That's fantastic! Great use of clips and modified plates.

Rush, it was great!

It may have been if it hadn't been falling apart. The rear end was in a bad way and so was the power steering. Spock, I had the same thing happen to one of the muffler bolts on an EP3 I owned for several years. That should not be happening to cars so new!

So I'm planning on a big purchase while double VIP points are in effect and am really leaning towards the haunted house and a modular town kit. The cinema interests me because I'm a bit of a movie nut and a huge car nut- the car that comes with it would be a big bonus, that thing is sweet! Any reason to go with another modular town kit, and are there any other exceptional kits in that size/price range that I might consider over the haunted house? I like some variety, but I could do two modular town kits if there's another aside from the cinema that's really exceptional.

I don't think the Freeman cut was terribly shocking. That situation has been volatile for more than a year now. What's up with those Browns?

TLG has always had fantastic customer service whenever I've dealt with them...I'd rather just put the money straight in their pocket. But there is no excuse for an item arriving like that from anyone. I ship things fairly regularly and packing items in a way that eliminates damage from the typical rough handling UPS/FedEx/USPS/etc. gives them is not a difficult thing to do. Whenever I've ordered from Amazon, I've always just received the item loose in the box- not cool in my opinion.

I'm also impressed by the pitted wall, I don't think I've seen something like that before. Nice work!

What is the rationale behind miniscale building?
ep3_lol replied to Wardancer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Building anything in Lego, no matter the size, is an activity ridden with compromise if you are trying to be as strict as possible with scale. As a car guy who's also into die-cast models, I see this all the time- Lego cars look terrible, no matter the scale, because many of their lines and dimensions cannot possibly be replicated with the bricks we have. The same is more or less true for buildings as well, but to a less severe degree as we have bricks that can better replicate architectural shapes. So, I think we all have to accept a compromise there, and different people prefer to compromise at different levels. Another factor could simply be the physical properties of building smaller- less bricks, less space, less time. I'd also consider that some of us like our minifigs, while others don't much care for them and thus aren't limited to building things for them. -
I've come to accept stickers, but I will not buy another set where they hold bricks together. I thought those days were gone. Nice kit otherwise.

7 series 11 minifigs. Rock climber, yeti, chemist, welder, and THREE CONSTABLES, giving me a total of 4 I'm starting to understand why people feel the bags. I'm pretty happy with the chemist and welder though.

I missed the previous Pirate series, so I'll pick this one up. but you guys have some good points, it could be better.

I find that paying sales tax is worth it when I consider that I don't have to wait, I can inspect the product myself before purchase- I keep all the boxes-, and the fact that the actual Lego store is just plain fun to visit. I think it set me back another $15 in NC for the Orthanc kit. Considering the condition of the boxes at the store, it was probably worth it just to get a box that's in presentable shape, as they all had worn corners. Who knows what an extra step of shipping packed by someone in an Amazon warehouse could do to the box...

What sort of programming do you do? I do C (and whatever else might be needed) for a big-box retailer, it's good work. Also, Periphery is an incredible band.

I'm a RedLetterMedia fan and thought The People vs. George Lucas was a decent documentary, so I'm a bit biased, but I just don't have any faith in George at all anymore. I don't see how he could help. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the industry that both are more competent and like Star Wars more than he does.

That's the truth, otherwise I'd have Helms Deep as well

Some nice rides in here! I've gone through several cars in the past couple of years, but right now I've got a 2002 Boxster, 1992 Integra, and a 1986 Volvo that I'm about to get rid of. In the past I've had a 13B FB RX-7, EP3 Civic Si (hence my username), and an '89 Accord coupe.

Either Jackie Brown or The Conjuring, can't remember which. Both are superb.

I didn't see any posts about warped platforms and plates in this thread. Nearly every kit that I've bought in the past year has had all of its large platforms either moderately or severely warped. The worst two were Mines of Moria and the Orc Forge. I even requested new plates from TLG to replace the Orc Forge ones- they sent me replacements with no hassle or charge, but the ones they sent were just as bad! The warping was very light by comparison in the Orthanc I purchased, but still noticeable. The saving grace has been that, once the kit is assembled, the structure usually flattens out the platform and the warp isn't noticeable.

How about those Chiefs now? Falcons fan here, I guess I get to find out this weekend if my team has just been off to a slow start or if that whole "looks good on paper" thing really is useless. If this is the only thing the season brings us, though, I think that 31 out of 32 fans can call it a good year!

I picked up Wizard Battle about a month ago not knowing that Orthanc was a kit. When I found out about Orthanc, I had to have it as well, so now I've got a bit of redundancy but I suppose that's ok Orthanc is by far the biggest kit I've ever bought, and it took me the longest to build too- more than a week! Life got in the way a good bit though, and I think drawing the build out that long just made me appreciate it more. I'm not crazy about how they did the Ent, but the tower itself is top notch.

Hi all, I've been in and out of Lego for pretty much my entire life so I think it's about time I got involved with a community somewhere! I recently purchased the Orthanc kit and found this site by looking up information about it- there is a particularly impressive rear wall for the tower posted here that grabbed my attention. I live in North Carolina, USA and have recently been able to really start adding to my collection after graduating college in 2011. I'm looking to stay up-to-date on Lego news and improve my building skills, as that's something I really need to work on. I also collect die-cast cars and play with real cars, so naturally I have another obscenely expensive hobby in the Lego world. Anyway, thanks to the staff here for keeping up what looks to be a fantastic site! I'm looking forward to getting involved.
