WIP: Achille and Guerrière, French Frigates of 28 guns
LegoDad42 replied to BrickPerfection's topic in Pirate MOCs
Tremendous looking ship. The riggings and the deck details really make it a stand out model and I love the figurehead. Great looking all around! I'm a fan! -
Yeah, you're right Forresto. If you add it up, it's not a bad deal for $40bucks...just like you broke it down... -$10 of coupons(they expire so use them quickly) -$21 for 6 issues (they're $3.50 each) -$21-$30 worth of mini-models -$57 child's ticket one day admission to Legoland (they put in a coupon for this every issue I got but it expires within a month or two of getting the ticket and you must purchase of course at least one adult ticket($67)to get the free child's admission). Keep's me guilt free when I renew...

The Brickmaster Subscription is really aimed more towards kids (or big kids like me... ). I got it for my son Dec. '09 and besides the mini-models (Got a Republic Attack Gunship to start the subscription plus 2 $5.00 coupons for S@H), in the mag. you get a couple of comic strips, puzzles, games, a poster, sometimes 3-D glasses (for the Atlantis comic strip), alternate build instructions (which are fun), a kid's pass to LEGOLand, etc. It's more geared for like 6 - 12 yrs. old I'd say. They'll announce at times, build contest for the kids and a photo section for the young ones to show off their creations. So far with our first 6-issue subscription, we got a mini Star Wars/Clone Wars Republic Attack Gunship (excellent and beefy model), Atlantis Neptune Micro-sub(another great little model that's also quite beefy), Creator 4x4 Dynamo (excellent looking vehicle and with a little MoDing can be turned into an Agent's 4x4), a Creator Alligator(weakest model we got, not that great)...and am waiting on the next 2 before I renew, which would be an Imperial Shuttle and a Prince of Persia set that you get a Dastan mini-fig! I'm sure if you're just into the mini-models, you can find them online, get the instructions online and forego the magazine (unless you have kid's then it'll be fun for them).

Just added 7 more pics to the LEGO Store Queens New York set. I included pics today of the Monthly Mini-Build Watermelon Slice and a couple of pics of the Exclusive Spaceman Magnet Mini-Fig. It's an excellent figure on a real cool printed tile, magnet base. Here's the link to the set (scroll down to the last 7 pics which are the new ones)... Watermelon Slice and BONUS Spaceman Magnet set!

Grand Opening ROCKEFELLER LEGO STORE NYC!
LegoDad42 replied to LegoDad42's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Even though the Rockefeller shop has a huge Pick A Brick Wall. I believe it doesn't have the entire stock you'd see online at LEGO S@H. But, there's just something about being at the store, picking bricks off the PaB Wall and being about to check out the models in person. Also cool about these shops is that there's this screen, where you hold up any LEGO box, face front to the screen and then tilt the box and you see the model fully built (holographically) on top of the box your holding and it has animation. Little mini-figs running around and doing task. The funniest one is a City set which has the city lamp post repair truck. The little minifig goes up to change the light and the light falls and crashes and he has to go back and get another one. Just too funny and a lot of fun to see these little minifigs running around the actually box you're holding. I know...I geek out on this stuff... -
Grand Opening ROCKEFELLER LEGO STORE NYC!
LegoDad42 replied to LegoDad42's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My pleasure R8! It was a fun time. Had a convention-like feel that opening day. I'm headed to the R2D2 build for the Queens Store Grand Opening next weekend. It's not outdoors but it should be a great time. See if you can make it to that one. -
This is my Eurobricks Member #...not bad. I was worried I'd be a Bellville...

Fantomas and Mr. Bungle. Also really getting BACK into old Metallica!

I'll go out on a limb here and say a much improved Magma Mech... LOVE IT! The split level cockpits is a nice unique look. Love the legs and feet too.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 Poll
LegoDad42 replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm definitely looking forward to the Spartan. Looks fantastic and would be fun to do a 300(Battle of Thermopylae) MOC. Next in order of preferance and design (for me) are the Pharoah (that headgear and snake staff are tremendous), Dracula (never had a Horror mini-fig before), the Witch (ditto), the Explorer (fun to add to MOC's), the Mime (love the extra heads), and the Karate Dude (pretty much for that micro gold statuette). Note...I think in the poll here they put down a listing for a Soldier figure? I think that's supposed to be a highway/ motorcycle cop. He has handcuffs, those 'CHiP's' shades and I think he has another accessory, a ticket(?) But I could be wrong. -
In LEGO Brickmaster magazines they have alternate builds often. A couple I remember were an alternate build 'Deep Sea Explorer' made from parts from Typhoon Turbo Sub, and another was 'Blast Roller' made from Titanium Command Rig. I gotta' go through my collection to sight more, but the alternate builds are out there.

YES...finally NYC has it's own flagship LEGO Store at Rockefeller Center in the heart of Manhattan. A great location accross from the ice-skating rink and adorned by all the nations flags and accented by a long row of fountains. Tremendous spot for a great store! ***CHECK OUT THE FLICR' LINK FOR OVER 130 FUN PICS!.... LEGO Rockefeller GRAND OPENING NYC! Got to the 8am opening...line was about 100 people deep when I got there but moved very quickly(only waited about a half hour to get in). Up and down the line were LEGO volunteers handing out LEGO Club magazines/comics and signing up people for the VIP cards on the spot. You also got a VIP business card to go online to take a survey and you'd get an additional 10 points added to your VIP Points. Once inside you see beautiful sculptures and mosaics to die for It's a split-level store, first floor has the most impressive Pick A Brick you'll ever see! From one of the workers there, they said it's the largest Pick A Brick Wall in any of the LEGO Stores. It is a sight! The second level is like a loft area with another impressive model of Rockefeller Center with all kinds of mini-figs (even Darth Vader) running around Manhattan (see my link for all the fun pics). Now outside, great fun was to be had. You have about a couple dozen tables set up in two areas around the Master Builders (who are working on a 15' LEGO Big Apple accross from the ice-rink, using about a 4' scale model of the Big Apple as a guide). The first area you're given a standard green base plate (the large one), you find a clear working area on one of the tables (which was filled with trays of just green 2x4 bricks...and constantly replenished) and you can go to town on anything you can think of. Then once you're done, LEGO Volunteers incorporate your model into a large LEGO Topiary surrounding the fountains in the plaza. It was a sight to see so many kids with there parents building all kinds of creations. One that stood out to me was a Twin Towers model done by a father and son. Now then once you got done with that, you could move onto another set of tables under tents to help the Master Builders build large brick sections for the LEGO Big Apple. Same kinda' set up...no baseplate but you get a work space and trays and trays of red 2x4 bricks, 1x8's and 2x8's and a single page of instructions to follow and build as many of these large red blocks as you like. They have volunteers again to double check your work to see if you followed the instructions and then you can bring you blocks over to the Master Builders to incorporate into the large model. A FANTASTIC day! Thanks to 'notenoughbricks' Brian (President of the LongIslandLUGs) for hanging out with me and kid for like 6 hours...we loaded up on Pick A Bricks, snagged 10 mini-figs (got lucky with these...8 unique and only 2 duplicates...2xNinja, 2xCaveman, Robin Hood, Spaceman, Clown, Skater Boy, Wrestler, and Crash Test Dummy), got an exclusive T-Shirt and 2 Rockefeller LEGO Duplo blocks(when you spend over $35.00us), talked models, MoC's, building LEGO topiary, building Big Apple blocks and even took a break for lunch...just a great time with 'notenoughbricks'!Thanks so much man! Do yourselves a favor if you're in the NYC area and head on down there! Two more days (June 30th and July 1st) and get in on the builds and exclusive stuff from the store. You and your kids will love it! LEGO ROCK!

Great looking fighter...and it transforms too!!! Love it! Color scheme and design look excellent. Someone mentioned if it was an official set, they'd buy it...put me down for one. LEGO should look into this more for the general market. They do a mecha on the Atlantis line that turns into a vehicle, but this slick style of design is what's needed out there to jazz things up.
-
Looks good to me! A fun looking MoC. And you put it together so quickly too. Inspires me to get some MoC's finished that are in various stages of development.I'm procrastinating. Love to see more of what you come up with.

Any and all Battle Packs I think are must gets since the prices are usually around $10. Recently picked up that Kingdom's Wizard set for $5.00. You get a neat Wizard figure, a little dragon, a nice scroll on a stand, etc. There's a companion Jester set for the same price. Right now though, people should check out Walmart. I just picked up a couple of sets on sale (about 10 - 20% off). And they still have some Indiana Jones sets available too. I always fear on missing out on exclusive or limited edition kits. Once they go, they're usually so expensive on the aftermarket.

Thanks R8...yeah, they opened about a week ago (I believe the 17th) just to get prepped, ready and to hype the Grand Ceremony July 9th-11th. By the way...love your MoC's!

Has TLG ever borrowed ideas from AFOLs?
LegoDad42 replied to Superkalle's topic in General LEGO Discussion
One of the LEGO Master Builders, Adam on this YouTube LEGO TV Video explains(briefly) the inspirations and build of the Ultimate Collector's Imperial Shuttle. He took, with permission, some build technique's/features of Polish builder (and his friend apparently)DMAC. Here's the link to the YouTube Video... And here's another link to DMAC's BrickShelf page with details of the Imperial Shuttle Adam and TLG got ideas from... dmac's Imperial Shuttle You can compare and contrast. One thing to note... dmac's incorporating the landing gear into his model is much better than the separate piece used in the official model. But Adam's model IMHO, is more refined overall. -
New LEGO Store just opened up at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst, Queens New York. Had a great day with my son at the store (we went the 3rd day of it's opening) and got to see some wonderful models and diorama's built by the LongIsland LUG folk headed up by native New Yorker 'notenoughbricks' (Brian). Everyone at the store was so pleasant, helpful and just plain fun...and a special thanks to one of the store managers, Joe for making it such a special day for me and my son with some fun builds, especially the custome mini-figs, LEGO games and just a great run-down of the infamous Pick-A-Brick Wall! Great way to start a Father's Day weekend. I've posted over 50 pics of the store and the diorama's over at Flickr! Here' the link... LEGO Store Queens New York! Also of note is that there will be a Grand Opening Ceremony and Build July 9th - July 11th in which kid's can help a LEGO Master Builder with an 8ft(?)Tall R2D2! If you're in the area...come on down to that! Should be a fun time... Needless to say, it was my first time at an official LEGO store so my son and I were so stoked!!!

Thanks for the review! Good pics throughout and yes, I agree, it's a nice touch to have all the faces unique. Great Battle Pack!

For any fellow New Yorkers, LEGO store opening end of June I believe (June 29th?) at Rockefeller Center, NYC (they're building a 15' tall LEGO red apple-the Big Apple natch') and then later in the year one at the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst, Queens, NY (they haven't announced an official date yet for the Queens shop). I'm hoping to take lot's of pics at both. Brick NYC!!! Word!
