Porsche vs Bugatti crash test
aol000xw replied to Hefe's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I saw this a few days ago at some thread here.... But watching it again... It almost looks like a slot track with the Porsche running on it.... Lego Technic Slot Racing on 1:8 Scale, now that would be something.... well with non Lego branded motors anyways. -
It may be wrong but autism is sometimes colloquially used to describe something that has nothing to do with it, like isolation, depression, anxiety, alienation etc. anything that breaks social interaction. In that regard, wrong word, but known symptoms of social media/electronic devices abuse or misuse. So yeah I don't see Lego forcing screen use as a positive.

Technic 2020 Set Discussion

I somehow expect a LaFerrari -
I see on this conversation the same kind of speculation that floats around licensing, many guesses and opinions but very little facts, There are safe harbors on IP laws on every country and you can use a brand name as long as you follow the rules. There is some degree of variation from country to country, but you can mention model and brand when you want to commercialize something that is compatible o designed for a product. It is not the same "Lego MYTHING" that ""MYTHING compatible with LEGO" or "MYTHING for Lego". Anyone can take a look at the guidelines book for selling in Amazon for example and will find rules depicting exactly this type cases. No need to invent things or choke children to make a point, it is way easier. Of course that does not prevent any rights holder from abusing the system and taking your items down even if you did nothing wrong. Or even someone who isn't the rights holder from doing so, as the burden of proof falls over the infringing party.
-
Well there is fair use you know... Just stating that you make something compatible with X does not make that an infringement. Wording is important however and a disclaimer stating that it is not a Lego product not endorsed by Lego and that Lego is a Trademark property of TLG etc may help. The typical legalese crap.

Pneumatics aren't really good holding a boom. Perhaps for the outriggers... -
Being a bit salty and exaggerated I'll say this marks the birth of LEGO as a service. You don't get to use it unless TLG explicitly allows you to do so.

By the way, what is debatable in the first place is the need of a release date. Yeah great for marketing... I guess, worse for everything else.

Technic 2020 Set Discussion

All these years after 8880 I perceived some kind of resistance that makes very hard for them to take a design direction that better reflects real mechanisms. For example, there have been lots of hubs after 8880 and most if not all of them are worse in reflecting how real cars work. Not having yet a complete collection of gears from the smallest suitable size to the biggest with cross/pin hole/ clutch is a bit baffling at this point. This is Technic after all, those parts aren't specialized, could be used and reused in tons of sets. -
I really don't care as a customer who is responsible. It is not my job to know that. What I know is that a LEGO product does not work. It isn't an Amazon, Walmart or whatever retailer product , It is a Lego product.and I'll blame TLG. If TLG can't ensure retailers will comply then they should choose a different strategy as to not cause prejudice to their customers. In the end I see no reason for the App not to be available before the set is available at retailers. At the very least, they must ensure the customer will know the set won't work before the launch date. And I don't see that printed on the box, so yes it is TLG fault.
-
Oh is that kind of remark neccesary? Does it make you feel better? What I realize is they can ship after the software is available, not that complicated as last minute logistics mind you. Is TLG who is setting an embargo or launch date hence is TLG who is responsible to policy that. And I guess they can figure out someone will get the set before the date and will be pissed off if can't use it. The simply chose to make it so. I don't like their choice.
-
I don't need to know what the capricious dates for TLG launches are. If I go to a store find a set that I like, pay for it and surprise... can't use it, IT IS TLG fault. They can't control stores, ok, but they control shipping to stores and soft availability. Just don't make available something that is unusable. Isn't that hard to make the soft available before the hardware.

42110 - Land Rover Defender
aol000xw replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The color is ugly and the shape is true to the real model. -sadly- but there is much to like about this set. Waiting on reviews but I dare to say it is the kind of Technic I like. edit: Well perhaps the color isn't that ugly, just hope it isn't another dead color. The shape however... unless pictures don't do justice to it... the real model isn't a beauty either. -
Isn't the real thing slow but nimble? The tracks go kind of slow but the bucket can work at a decent speed if I remember correctly. On the Lego set it's quite the opposite, it moves at a surprising speed for its size but the LA's are painfully slow.

I don't believe even for a fraction of a second that TLG is making plant based plastics for anything good except their bottom line and I am wary of any such parts. I already have a ton of cables (old mindstorms) that are desintegrating and I am not happy at all about it. There is nothing green about making parts that self-destroy forcing you to buy new parts, but hey it's good for selling new parts. Those parts used of the CV joints are that kind of plastic that isn't that hard or rigid as regular bricks, and watching them getting easily damaged doesn't help a bit with my current lack of trust of recently manufactured parts. So blame design or manufacturing I just know that my 40 year old parts seem to be holding way better than many recent parts. And I lost count of the many reboots of Spiderman... ffs.
