  1. Thanks Grogall! Certainly looking forward to it... and it seems like TLG realizes they've got a winner on their hands with the Winter theme!
  2. So weird-- I am totally NOT a Space guy... the last non-SW space set I probably built out of a box included a classic red space minifig. And yet, I am totally enthused by this new line-- the more and more I look at the pics the more I want to dive into it!! This set is possibly my least favorite of all of them, but I will say it also features a stunning design-- I'm not a big fan of the wings, though. In this review I thought it looked better before the inverted wings were attached. Great review, and thanks!
  3. Can't speak for the rest of the world, but the American TRU lists it as $89.99USD. Only slightly overpriced-- could be a great set to pick up at a discount during the holidays.
  4. THREE Winter Sets...??? Definitely didn't see that coming! We already knew about the Post Office, courtesy of Grogall-- any further details on the other two?
  5. HUGE FIND, Tiger! 822 pieces... did I read that correctly? Wondering where the price will fall? Awesome looking set, sure to look amazing with the other two beneath the Christmas tree!
  6. Typo, gentlemen... sorry. Of course I meant PT. I will say, the new Naboo Fighter will probably tempt me more than any Prequel set before... I've always loved the design of the craft, and it just seems to be really well executed this time around. But as I said earlier, this set is certainly impressive as well.
  7. I'm not an OT guy, but I must say, that's a good-looking set right there. Podracers are well-designed, and lots of interesting figs too. I won't purchase, but I can certainly say, "Well done, TLG."
  8. Just reading about the giveaways with qualifying offers at the Shop.Lego.com-- you know, 30062 Target Practicefor the US and 7235 Police Motorcyclefor the UK. Got me to wondering... Why do we have so many Police sets, especially smaller sets like 7236 and 7741, that sit on retail shelves basically year after year, and yet the motorcycle has disappeared from retail shelves and is only available online? Any chance that they might be put back out on the shelves in 2012? I've got a whole handful of highway patrol officers from Series 2 that are just begging for their own cycles over here!!
  9. I was thinking about this last night, namely what will be the best way to identify the dwarf... and your list confirms what I thought. There's no single element in the rest of Series 5 that will feel quite like the rod that will serve as the dwarf's axe handle. During Series 4 it was this piece that allowed me correctly identify 6 vikings by feel alone. Well, okay, I'm partially lying, originally I mistook the artist's brush as this piece, but I can't truly consider this a failure since I wanted a second artist anyway. But yes, Richard, you're spot on-- it's not always the big bulky pieces that are the giveaway. Sometimes they get all caught up in the middle of the pack and it's hard to feel them out. Smaller pieces, on the other hand, like ice skates and bones, or even musketeer plumes, will easily fall into the corner of the bag and can be ID'd rather easily. ALSO --> Anyone else worried that a previous bag-feeler will end up wrinkling your graduate's gown??
  10. Stop stop stop... You had me at EVIL DWARVES!!!!!! EDIT: Some other observations: 1. There's something very Wisconsin, no, Canadian about that lumberjack. And I mean that in a very good way. 2. Your review has just assured me that I must get at least three gangsters. That face will also come in handy with some pirates or something too. 3. Detective is perfect... we obviously knew he wasn't coming with a pipe, so after you concede that, I don't think he could look any better. 4. I love the Eskimo, but can't help but feel like the expression is just wrong for him. Wish he had more of a Native or Inuit look or something? All in all it's a much stronger series than I originally felt. I like how they confirmed Klaus's theory of making specific counterparts for existing figs, like the second clown, cave girl, and snowboarder figs. The zookeeper also goes perfect with the Adventurer, perhaps her niece or something (would set us up perfectly for a Tarzan fig in 6?) Great work, White Fang, as always...
  11. It's a hobby, man-- that means doing something you enjoy on your own time and on your own terms. Do whatever you want with it. Personally, not only do I not keep them in their boxes-- I don't even keep the boxes at all! And I RARELY build MOCs-- usually it's just the process of buying and building a set that I enjoy. There are no rules, excep the ones you keep for yourself! And the fact that you'll probably spend more money than you wanted to, haha!
  12. I'm actually quite impressed. Much more impressive than the QAR-- its beauty is understated and more classic. Last sail looks a bit weak, IMO, but otherwise I'm impressed. I'd actually consider it...
  13. Unfortunately, this is the closest I've come to ever seeing the BSB in person, let alone building and/or owning it myself. Sigh... dark ages. Unbelievable design, even with the less advanced building techniques of the era. Thanks for the stellar review.
  14. Actually just built it last night. Seems like they put an emphasis on playability over detail, which seems to never take place in the best Lego sets. Still, I was surprised at how big both the Marina and Harbour are once you've put them all together. I have no previous harbour sets so I definitely wanted to add this one, and I don't regret the purchase. The DSS is laughably bad, I'll certainly admit that.
  15. Anyone hear price points yet for 7879???
  16. Regarding that poster... errr, is it me, or is the Hulk not wearing pants??? As for the license... one of the biggest obstacles is that, for the most part, Disney hasn't exactly hit home runs with its tie-ins thus far. PoP was a flop and Toy Story sets can only be considered partial successes in terms of sales. There's nothing more telling on this subject matter than Shop-At-Home's current Sales & Deals pages, which is loaded with sets from both Toy Story and Prince of Persia. If anyone really wants a Marvel license deal, probably the best thing they could do is get out and start buying PotC sets like crazy...
  17. Saw this set out in the wild, and I must say, WOW! I blew this set off originally, but after holding the box in my hands all I can say is WOW!! Short of Exclusives, Modulars and/or UCS monsters, I'd have to say that this is THE BEST SET OF 2011, and bear in mind this is coming from an absolutely non-SciFi collector/builder. Incredible design by Stafford and just screams "PLAY WITH ME FOR HOURS AND HOURS!" Absolutely incredible set.
  18. I'd buy that book if the price was right. Love the idea of having them all in there just for reference. Looks like solid photography too.
  19. Is that confirmed? I'm already pretty heavy on construction, but never did get the garbage truck or the cement mixer. Hrmmmmmmm....
  20. Saw that list at Bricktuts also and didn't bother to post it, just because I highly doubt its accuracy. Almost the entire list is Town/City-centric, and none of the other Series were ever so homogenized in theme. We've always seen some variety, plus every series has had some sort of historical figure. This just seems more like clever speculation, although I certainly could be wrong.
  21. Fascinating stuff, and I think you're on to something. I have a hard time imagining a bright purple house in the middle of my city...
  22. I'm very curious about this set. Many of you-- Tiger, Klaus, others-- know me and my taste in sets from the various City threads, and the fact of the matter is that I do not own a train but very much want to integrate one into my burgeoning city layout. I like the idea of having an industrial sector, where the train might line up just behind the Harbour or something to that effect, but at the same rate I already own the Train Station and like the idea of a commuter train that would run through the city as well. And I will not commit to two for financial purposes. So which of the three would you recommend for a first time train builder: this set (3677), the Passenger Train (7938), or the Cargo Train (7939)?
  23. I can't really answer it, because i"m not a girl, but do girls, young or older, really need everything to be pink and purple for it to be appealing to them???? I think aesthetically speaking these sets will live or die by the color scheme. If they choose to ground them in reality and create just general town/city/contemporary structures and settings, this will translate seamlessly into the city line. On the other hand, if getting a restaurant means the entire thing is plastered with pink flowers and unicorns, I will absolutely pass...
  24. After walking past these sets for weeks now, I find myself thinking about them more and more, specifically this one. That civilian figure is absolutely PERFECT, and looks like the snooty and over-confident lawyer my town needs! As far as the AC elements, I love how it all hearkens back to those great 'flying saucer' 50's B-movies in a new and exciting way. I can definitely see myself grabbing this set and some of the smaller ones just to add the element of alien invasion to the realm of possibility. Thanks for the review, which certainly helped to sway my opinion to some degree!
  25. Must say, this seems like a rare case where a new SW fig isn't necessarily improved. That Darth Maul is an ugly little guy, and I hate the print on the face! He's got owl eyes, and it also looks like he's got a bad porn 'stache. Top it off (literally) with the horny pancake hat thing on his head, and consider me unimpressed. I'm not a PT guy but even if I was I'd be very upset with that figure, probably enough not to get the set. Love the Panaka figure though, very cool!
