I'd like to see that. Absolutely!

Hope this helps, had to modify it slightly to make it fit. Sadly the engine is not really designed to take the leds themselves, but there is more than enough space to hide all the PF stuff. Also, fitted with two PF motors, the 10219 has a lot of pulling power: .

Update! Update! Update! I finally made a passable cargo terminal, nothing fancy. Right next to the train depot, it had to fit where space was avaiable: Find a 4.5v switch, highly usable for such situations: And of course, some new cargo trains to go with it: A second 7939 series makes it look good: of course, that's nothing compared to a 10219 pulling some blue containers (of course with ZueriHB'sche modification's for cargo railway pods):

Only over the curved part, there's no slowdown over the straights.
-
Good question. As I drive my trains with relative low speed settings (seldom exceeding speed setting 4) and because of additional motors and / or lights at the other end of the train, I have cables trough the train and this adds additional friction and may slow 'em down more. An other reason would be to many different curves on switch tracks. Those slow trains down, especially if there are more than two switches set to curved. (Now how to translate this German bit: "Die Züge werden stark verlangsamt wenn sie über mehrere Weichen in Ablenkung traversieren").

I ordered additional sets and built one motorized car and two middle cars out of it. Quite handy for some aditional motors and platform elements. Lucky guy having a loving wife also loving Lego trains. ^^ Some new pictures, I have no excuse for the bad picture quality, except for those with a 3D picture viewer may take a look at this ZIP-Archive. (3DS owner may apply too)

Really nice, But isn't the BR103 a Co'Co'? OK, it is hard to model in LEGO. Anyway, looks great and sexy. Also, are these remodeled emerald night wagons? Can't wait for more pictures.

That's enlighten train track, let's not talk about it here, opinions vary. Back to topic: On one side, it's sad TLC doesn't offer curves anymore, not for us AFOL, we don't have problems getting curves, most of our own unused stock, but for parents and kids, which don't know about bricklink and just wan't to expand the kid's layout. Ok, you can do curves with flex-track, but you need for packs of straight and flex track to get a circle.

And I'm a railroad engineer (US term), here in Europe, you may call it a traction system manager, or for everyone else, I drive trains.

Thanks, I run up to 4 trains, if alone, for more trains, I need more players. EDIT: , not POV, but following a Train around my layout.
-
I promised, I shall deliver. A simplified schematic. Click for larger version. All sections are longer and any sidings or passing loops are long enough for 4-6 car trains. My plan won't help you in that regard, I may try to whip something up on paper, or better, make a POV-video Maybe after I got the new 2011 trains, I'll consider it. Got my passenger trains for CHF 149.- each, still have lot's of left-over parts, also from train stations and emerald nights. Swiss German, Most of my work is done in Luzern, Zug and Zürich, so I'll borrow naming conventions from there. Most preferred by me would be Names from the Stadtbahn Zug like Hünenberg Chämleten, Cham Alpenblick, Baar Lindenpark, Zug Postplatz ect. But my GF's is more of a Zürich Hinterland fan, as her line of work calls for S16 services and prefers Herliberg-Feldmeilen, Neuhausen, Effretikon or Andelfingen. Scale is not everything, but everything at the same scale, that will look better (except your using forced perspective, kinda hard in a expansive layout).

Working on my Track Layout (Directional Lights)
ZueriHB replied to Bernie56's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is a classical problem. But one easy way would be to test run a train on your layout and adding a loop around where you think your train has been swapped. -
Thanks, lots of straight track is helpfull. But alas is space. Thank you, if you need any spare engines, let me know ^^ Not that big a house, but a weekend allowance to use the entire floor may help you already. Hardwood has it's pro and cons. The track doesn't stay put, hat to tape it down in intervals, else it skips around. Thanks for your suggestion, but as 3D LEGO said later, I'm in Switzerland, so more swiss sounding names would be more proper. I stopped one entire run of the single loop (yes, single), it's about 4 minutes at speed setting 3 nonstop, about 5:30 with stops and regulated speed. I'll try to get a plan made of the entire track. Na, won't go with Basel, Biel, Bern, more with something like Hünenberg Zythuus and Hünenberg Chämleten ect. More fitting. Even got a '30min' tact going with three EMUs. And no BVB Express, and also no Baselland Verkehrsbetriebe neither. For all interessted, just uploaded my two failures in video taking: Part 1 Part 2 and an overview for Eurobricks members And some more pictures with less details and more view:

If you run an Emerald Night, and you said you do, keep a gap of 1 stud between sleepers and platform, so the Minifigs have to mind the gap. If you wan't a wider platform than 6, and are using PF, you could widen the gap between the rails with some flexible train track. With 6 flex-pieces at either end, you can widen the gap to 12 studs and get a platform of up to 10 studs wide. The straight track pieces align with a 8 stud difference.

It's just all suggestions, but something easily extended would be nice. Easily, without soldering. And some may have some 12v or 9v cables laying around (I don't really). For an example: May layout is spread widely, and some switches belonging to the same station are up to 2 meters apart, and up to 15 switches to account for.

I moved, so everything new is after post 56. A Fair warning before you continue. This is a basic floor layout, no track side buildings, details, roads, cities whatsoever. Just plain track. You may have seen some pictures over at the Your layout, table or floor?-thread. Also a back from January 2011.I have one / two newer Videos, but some accidents happened during filming, and I'll need some volunteers to get a good video going. More Videos in my channel. I'll add new material as it uploads. Or just point your browser over here and look for yourself ^^ Let's start at the train depot, it also has a little station with an elevated walkway, that currently ends in JarJar's demise. Two coupled 7938 EMU (stock length) and a DPZ are currently parked inside the depot. Next to the building, two more 7938 of the 5-car variety are parked alongside. Later in the day, all trains are somewhere, but in the Depot, and working, two 7938 series cross at the main station (I need good names for my stations, seriously) Looks like rush hour, even trusty 4558 is hauling passengers today. A 4556-b just drove trough, commonly called 'the wasp' or 'CargoRailway'. If we follow the wasps projected drive path, we'll land at anther station, right after the main entrance and the wardrobe. One Platform is just long enough for a small 3-car 7938 EMU. After that, theres not much to see anymore, it just loops around. But oh! Ah 7939 loco pulls a little cargo. So let's pull all the way back and get a look where the wasp came from. A loading terminal for 4559 series trains. Just arriving there is a S-series DPZ It just passed a nostalgic 10194 'Emerald Night' hauling a 3-Car extra train. That's it for now. Here a small overview, more pictures at the album link at the top. Update 1: And some more pictures with less details and more view: Update 2: I finally made a passable cargo terminal, nothing fancy. Right next to the train depot, it had to fit where space was avaiable: Find a 4.5v switch, highly usable for such situations: And of course, some new cargo trains to go with it: A second 7939 series makes it look good: of course, that's nothing compared to a 10219 pulling some blue containers (of course with ZueriHB'sche modification's for cargo railway pods): End of Post

Both 2010 train sets where sold out in many shops in Switzerland, also most of the time track packs where sold out too. So it seems LEGO reacts, but that's kinda fast to respond, isn't there a lead time of about 1-2 years for new sets? So they had this in the pipeline all along and Marketing pushed for release ^^ I will buy this definitely. My layout lacks some good track maintenance ^^
-
Standard as in a plug / socket combination which already exists, I don't care if it's a 12v compatible cable or those little plugs model railroader use. Will it be possible to reverse the polarity, to configure it more to the needs of the layout? (i.e. Press Up for switching to the track further apart from the user.)

I'm quite interested in those micromotors, would buy them for that price. A group-buy would be great. But If you could post some pictures of the inside, it'll be easier to judge if it's worth it. But it would be great if there would be a more standard way of connecting them, or / and a wireless solution (Not necessarily compatible with the PF IR system.

Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)
ZueriHB replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
As I just started with Lego Trains last year, and missed all the great 9V stuff around the '00s, it'll be convenient to be able to buy this, also is Maersk more justified than BNSF or Santa Fe on a European layout.- 379 replies

Instructions To Build ALL 30 Models Of The Lego Hobby Train (10183)

I could do this for you with the real thing. Sx? You meen DPZ or 450 series. I did go with 6 wide as a) all my trains are 6 wide, b) it's easier for lower than boogie plate waggons c) it wouldn't fit clearance on my track. Yeah, should change that with the re-design. Now I need a metric ton of clear angled windows to replace the blue tinted ones. Do that. Do That. And thanks for your feedback.
