I agree that the offset is a very good idea! Overall a clean, realistic design. I like it a lot.

I don't believe I have anything to add that hasn't already been said, but that's no reason not to say I love it. It's a great rendition of the original building and proves that you don't have to build exactly to 'minifig scale' (whatever that really is) to make recognisable architecture in a tabletown :)
  3. You've got some great buildings here, cimddwc. As others have said, the exterior design is really nice, both front and back, and we all know how hard it is to make interiors fit in such cramped spaces. Did you actually build that PI office in greytones? It's not a Photoshop trick? You know, the modular line started off with a hotel - there just wasn't an interior for it... :)
  4. Agree. That wiring is the real icing on the cake - it's a very, very nice engine. Love the SNOTwork, too. Well done!
  5. I saw this over at TBB earlier, and I have to say it's brilliantly done. That's not surprising, of course, coming from you, but those curves are excellent. Well done!
  6. I like a lot of your cars, but I find the Porsche the most interesting. I'm not all that fond of the final result (there's something a bit blocky about the front end, and the roof isn't working for me), but there are some very good ideas in there - like using that 33-slope front windscreen for a rear window and the 45-slope for the front. I can't believe I haven't thought of that before, it's just perfect and screams 'Porsche'. I'm going to fiddle around a bit with those ideas and see what I can come up with - if you don't mind :)
  7. Let me join the queue of people admiring that skip idea. You've captured the general chaos of a building site perfectly. Very well done!
  8. Took the words right out of my mouth! The exterior is a bit plain for my taste as well, but what's inside is just great. Very well done!
  9. Wow! A very good idea wonderfully executed. It manages to give the that feeling of a metropolis without being too imposing, which is very well done for something so tall. And the detailing is superb. I just love that low-perspective shot. Amazing!
  10. I voted for the Super Chief because a) I've got two of them, so that means I probably like them... and b) it was the first of the 10000 series of detailed, realistic engines. I really love all three, but I had to go for the Super Chief. It was also my first train apart from the Emerald Night.
  11. Nice MOCs - and delightfully detailed! Let me impress with my German skills :) For English speakers, I guess the easiest way to explain it is this: Lieb has the same 'ie' sound as in 'thief' - you'd probably spell it 'leab'. Herr is pronounced quite similar to 'hair'. So try Leabhair :)
  12. If you swap that cone for a red lever/control stick base (this) it'd be one plate shorter, and probably still look the part.
  13. Looks brilliant thus far, Ralph. I generally like the idea. It appears clear from your sketches which letter gave you the most trouble, and I must say that your solution for the K is very nice :)

    Modular Pub MOC

Wow, I have to say that this is a very nice modular - and for a first attempt it's stunning! It really fits between the two buildings from the Pet Shop set. The interior shows very much promise, and I like that floor hatch. I'm very much looking forward to what you'll be able to come up with in the future! (And I like the idea of the Pet Shop boy (...) going to grab a beer next door!)
  15. These are fantastic, Hoexbroe! Building detailed cars in that scale is a huge challenge, and managing to make them so instantly recognizable while still so small is a great achievement. I've been very interested in cars all my life, and it's fun to see so nice models. As somebody else already noted, the Capri almost looks like a die-cast. But still I think the 2CV is my favourite - you've captured its iconic shape perfectly.
  16. The best two sources for modular instructions online that I'm aware of, are Brick City Depot and BrickBuildersPro. They both sell instructions of great quality, and from time to time also offer complete sets for sale (although they'll cost you a great deal of money. As far as I know, none of these sellers offer LDD files, but parts lists will let you get the necessary parts from BrickLink. I love designing my own modulars, but from time to time a fellow MOCer makes a design available that is just so great that the temptation to have it on my own shelf is too much...
  17. Really nice - I like how clean and conservative it is. Lovely design! There's no single answer to that, 'we' do what 'we' think is best, and it varies from person to person. Some people are members of LUGs which make bulk orders from Lego, others buy sets for parts. I use BrickLink myself, and so do many others. In most cases it's cheaper than Pick-A-Brick and you can get any part you want.
  18. Yes! And it's just as funny now as it was when 'meyerc13' told us in this same thread 11 days ago: Never a bad idea to read a topic before posting :)
  19. It's there alright, in the Italian page on Lego, Cronistoria section. But as no sources are given, we'll have to assume the person who put it there is either a) somebody who knows something the rest of us don't or b) an Italian prankster... EDIT: As far as I can tell, via Google Translate, there's a lot of strange claims about 2011 as well. Airship and Coast Guard in September?
  20. Looking forward to the rest of this review - nice that somebody finally serves the community's urge :) Don't like the first poll question, though, which I don't think I can answer. What is a great deal for somebody is a very bad one for others, with the differences in pricing worldwide. I'd happily call this good value for money if I could pay US$149.99 or even GB£119.99 (around US$200) for it here in Norway - but as I've already moaned about in that other thread, it's listed for NOK 1599 here (almost US$290 / GB£180). Yes, this is a wealthy country, but these differences are horrendous... There, I'm done. Now I'll shut up and stop complaining, and be happy that I can pick it up in the UK instead :)
  21. Oooh! I've been on a few of these téléphériques in Chamonix and this one looks so real from a distance that it's unbelievable. Especially that low angle shot - if you just had a quick glance at that you could mistake it for the real deal. Let me also mention that curved railing and grille-tiled walkway, with the very nice use of SNOT 1x4x1 fences for stairs - just like the real thing - the lovely detailed toilets and of course that superb snowmobile. And just such a little thing as that "alp moustache" on the man behind the counter... it's lovely!
  22. It appears I'm quite bad with numbers, and you're right, of course. I measured the Maersk box again and it's 38x48x9, not 48x58x9. There's a considerable difference there :)
  23. I completely agree. Of the new Harbour sets this is the one I like the most, but again I feel it's a missed opportunity. I would also have liked a) a raised dock and b) a brick-built ship. Apart from that, I'm wondering why the cargo bays on the ship can only be accessed by detaching the plate above them. What happened to the old-fashioned solution with hinged access? And one final thing, which is just plain stupid: The sides of the ship's deckhouse (or whatever it's called) are all open. What's the deal with that? How's that supposed to work at sea? Sorry, Lego. I'll skip this one. But you're still churning out enough interesting sets for me to spend my money on :)
  24. Hands-down the best-looking modular building I have ever seen. This is so excellent that I'm just going to look at it a couple of times and then let it slip away into some dark dusty corner of my mind. I can simply not accept that somebody is so much more talented than I am I could start commenting on the details, but there are just so many of them. And that's another "problem": I would never have the patience to put so much time and effort into a single MOC. I'm awestruck. It's overall amazing.
  25. I just measured the Maersk box, and it's exactly the same. Nice to know the dimensions when I'm bringing it home from London in three weeks' time :)
