  1. I've been extending my own train and making good progress. I've made the engine and tender slightly bigger to better handle the extra load I made the tree bigger. Also added a mini figures placeholder until I get santa I used a train plate and tan windows for the passenger car. I also made the caboose bigger Also the holed 1x1 round plates are great for making the gold poles sturdy
  2. Is there something stopping the drive wheels from moving? Does it move without load? It sounds like what's happening is that the PF cable might be inhibiting the movement of the big red wheels. Or, you have the big red wheels put on wrong, and they are pressed against something, making them unable to turn. If the train moves without the other cars, the problem is likely with the car that turns the tree.
  3. What happens? Does it just roll in place? Does it power on at all? You may have done it improperly.
  4. I mean the rubber rings around the wheels
  5. You could easily add plates with holes to the bottom to turn them into train plates, but I'm not sure why you would want to. Actual train plates are lighter, would hold together better, and be more sturdy
  6. Oh. Well my advice is put the train motor, batteries, and ir receiver all in the tender
  7. Honestly, if all you want is an Emerald Night turned into a holiday train, just take an emerald night, replace the dark green with green, and add a few little holiday frills here and there, and probably some red wheels. When I first started my project, I intended on something slightly larger than the official holiday train simply because the official one wasn't heavy enough to use the PF train motor. Eventually it evolved into me wanting to use the L motor, but I couldn't get a hold of one so I was stuck with an XL motor. My 4 wide boiler quickly turned into a 5 wide, and then a 6 wide, to make room for power functions. I almost had it going well as a 5 wide, but my gearing was poor and the train couldn't pull a full load, thus I had to rework the whole thing. Before I knew it the boiler was the same size as that on the emerald night. Also, trying to fit an XL motor in there made it extremely difficult to have the cab of the train in the same spot as the wheels. Plus, the very large size of the train now, though still smaller than the emerald night, looks way too large for the christmas train carriages with the train alone being longer than both of them combined. I've reworked the caboose to be larger, and I'm almost done with a large passenger car that is a hybrid between the passenger car in the original train set, and several other larger christmas themed train cars. I am very satisfied with the final gearing though. It's slightly faster than the emerald night, and it pulls 7 emerald night coaches with no issue. So if you want to build something yourself, here are some tips: -If you want a smaller train, put everything into the tender. You'll have an easier time with the steam engine itself, and you don't have to work around power functions. -if you want to use an L or XL motor, test out the gearing first with a load. I was soooo disappointed when I thought I had a finished train, only to find it couldn't pull anything. -Use a cad program, like bricklink's stud.io. I probably would have done this, but I really just wanted to use spare parts I had laying around. -If you use a PF train motor, replace the O-rings with ones from an auto part store. This makes a HUGE difference. A while ago I turned the santa fe train and 5 cars into a power function train, and the wheels couldn't get grip with the stock O rings. By simply replacing the O rings, the santa fe train with a single PF train motor could pull all 5 cars (santa fe cars are really heavy), 4 emerald night carriages, 2 metroliner club cars, 3 metroliner regular cars, and a my own train caboose with only some issue, mainly going around half circles.
  8. Speaking of a recoloured "festive" emerald night, I'm almost done making this....
  9. Sad to say, but I think it's more of a city scape with roads and a car and a tunnel. Another thing I noticed, is that the power functions parts for powering a train are getting difficult to come by. Lego.com seems to be having IR receiver, battery box, and train motor on backorder at the moment.
  10. I bought the instructions! So I motorized my christmas train, but it seems to have trouble pulling anything beyond what the set comes with. Is there a good way to weigh down the motor?
  11. I don't want to derail (lol) the review, but has anyone had issues with the train actually being able to pull rolling stock beyond what is included? I tired adding more cars to the train but the wheels from the motor just slip in place. I assume it's due to the lack of weight on top of the train motor. Anyone have a good idea for a fix?
  12. What part combo makes the bride's dress?
  13. Huh, that's a pretty neat and interesting fact!
  14. Market street is such an odd thing. Like I think those tan pieces at the back of the buildings are meant to be windows? Why not just put windows there? I understand the central staircase though is so that you can not only do four floors in any order, but also turn each floor any way you wish. I also don't understand the weird side market thing. Like, what's the point of the giant gates if there is a big gaping walkway right next to them? I have trouble picturing exactly what it's supposed to be.
  15. Speaking of market street, I recently got it and found out that the "market" section looks amazing next to the Parisian Restaurant. I want to turn the roof of it into an extended seating/garden area. The balcony level of the Parisian restaurant matches almost perfectly. Also, the top level drives me nuts. in almost every instance, that balcony thing is pressed against a building. I want to rebuild it and make the balcony on the left overlooking the market, and the window on the back, leaving the right wall bare
  16. This is my take on the space police's flagship. It has heavy firepower, detachable ships, and an armored ground vehicle. In the center is a control center. Full Album: http://imgur.com/a/6wuWr
  17. The 10210 Imperial Flagship was my first ever pirate ship. The 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty was my second. The bounty was pathetic next to the flagship, so I improved upon it. It's now the same size as the flagship, and has: 8 canons anchor Upper deck Larger captain cabin treasure room I hope you enjoy. 18. The PF train motor is surprisingly tough at pulling heavy loads. I added powerfunctions to a santa fe super cheif, and with new O-rings the super cheif had no problems pulling: All 5 santa fe cars 4 emerald night cars 2 metroliner club cars Of course the XL motor in the emerald night can pull much more than this.
  19. I buy replacement O-rings from an automotive store, remove the O-ring on the drive wheels, and replace them with the automotive ones. They are only slightly thicker, but have a huge amount of traction
  20. Hi everyone, I'm glad I found this photo discussion! I hope to take some professional photos of my lego pirate ships soon. The main thing I'm concerned for is a good backdrop. I'm not sure if I want to go with a solid white or not. Is there any other good options? I don't mind making something, though I'd want it to be foldable or easy to disassemble. Also any recommendation on positioning of the ships? Like say I have two large pirate ships that look like they are having a battle.
  21. I haven't done much with trains since the release of the emerald night. Has much new come out in the way of sets since then? Is power functions overtaking 9volt?
  22. Couldn't you use reverse slopping peices to build more of a bracket, so that the weight of the track pushes against the wall more, making it more stable? Or perhaps some technic crossarms that go down diagonally? Basically I mean make something so the track goes like this: At the bottom, you could stick another bracket and screw. _____________ ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||||/ ||||||||||||||||/ |||||||||||||/ ||||||||||/ ||||||/
  23. I recently bought the fire brigade, pet shop, and grand emporium and I love them. I really wish I had gotten cafe corner and such back in the day. I'm really kicking myself because I did buy a cafe corner, and give it to a friend for christmas. anyways, any recommendations for building my own versions of cafe corner, marketstreet, and green grocer? I don't want to pay the insane ebay/bricklink prices for these. any color swaps i could do on bricklink that still look really good?
  24. How old are you? Also, i'm not seeing a cannon yet...
  25. The hole drilling looks easiest...
