This is the current livery for the long distance trains used in Norway, the NSB Class 73: Yeah, the roof is silver, but most of the train is blue, although I'll admit it's a darker tone than Lego's regular blue. But the intention of this post was probably not to have people dig up pictures of real-life blue trains... Lego did a blue parts pack for the My Own Train steam engines, so that counts for something. Still, I'd like trains in more colours, and darker colours like the dark green used for the Emerald Night would be nice. Imagine a steam train in dark blue - or dark red! EDIT: A gruesome spelling error.

I spotted this on Brickshelf earlier today, and it's really nice. Would compliment my Lime Light quite nicely :) But here's a friendly tip for you: You're making your post so much more user friendly if you deeplink your pictures instead of just posting the link. You really should consider that.

To make something like this round off a corner in a modular layout is an excellent idea that I'd never have come up with. It really reminds me of the setting in the 'UP' movie by Pixar, where the city has grown around an old house with inhabitants that don't want to sell their home and move because they know the house will just be demolished and replaced with something big and modern. I think I might just nick this idea. Brilliant!

This might be a little off-topic, as this isn't a pre-production design, but does anybody have any info on this unreleased set apart from it never being released and being found in a British retailer catalogue from 1996? Does anybody know why it wasn't released?

Fantastic! I wasn't completely sold on it after having seen the first images you put in this post, but the interior that's visible in your Flickr is nothing short of spectacular, in colour, detailing, and style. Top notch. And that van is lovely!

I really like this. I think the garage would probably make a nice break in a line of modulars - after all, there's normally a couple of 'holes' in a whole block of buildings - and you've managed to fit quite a lot of interior details into the relatively small space available in the building. As others have said, the vending machine and file shelf are very nice touches. And the blue and light bluish gray colours for the facade work very well. All in all, a great job!

The fountain is a wonderful detail, and the parking meter is very, very nice. I also really like the number 7 football jersey hanging from the line. I guess somebody's a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo :)

Nice! I see a Fire Brigade, a double Grand Emporium and some Creator houses, plus some very nice other buildings. Well done! Could it be an idea to turn the grille tiles so that the train doesn't appear to be crossing the rails at 90 degrees?

Nice build! Love the BNSF colour scheme, and it suits the crane just as well as it suits the engine. What I think is the single most intriguing detail in your post, though, is this: A dozen? That house of yours sure does hold a lot of treasures...

Wow - talk about going out of your way to create a gift! Very nice, and a very good idea.

Correct. I just got mine and I'd definitely say that for an AFOL, it's not worth buying. The book is purely for kids, the models aren't really that good and you could easily get the parts cheaper off BrickLink. That's my opinion, anyway, for what it's worth.

I've commented on nearly all the MOCs you've posted today, because they're all really, really good. On this one I have to compliment you again on your stickers, they look fabulous and really add something to the building. This is small, but very well made. If I were to pick on one thing you could work on, it would be your excessive use of exclamation points!!!! It's really unnecessary and comes across as a bit immature. You should do something about that - apart from that your posts - and MOCs - are top notch!

I agree, it's very, very nice and I don't find it controversial at all - not when the stickering is done as professionally as this. The whole build is great, with the statue and all - but my favourite detail is still those lovely birch trees. While I've seen more realistic-looking trees, these are spot on regarding the white and black patchwork. Great job!

Nice and modern - exactly something I would have guessed an architect would create for his diorama. And like others have said, the use of Technic bricks is a really neat touch that adds something special to it. I really like the clean design of this, I might have to build something similar :)

MOC - Modular Post Office | Flower Shop |Artist's Studio
L@go replied to frogstudio's topic in LEGO Town
Beautiful. And I love the idea of linking it to Market Street like that. The colours you've chosen are very nice, and the detailing is perfect. The Segway is a nice touch indeed. Very well done! How about a custom mail sticker on the scooter? -
This is a very good idea, and very well executed - and it could well have been a set from the mid-nineties. It's compact and quite realistic. Your MOCs keep a very high standard!
-
This could have been a promotional set from around '94 or '95. Love the look of it, that van is very nice, and your custom stickers are top notch.

We do. It's available via Amazon - I ordered mine from the UK Amazon shop, and you can order yours here. It's even discounted now - it wasn't when I ordered it.

That's a really nice way to achieve a cobblestone look, hadn't thought of that! And as you say, it's a technique filled MOC - there's a lot to learn here. Thanks for sharing!

MOC: Townhouse Trio - Butcher, Barber, and Laundromat
L@go replied to sonicstarlight's topic in LEGO Town
These buildings are just superbly done. Just my kind of modulars, with lovely exteriors in great color combinations and detailed interiors packed with neat solutions. Even the backs of the buildings have wonderful details. I really thought you were going to have a hard time living up to the standard you set with your previous builds - but I was wrong. I repeat: Superb, inside and out. The most inspiring modular MOC I've seen in here in quite a while. And of course they look wonderful mixed with the official 16-wide buildings. -
So I guess something came out of this post that was useful not just to me. Nice! I know - I've already tried it out and ordered the pieces necessary for the (slight) modification. Going to have to flip the battery box onto its side, though, as the connector on top of it makes it just that tiny bit too tall. Great design, by the way - like all the others I've bought from you. If I'm not mistaken I now own four trains of your design.

...which is quite a lot more expensive than the reversing switch!

I've been reading through this topic and caught myself looking for a 'like' button like the one on Facebook... there are many very likeable posts here :) Quite a few of my friends know about my Lego hobby. Only a couple know the full extent of the crazy money I've spent over the last three years after coming out of the Dark Age, and I'll probably keep it that way. I have a few of the Architecture sets and the Lunar Lander on display in my living room, but the real conversation starter is the giant Eiffel Tower located in a corner. Most people will just look at it in awe :) I'm not really trying to keep my hobby a secret, but I'm never going to be too open about it, either. I have a quite high-profile job, which means quite a few people know who I am, and I'd like to be known for what I do professionally rather than for my hobby. I went to London about a month ago and spent a fortune at the Lego Store at Westfield, where I met only friendly and smiling employees. I'm guessing they're quite used to adult collectors. There was a guy there who was buying something for his son, and he casually remarked that he wasn't really buying the set only for his son. I said, 'well, at least you've got a kid. I have no excuse...' upon which he started asking me if I had any recommendations in case he should decide to buy something bigger just for himself. It's the first time I've given a grown-up advice on Lego :)

I have an issue with sticker quality. Quoting a post that I made a while ago in another thread, regarding set 3366 Satellite Launch Pad: This is the sticker in question (this picture is from the review and the sticker is freshly applied so it hasn't started to peel yet): I don't know if this is a problem in other sets as well, but it's a STICKER, for crying out loud. It's designed to do one thing: Stick.

Thank you so much for your clarifying answers. I've just placed an order for a reversing switch - I'm going with that option because I can get it relatively cheap without having to go for used pieces, and I can still use all the pieces that I've already got. As the tender is eight wide it's not built on a regular train base, so it's no problem that the connectors make the motors a tiny bit taller. Again, thanks! I really look forward to see this thing go around a train loop all by itself, it's beautiful - and HUGE. Have a look here for Anthony Sava's own pictures. I chose to go all-out and have built the loco, the tender and all three cars.
