  3. Nice to meet you levork and welcome to the Club of the CUUSOO failures! (I'm the owner of the infamous "Winchester/Shaun of the Dead" project, aka CUUSOO failure #1) Don't get me wrong, you did an outstanding job at creating these MF, I was obviously missing some info as I thought these had been created for the purpose of posting them on CUUSOO. You gave it a shot and you were right to try, this project deserved its chance.
  4. I guess the lesson learned from the Street Fighter fiasco is that people should not spend too much time polishing their initial CUUSOO submission. First try to have your idea accepted and then work on developping it further as you go. (that is if you still believe in CUUSOO... ) If this guy had first tried to submit a couple of figs to get a pulse of how TLG felt about it before going full scale with the 16 he would at least have spared himself a part of the disapointment. Anyway, improving and expanding your ideas/concepts as you go also provides you with the opportunity to communicate on the status of your project, generate some discussions and perhaps incorporate comments and feedbacks from other people into the mix. If you get started with a fully wrapped-up project you're left with nothing to sell but what you have. Being able to maintain a certain level of interest around your project is a must for anyone who wants to go far in the support gathering phase. In what concern the question whether or not the project was inline with the guidelines... You guys can debate all you want around the interpretation of the rules but you must not forget the most important sentence of the entire CUUSOO guideline: It's their rules their call.
  5. lol... really? I'm sorry but if you were looking for something smart to say to celebrate your tenth post on EB I believe you blew your chance beautifully. If you don't like what you see please just say so, or don't... but please don't start speculating on what other people might think. Haha, yeah, I hope that the people who really do this are actually happy about it! This scene is supposed to be a humorous vision of the book... if I recall correctly I believe both the guy and the girl remain impassible when they first enter the "red room of pain"... My goal was to make a parody, something like the book "Fifty Shades of Earl Grey".
  6. I would agree with Harry Potter but the Star Wars line has proven itself to remain popular even without new movies coming out (and no, Episode I 3D does not count!)
  7. Thanks for the feedback J.V.D.! Well.. I could very well picture this in the Winchester! You may recall that the initial version of the Win posted on CUUSOO had no detailed interior on the 1st and 2nd floors. So.. when, I asked myself what to place in there I had all kinds of crazy ideas. Admittedly I did not think of adding a play room like this one but I thought of adding an armory, a poker room… In the end I settled on a more conventional approach in order not to jeopardize the meager chances of success the project had… meh, I should have gone all the way. Thank you! You know what they say, everything is better when made out of LEGO!
  8. Thanks for the feedbacks! ... I find interesting to see that there are more comments from Ladies than from guys... I'm sure it has nothing to do with the book though and it must be a coincidence.
  9. Hello! Here is my latest MOC a BDSM vignette (yep, that's not something you see everyday!) Fifty Shades of Bricks by Yatkuu, on Flickr "Fifty Shades of Grey" is an erotic novel by E.L. James. Currently only available in English this book is a huge best seller in the US... note that it is currently being translated in 30 different languages so if you have not heard of it yet you should know that it's coming! There is even talk of a movie adaptation... That's right, it's huge, this thing is the new twilight. Anyway, I wanted to see for myself what the fuss was all about so I just started reading it... I won't dwell on the book's content here because it's not the place to do so. I'll just say that I don't understand how something like this could become so popular so fast.... but it inspired me to build something around it.
  10. Replace the guys with a blond girl and you would get yourself a nice "Buffy" vignette! Very cool!
  11. Very original project and extremely well executed. I'm guessing that the small cabin on the side is the sauna? Good luck in the CUUSOO journey!
  12. Thank you for the praise! I have included a paypal email address in the instructions intro Please keep us posted if you ever build your own Win!
  13. I believe you can generate an xml from Brickstore that can then be exported to a BL wanted list. In the end I did not get any confirmation from BL sellers, maybe it will come later...
  14. Hello! I just posted the building instructions of the Winchester in this other thread, enjoy!
  15. Build a Win! by Yatkuu, on Flickr Hello everyone, here is the last chapter of the Winchester adventure... Today my friend Pixel Fox and myself are very happy to share with you the building instructions of the Winchester! I want to say a huge thanks to Sylvain from 1001 Bricks and Marc a.k.a. Roamingstudio for their help in making this possible. Here are the different download links: Link 1 – PDF instructions (3 files in a Zip archive – 1 pdf per floor – total size 16MB) These are the step by step building instructions, similar to what LEGO produces for its official sets. Link 2 – Source Files (LDRAW/.ldr files + LDD/.lxf file + .bsx parts inventory + .bsx Minifigures parts inventory 6 files in a Zip archive – total size 134KB) - the .ldr files – these are the different floors of the Winchester rebuilt in 3D with LDRAW (MLCad), a freeware program which can create Lego models in 3D. These are the files we have used to create the instructions with Lpub. - the .lxf file – this is the complete Winchester rebuilt in 3D with LEGO Digital Designer. Once you download and install the LDD software (it’s free) you will be able to visualize the Win from all possible angles and analyze its composition brick by brick. - the .bsx files, these are parts inventories generated with the free software “Brickstore” You will need to install the program to view the list of bricks. We hope you will enjoy the build! If you ever decide to build your own Win either based on our design or your own, please send us a picture or post it in this dedicated Flickr group! Yatkuu & Pixel Fox
  16. Glad to see you guys are still enthusiasts about this! I confirm that the instructions are going to be released this Saturday, we're basically still fine tuning some details! As for the BrickLink side, right now I did not get a firm confirmation from any BrickLink store that they will try the super lot option... but with the inventory parts list available in brickstore format you can easily export to your BL "wanted" lists and look for suitable sellers...
  17. lol! I can understand your son... I hate that monkey.
  18. Thanks! You can follow the discussion on BL forums here.
  19. Hello everyone, Sorry for taking so long but it's finally here - the parts list of the Winchester Tavern! So... what have we been up to for the past few weeks... well, together with a couple of AFOL friends we have thoroughly reviewed the Win from top to bottom in order to improve the stability and optimize the brick count and types. No wonder it takes a team of LEGO people to do this, designing a MOC and a set are very different matters. If you have been following the Winchester story you might remember that the build posted on CUUSOO was featuring a brick-built base - very nice looking but not very realistic to sell as a set. As a consequence we have chosen to rebuild it on a standard base plate. Well.. not really standard actually because the base is now made of 1 32*32 and 2 8*16, making it an overall base of 32*40. The reason for choosing a standard base was also to facilitate the compatibility with the existing modulars. Note that we are talking about a compatibility in size and look but not a 100% compatibility. The Win was never designed to be a "row" building or at least never meant to be placed right next to buildings of equal size. The build features an offset of 1 stud in every direction because of the roof design so it cannot be "connected" to the other modulars. That being said it is fairly easy to integrate it into a city layout, as illustrated in these pictures Life isn't made of straight lines and square houses so we actually hope that this design can bring a touch of originality to the boring modular streets. I believe the recently unveiled Haunted House also shows that the modular standards can be tweaked when needed. Now.. onto the files... here is the link to download them. This zip file contains the following files: .lxf of the build (Lego Digital Designer) .bsx file of the parts (Brickstore parts list) .bsx of the Minifigs The bsx of the build gives a piece count of 2337 items, 303 lots. The lxf on the other hand gives a total of 2329 items. The difference can be explained by the absence of decorated tiles in the lxf as well as a couple of other pieces that could not be included in the 3D model such as the rubber bands used in the juke-box design or the leaves that are placed in an "illegal fashion". Transitioning an LDD file into Brickstore can be a painful experience in particular for such a large model... I hope we did not miss anything in the process. We have also included the parts list of the minifigs but this is more for information only. I can appreciate that putting together this group of mix-matched figs would be quite a challenge for a BL store. I'm pretty sure that some people might be interested in buying these in a lot but this design in merely 1 interpretation of Shaun and his gang, everyone is of course free to make his own. So... what are the next steps? We will now work on creating the pdf instructions of the build. The idea is to release a 3 parts pdf instruction booklet, 1 per floor just like the official modulars. LDD can help generate instructions but anyone who has tried it will know that there is a lot of editing needed in order to make these instruction easy to follow. We will also "photoshop in" the missing details such as the decorated tiles. Once ready, we will release these instructions - for free - everywhere the Win was featured. That includes LEGO forums (Eurobricks, Brickset, Brickpirate..), movies oriented forums (Peggster, Spaced out..) and Facebook (Official page of the Winchester project, LZA - Lego Zombie apocalypse)... overall that's a lot of eyes. With any luck, Simon Pegg or Edgar Wright might even pick-up the story but I can of course not guarantee that. So, here is the deal: We would like to release the instruction in 3 weeks from now - Saturday June 30. Up until June 29, any BL store that wants to give a shot at selling the Winchester in a "super lot" can shoot us an email at this address: contact@makethewinchester.com If you're up for this, we will include the link to the homepage of your BL store or any other page that you think is more appropriate into the instruction release announcement. Just to be clear, our intention is to list the BL stores who wish to participate per country in the announcement - for instance: Belgium Store A - hyperlink to the BL store or any other web page you want. / Ships worldwide Yes/No. Store B France Store A Store B USA Store A Store B etc.. Note that how you intend to sell the set is your call.. 1 lot, lots per floor, new or used parts, with or without figs, immediate purchase or pre-order system... it's all good for us. We want to give this project a chance to succeed no matter how we get there. As stated before, we have no financial interest in this project. We will include a "donation" link in the release for anyone who wants to help finance our future projects but we are not asking for a cut on the sets you might be selling. We will make very clear in the announcement that we have no interest in the deal and that we provide the links to the BL stores for purely information purpose. We ask of you to be equally clear in any communication with potential customers. After the release of the instructions you will be on your own to promote your business and we will no longer communicate on the project. Note that if you wish to start advertising the Win already now this is absolutely fine with us. As of today we consider the Win as open source and you can make whatever you like with it... we think that a coordinated effort will have a greater impact but that's just our opinion. I hope a lot of you will be interested in giving this a shot.. if this works it will perhaps inspire more similar initiatives. A negative review by LEGO on CUUSOO should not mean the end of a project that managed to gather 10k supporters. Now, if you have any questions please go ahead! Yatkuu
  20. I'm sorry but I'm not sure I follow you. What do you mean by a separate project altogether? This project got at least 95% of its supporters based on 1 specific idea but it would be acceptable to somehow "transfer" these supporters to a different project assuming that the 9500 people who voted for the bucket would be equally supportive of the new version? I don't know what is LEGO CUUSOO' stance on this question but as a former project owner myself I find the manoeuvre higly questionable. I know that as project owner on CUUSOO you have the ability to update your project description and pictures whenever you want (for the Winchester I was able to change the description until they decided to "archive it"). But in my opinion this ability does not give you the right to modify the project subject because that is just deceiving anyone who voted for the initial version.
  21. So let me get this straight.. this project got almost 10k supporters based on a description of 100 figs in a bucket ... and at the last minute the description was changed to 17 figs + a brick built Star Wars logo? Seriously?
  22. lol, funny thread. Guys, you need to look at this from a kid's perspective. My son is crazy about flickfire missiles. He does not care if it's positioned right or if it is working or not.. he just loves to play with them (he's 4 yo). Last week-end we built together the Alien Conquest command center and once finished he played with the missiles for 30 min, at that point I told him to stop because I was growing tired or rebuilding the turret each time!
  23. Same here, freezes while initializing on my 2 computers. I guess we need to wait... for TLG to solve the problem.
  24. Awesome job, an inspiring project!
  25. Good lord, the quality level is insane... 11: Cara Above the Clouds - 3 points (how many swords in that dragon?!) 15: gabe The isle with no name - 2 points (the micro version of the island is genius)
