowned out by awful wretching noises, and drowned in a pool of sick. “I feel sick, too, sir.” the SPIT leader, Elbow, intuned. Then, looking over at Pitt, said, “but I think I’ll be fine.” “Well good, because I need you to come with me.” “What about me, sir?” Pitt inquired. “You still have to drive,” Scorpio answered. “But don’t worry; it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, just as long as you drive for at least five minutes or so.” “Why doesn’t it matter?” Elbow asked. “Because,” Scorpio began, “while all these fools are cheering on the race, you and I are going to steal them blind and make a quick escape. Don’t worry, Pitt, we’ll pick you up in the ship. Elbow, come and help me set up some telesponders over here.” While the Kawa leader was explaining the course and rules to Pitt and the Kawa driver, Scorpio and Elbow set up the antenna-like devices around the crates of gold. As the start pistol fired, Scorpio summoned the teleporter crate and quickly rerouted it to the telesponders; before the dust had even settled, Scorpio, Elbow, and the gold were all gone. ********* Other weeks I have incorporated the story with the build, but this week the story is really just to build-up the, uh, build. With both teams landing on the same planet, it was fun to think up some way to bring conflict into the mix without any actual conflict. C&C welcome, as always! [K - B05] The Investigation Continues... Okay, so, somewhere in the creation process, I lost around 3 hours of work, so the scene ended up quite differently from my original idea. However, I'm very satisfied with the result (I've been wanting to build this particular mech (which is also my first), for quite some time now). The build is around 6500 pieces, of which the mech is around 800. Location: E02 - Jurin II Tags: Building, Vehicle, Spaceship, Land Vehicle, Exploration After crash landing on E02, Pilot John Hannibal assesses his situation with his trusty droid Dora. They must move across the island chains, looking for communication equipment to coordinate an emergency pick up. But, the Octan walker that survived the crash is unable to maneuver through the aggressive flora on the island floors. With a few modifications, Hannibal's new climber is ready to scale the tremendous island trees and swing across the terrain. I am accompanying one of my Drones as it collects samples, and making observations on the natural growth habits of the local xeno-flora. Air is breathable, Temperature is a pleasant 20 degrees Celsius at night at my current location, and the stars are readily visible. In-fact, I believe I can see the O.C.S. Axle from where I am.... This planet will make a fine resort-world for Octan's retirees. Naturally, specimens must be taken to scan for harmful bio-organisms and viruses, the analysis of which will take place in the pristine labs aboard the O.C.S. Axle. Dr. Long signing off."// Science by the light of the stars //"This is Dr. Long, aboard personal shuttle O.C.S. Cog 1, entering Space Dock 1 of O.C.S. Axle. Prepare decontamination shower for myself and my pilot. Aboard craft are 6 Sc106 Drones filled with xenobiological specimens. Follow typical extraction protocol for low-threat xenobiological contaminants. primary containment and threat assessment in high-risk section of Axle, followed by distribution to low-threat labs as deemed appropriate. Arrival time in approximately 10 minutes. Make that chemical shower warm, and prepare my usual soap cocktail. Dr. Long signing off."// Decontamination Note: This piece was meant to convey a sense of loneliness and cold removedness, and the red chemical shower itself is meant to be rather off-putting. All-in-all I wanted to evoke Fan-Disservice, and not the more ubiquitous opposite of that trope. The build was actually quite a bit more difficult than the pictures may imply, but it was built specifically for this one shot, so the technique I used to create the octagon that comprises the shower goes completely unnoticed. hope you enjoy! Being short staffed, Z was send out to find Awesomnium on Jurin II by mister Business himself. Z build a scouting vehicle. It packed a bit more juice than anticipated. He did find Awesomnium... among other things. That extra juice came in quite handy... Threw together a quick build in between building my new kitchen.

Spencer's Diary, Maian 21, 3815 There's no excitement to match the feeling of being among the first to set foot on a new planet. Hooray for pastures new! Although, around here the pastures seem pretty barren. Still, the orbital scans suggested that this should be a good region to prospect for Awesomnium - that's why I'm here with my trusty drilling rig, Edwina. Hmm, that rocky outcropping looks like a good place to start. Sure enough, a few minutes' drilling reveals an Awesomnium node! Time to try out the portable sample collector and ore analyzer the Octan tech guys fitted Edwina with, and find out what sort of a deposit we're looking at. Looks like I'll be pretty busy for the next few days...

Y’know, I have this horrible feeling I’ve forgotten something… This is so exciting! A new intelligent alien species! Yeah! Alright nerds, don’t get too excited. You’re here to learn quietly – when the aliens get here, let me do the talking. You scientists aren’t properly trained in PR. But how are we supposed to study the aliens without talking to them? I don’t care. Octan needs new allies – I don’t want you offending them by asking how many kidneys they have, or whatever. AHHHH! What the-? Where did that come from?! <Do not be alarmed, humans.> That voice… it’s in my head! <Yes. We speak directly by thought.> Uh, Sal, do you think it can read our minds? Location: F09 Arium Minor Tags: Exploration, Land Vehicle Mission Log: Entry 21 ~ It was time to bring out the big guns, as Agent Kytes put it. We chained our captive mutant to one of the troopers assigned to our squad, and set off in hot pursuit, with it as our "guide". HQ assigned us to a Kawashita Armoured Troop Transport (KATT). Akiko, who is an excellent shot, took the gunner's position atop the vehicle, while everyone else piled into the back. After a short distance, Ekira (who was driving) caught sight of what appeared to be some sort of alien concealed in the sand. I got out to investigate... As we set off again, Akiko hailed me from her vantage point, saying that she could glimpse smoke on the horizon. I sensed that, for good or ill, our planet-wide quest was about to conclude... That was when the world began to whirl and spin around me and a weird purple light filled my entire vision. Then nothing. The KATT C & C welcome. Apologies for the picture-heaviness

Location: B06 Sorn Tags: Land Vehicle The Armored Humanoid Mobile Frame 'Guren', extremely versatile and advanced piece of Kawashita engineering work, capable of among many things deal with Giant Alien wildlife, move around large heavy cargo, fight against hostile corp... I mean pirates and mercenaries. Can be outfitted with whatever tools it requires for any given situation and operated by a human pilot (requires extensive training). The Armored Humanoid Mobile Frame Guren The Guren in Action Pose as promotional material to demonstrate full manoeuvrability. The Guren is outfitted with flight/boost pack capable of very short durations of flight, it's main purpose to ascend or descend across varied landscapes or increase movement speed, not intended for flight however. The Guren sports a very comfy cockpit. That's all folks, suggestions are always welcome, one of my personal goals is to become a pro Mech builder so idea's for improvement are welcome and appreciated

Rumors have circulated around Donwarr that there is an Oracle living at the northern pole of the planet. Now, as I have been dropped at the closest location, my orders are to find this oracle. I should have brought a vehicle. *Faint Engine Hum* What's that? Focusing Optical sensors. Speeder Detected. Not Octan. If you seek the Oracle, walk behind my speeder in utter silence. Location: F03 Tags: Land Vehicle, Spying Ok, but... just explain it to me one more time... Unbelievable! This plan is like spying 101, I don't understand how you're not getting it. I've hacked Octan's computers to trick them into thinking they’ve detected a prisoner transport. They’re going to come after you thinking they’re rescuing one of their guys. Right… Redsyn here is one of our best drivers – he’ll lead them on a merry chase but will eventually let you be ‘rescued’. By using the tracking device we implanted in you we’ll find out where their base is when they take you back there. Simple! Uh… ok, I think I understand now. But why not use an actual Octan prisoner? I have… other uses… for the real prisoners. Unless you’d like to trade places with them? No sir! I thought not… But won’t they realise I’m not actually from Octan? No, they’ll never suspect it. I thought you said this was obvious, like spying 101… Don’t worry, our forces will show up well before Octan has time to find you out. This plan is foolproof! Wait… To be continued! Well spotted Grayson! Ready the MANTIS™ Depth Ray©. We’ll disable the sub’s engines and drive it to the surface. Target locked! Firing! Alright Grayson, cut the MANTIS™ Depth Ray©. They’ve had about enough, I reckon. You’re right, they’re surfacing fast! Now remember, we don’t want to add to M.A.N.T.I.S.’s image problem, so try not to kill anyone. There’s no hurry; it’ll take them days to fix the damage to their engines, so just knock them out or throw them overboard. Ugh, PR takes all the fun out of life. Ready to board – go, go, go! Location: F10 - Arium Major Tags: Land Vehicle Kawashita Engineer's Log - AC - F10 Arium Major It was decided that Kawashita needed a greater presence on Arium Major, a planet mostly dominated by Octan. While preogress had been made by other construction crews, we've been sent to an area that hasn't been covered yet. I've come down to survey the area for construction works with Dave and Lloyd using an old Recon Rover. The interior is a bit cramped as most of the equipment is hidden behind the bodywork panelling, but the computer systems do the job okay. The driving cab is a bit more spacious, allowing Dave a good view of where he's driving. He won't be getting a crick in the neck from looking at any monitors all day... HaHa, got the bugger! What was that? Nothing... Didn't sound like nothing to me. You're not playing that game again are you? Kind of. You're meant to be monitoring the data recording. I've almost beat my best score though. More pics in the spoiler below. Parts of it didn't turn out quite how I wanted, especially the back, but I didn't have as much time as I thought I would this week. I think it actually looks slightly better in real life aswell, I struggled a bit with the photos, again due to limited time...
