  1. I think it is ugly but somehow I expect it to be a very interesting building experience. I am way more interested on this than any other 2019 set.
  2. You want them to adventure past cars and machinery when they are still trying to get proper steering and suspension
  3. Wow, very enlightening! I'll need to consider if a small CNC and Acetal (POM) or even aluminium are better options. 3d printing just looked easier... You gave me a lot to think about, thanks.
  4. Nice, thank you for the link. Regarding using power tools to create parts, I find it too laborious and too dependent on skills I surely lack. 3dPrinting looks relatively easy and opens the door to creating parts not possible with traditional methods, hence my interest.
  5. That does not necessarily make PUp any good, people is still hunting down those old Lego RC motors so the same might happen with PF for quite a while. TLG may have ended PF production, but that isn't the end of PF. I hope some third party will take this as an opportunity to offer some nice motors. Detachable cables so you can use either connector would be a win-win.
  6. I've seen many of you design and print your own parts sometimes at home and sometimes using a third party service like Shapeways. I'm more intrigued about making parts at home, not structural but mechanical ones, and more specifically suspension ones. The basic Idea would turn around getting steel springs and o-rings from eBay and 3d printing the rest. Obviously the point is getting something closer to proper damping using some sort of fluid. So what would be the recommended material given the specific use case? Nylon, PLA, ABS? I am thinking on using some silicone oil so I guess it will be safe for any material. Would steel rods be required or patience and lots of polishing would be enough to get a good seal? Any recommended 3d printer for this kind of use?
  7. Isn't 42099 the way to go for anyone starting from scratch?
  8. I always missed a line of related sets all at the same scale.
  9. Someone said TLG will release a dumb battery box -no RC- for PUp motors, I hope they will also release adapter cables for PF. I have no hope for PF.
  10. Do you expect adoption of this set to reach critical mass of contest level? It is not cheap and I think there is some hesitation regarding PUp... it may take some time if ever....
  11. Does the PUp app the ability to detect and report a stall or rpm?
  12. Now that the AA battery holder isn't an integral part of the hub they can make Lipo batteries that fit in the hub replacing the AA battery holder, so in that regard is an improvement.
  13. And that is the problem... All the features introduced with PUp where already a mindstorms thing. So now there is less distinction between both. And I can't agree about the conector. There were ways. Kind of like USB 3.2 (yeah the naming schema for USB is a mess too) is to this day compatible with previous versions 20 years older. That third parties use a mobile is ok, because they are third parties, optional, most Lego users won't be aware of its existence at all. I don't see how PowerUp positions itself reparding mindstorms. How it does in relation to the Powered Up Hub that can use the remote.etc The problem perhaps isn't the strategy but the execution. The app isn't ready for primer time. The full line of products isn't ready. There is not clear documentation of what any of the existent parts does and doesn't and how does it fit in the product stack. It feels rushed, and for a company the size (and quality) of TLG that isn't acceptable.
  14. So best set ever for adding a 2 speed gear box... the software isn't ready for that yet right?
  15. I hope you are right and they get their act together because there is no clear signal of what they intend to do.
  16. We had mindstorms for complexity and PF for simplicity, it was that easy just lacking RF instead of IR. If they retire PF a simply plug and play system will be a thing of the past. I am having a hard time understanding what is TLG strategy for the future, but by now I don't really like what I see. The naming schema of all together is a mess, and the lack of backwards compatibility makes the whole system a dubious investment. I don't like this mobile dependency at all for a toy period. There are many reasons why it is a bad idea if it isn't a specific set but suddenly the whole Lego thing that requires a mobile. The irony is many parents consider Lego a good toy that keeps their children away from the omnipresence of electronics and internet. Not anymore.
  17. At S@H under the Powered Up theme there are the Hub and the Move Hub, both studded so... trains I guess? There is a remote control but also the mention of an app. I guess the remote connects directly to those hubs without a mobile, but Is that remote usable with this set? Also there is a Simple linear medium motor and a Linear medium motor. Is the only difference being studless and studded? How are those studded hubs different from the one in this set functions wise? The WeDo hub looks slightly different than the one in Powered Up, is it the same? No word on PF adapters yet? I don't know... this looks to be a mess to me.
  18. It would be nice to be able to enable a "No warranties" mode in the app to bypass the motor protections. Kind of like overclocking CPUs and GPUs..
  19. The dependency on a mobile device Is a hassle in my opinion. Nothing easier than picking a remote and go, specially for the younger. I really want a true RF system, not some bluetooth variation. Guess in the end I'll need to craft it myself.
  20. To be fair reversed gears on 42099 would make for a better match against 9398
  21. Well that explains the lack of power. it's meant to be more playful (faster) and not so much a crawler. That also explains why the motors did stall so easily. So there is some hope for C+, but still it's not in the same league that BuWizz power wise, right?
  22. So what invasive permissions is the app asking for if any?
  23. Well kids these days want to be youtubers and this video maybe makes sense to that kind of audience. For me not at all, perhaps I'm too old. I enjoy the simplicity of PF too, no mobile, no app, no crap. I can still use the old 4.5v motors after 40 years. I wonder if that C+ or whatever -I lost track of the many new systems- will work 40 years from now.
  24. Oh well nothing good comes out of facebook anyways...
