One of the Brickvention Melbourne Team (Lisa) just finished a Pink/Purple/White Friends-style Ball Factory! it's pretty crazy cool! Might see if she can upload a decent video (it's only on our facebook page so far) the mixel eyeballs on the main back-forth section are pretty funny to watch go around..

Bike with Freewheel
RohanBeckett replied to uefchen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
easy.. you build a bigger bike! ;) -
Read this :) http://bramlambrecht...stress-bf06.pdf - page 7-8 shows some illegal technic stuff, and page 29 (Jamie Berand is one of the lead Lego Designers...)

hmm.. I'll have to go check some of my other BB's... I have 9398, and (apart from the PF set that I got this in), the only other recent set I bought with an AA Battery box is 42025, and it had the oldstyle one Oops.. will edit my post.. the OLD one has the hook/clip, the new one is bare!

I got a new PF Box set about 3 weeks ago, and noticed the change in Battery box.. The softer switch is very much welcomed, after all these years.. But did you notice this small change? OLD: NEW: NEW ON TOP, OLD ON BOTTOM: I won't take credit for noticing it originally - Isogawa posted it on his facebook feed a little while ago

[GBC] Irreversible Screw
RohanBeckett replied to torso's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
and what made you choose those colours!! got a real late '80's early 90's fluro feel to it! is the reversing manually done? would be interesting to have a mechanism that runs it one direction for 30 seconds or so, then reverses it... It's definitely a big change from your last GBC (which I have built, and REALLY love watching!) - this one is so different.. solid, and massive! -
Yes.. I know that you use an extension cable for the first initial connection.. but what if you want to run 3 GBC modules at the end of the extension lead? (stacked PF connectors) you can't use the rotate trick, as you'll 'fix' the wrong-turning motor.. and reverse all the others! I still believe it's better to just decide on an initial input-rotation standard (eg: clockwise) for all GBC's... and ensure that they are all designed to run at full power... life is easier then!

on the reversing-fixing thing... I need to find a mechanism/gearbox, that would detect a jam.. and run in reverse for a second or so.. and then forward again.. Would help SO many temperamental GBC's that often jam a ball here and there... Can't do that with power functions motors... you need a pole reversing switch-cable. and honestly.. it's usually not that hard to put another gear somewhere in the drive-train, which eliminates the need for reversing switches...

after attending a couple of large GBC exhibits.. I now think I prefer that all modules run with the same polarity/direction/speed. Makes life SO much easier, when you can just plug things in and go... without the need for a reversing switch, or speed controller Especially if you have to swap out a module, or move it somewhere else on a layout I also try to design my modules, so the motor can always be switched out easy - locked in axle, and long pins that are locked in place Akiyuki doesn't stick to Akiyuki's designs!! he changes his modules all the time! :)

I posted on this in the Ball Factory Thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=107736&st=125#entry2241781 in *most* GBC's these work perfectly well.. they are very close in size, diameter, and weight to a Lego ball. It'd have to be a pretty special GBC that couldn't tolerate these passing through...

Hook question
RohanBeckett replied to Dafgek81's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
use bricksafe.com - no silly waiting period, like with brickshelf.. and way better features, like multiple resolution links you can pick from. -
Since that's what *I* played with.. my son pretty much started straight into technic.. (after a year or so of Duplo) he loved clicking the pins together.. and messing with axles and wheels.. and eventually at age 4 or so.. was able to build most of this set: I'd find all the parts for each step, and he'd do the building... He honestly did around 90% of this truck himself, with my guidance - occasionally pointing out orientation of a part, or assembly, which wasn't clear on the instructions.. He's now almost 6, and of course, plays with regular lego.. but it's rare to see a construction of his that doesn't have at least a couple of axles, and gears...

it's great... my ZigZag has sat on the backburner for a while - as it was always frustrating - it could run for 10mins without problems, then the next, it'd jam on every 2nd ball And unlike other modules, when this one jammed, it's a pain to fix... Hopefully I'll get a chance to modify yours, to at least include the indexer Oh.. and I made this the other day - could be used as a nice output ramp:

while I don't have this set, I do have it's smaller brother from a few years ago.. with anything that drives 2 linear actuators - ensure that the driving cogs are on the correct sides (directly behind the linear actuator shaft) - double check the instructions. You'll be able to install them 'opposite' - and if you do, they'll just fight against each other, and not work at all. Usually the instructions have warnings on those pages, telling you to be careful how you place the gears! :) I just downloaded the PDF - check around step 90/91... is the bevel gear, in substep 5, correct, on your model, vs the instructions?
-
this is one of my favourites too.. the simplicity of the steps up, and the cleverness/timing of the output ramp

Golden Egg Maker
RohanBeckett replied to uefchen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
awesome! I couldn't see clearly which one was the golden one? I or II? -
I think you are being a little harsh on yourself! You are plenty talented! (in other areas!) Just think WWAD (What would Akiyuki Do?) I think a compressor in the instructions is fine - those that are ultra purist can just omit it... everyone else, who is happy to build 'close enough' will use it
