Ever found a piece that doesn't belong in a set?
antp replied to Sir Walter Maugham's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The glass or the frame? What kind of dot? Did you make a photo? Isn't that just the injection point? -
This article linked on Brickset is interesting: http://brickset.com/news/article/?ID=6285 The small cup would be more interesting than the large one, in the end...

That's why they included a crane in the set! I do not like the use of the big glass doors for a bus: - they are too high (6 bricks in height rather than 5) - such full glass door is not realistic for a bus: they either have half-width glass doors (and even then not always completely glass), or full width opening (or usually sliding) door with a frame (not so much glass) like the train door of that new red bus, hence why I prefer the new bus.

Indeed, that's already much better. I do not know which wheels would be a better replacement though: the bigger ones are too big.

TLG never produced a Lego System roof tile, but they produced a Modulex one, as I posted earlier ;)
-
The "tile for roof" makes me think to this Modulex part: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=Mx1511 (also exists as 1x2 and 1x3 with different angle then), but I do not think such part existed in "normal" Lego. That's what I suggested, but not just disassembled: it was cut/broken to get this result, I suppose.

Nice collection :) But that Horizon Express really deserve a second set to look more complete ;)

Between 1 and 2 kg (1420g according to BL) would make 43 € + around 10 or 12 € for the insurance, so around AU$70 indeed. And that's the post price, the seller might include additional packaging costs.

Where to source bulk parts for water technique
antp replied to UrbanErwin's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Indeed there were blue 1x1 round in Köln when I went there mid-March, but they were mixed with trans-clear plates so it takes a lot of time if you want to fill a cup with blues only -

Yes, the PAB wall: you can fill a lot of these in the cups so I guess it can be cheaper than Bricklink (like all small parts). -
My problem is where to find a drugstore, as these seem to have disappeared here :D (there are pharmacies and supermarkets, I didn't check the first one but didn't found that in second one).
-
When I was kid (80s) I had both, but at first I prefered the swappable all-plastic wheels, I found them looking better and the color choice was better (white/grey/yellow instead of red/white). Then when I discovered that after a few years of play these plastic wheels didn't attach very well anymore (plastic was worn out due to friction), I found that the metal ones weren't that bad in the end... :) And it is easier to swap tyres (between large & small) on the metal ones.

Sure, it is another part, but I thought that Zeya maybe confused the two parts since the question contained "I think I need just the red wheel hubs from this assembly" and I do not see how it could be used apart in a set, unlike the one I suggested which could be used as pulley.
-
That one is not supposed to come apart, but a slightly different one exists apart : http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3464

Nice exotic review :D Funny to see "Carrefour" written like that :D It is originally a French word, not carre + four ;) (even if originally it probably comes from "carre" somehow)

TLC builds higher profits as sales of new products soar

It is a decoration & packaging plant that they shut down in Denmark. In a longer article they were saying that along with that shutdown, they were going to invest in the molding in the main Denmark plant to maintain a similar amount of jobs in Billund (and possibly increase in the next years). edit: from http://cphpost.dk/business/lego-cutting-380-positions-billund -
One possible origin for the traffic sign is the French "Majokit" make: http://i87.servimg.c...44/dscn2936.jpg Though that I do not remember if that sign existed (here on the pic there is a similar one, but for the end of priority road, i.e. with a black line across it) But the sign could also be from something else similar: it does not seem to have a bevelled border like the Majokit signs.

Is the other short edge of these plates broken? Because that plate really looks like the top of that hinge: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3149c01 - notch in the visible short edge as seen here on the right - hole like the old type seen here on the right http://www.bricklink.com/TL/2949.jpg

I think it is new (at least it looks like new). Some time ago I bought sets containing "random" bricks, http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=4518-1 + another I think There were in these many unusual colors, cf http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/4518-1?withpics=yes I thought maybe I got that part from a set like that. But it is maybe just a miscolored blue brick from one of the several basic bricks set that I got.
-
I do not see why posting a link to another forum would be a problem ;) About de-yellowing bricks there is a topic on EB too: http://www.eurobrick...?showtopic=7167 Vanish/Oxyclean + Peroxide seems indeed to be the good way for that. I've already read that polish can be used to remove printings from parts, but I didn't test it for scratched bricks; thanks Konrad for the tip. For transparent parts the system is different though: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76744

Since some time I have a blue brick from an unknown shade of blue. As I could not find which color it is, I just guess it is a mis-colored normal blue brick. But the difference is much bigger than the usual mis-colored colors. Just to be sure, I post this here. I made pics with two different cameras, it is not easy to get these different colors shades right actually... From left to right on the top pic : sand blue // maersk blue // medium blue // the mysterious blue // regular blue // a mis-colored blue that I picked randomly when I needed a regular blue // dark blue (and reverse on the bottom pic) The one to identify is then in the middle.
-
Last year I made a text with some of the most yellowed parts that I had, with some Vanish Oxi Action (the small bright pink bucket with powder) in water, it works quite well : the whitest bricks were not treated, they are just there for reference. I guess I should add peroxide for better results but I do not know where to find that...

Is there a lot of manual work in these Lego factories anyway? Isn't most of the automatised? Factories put in China for cheap workforce are those who require much manual work. The gain in price in China is maybe smaller for TLG than for other kind of factories. They may have chosen China over other Asian countries to avoid importation taxes there.
