So, unless those are prototypes as well, the birds wings wonβt use new pieces, except maybe the body of the wing itself. Gorzan is using a Stormer XL/Hulk torso plate! That better be titanium metallic and NOT dark bley.
-
You should totally post that in the LoC Action Figures topic. The prototypes are interesting and it's cool to finally get some sneak peeks at the bird wings. Yeah, Frost Beast's blade is identical to Cragger's. I knew they would've reused it on HF, it's a cool piece. I hope the hilt/spikes section is silver or titanium metallic and not white- it would make the piece way more versatile. Is it just me or Frost Beast's shells and sword are not regular tr. blue? They look a shade lighter compared to Stormer's and Evo's shells/visors.
-
Evil Hero mooks! They look easy to build too. Really curious about their background. So Frost Beast uses a blade (I liked the brief sword fighting scene vs Rocka), I wonder if it's a new mold or a tr. blue Rocka sword like the one(s) included in Stormer and Laval? As I said before, its (these Villains are pretty much beasts, so..) body reminds me of Toxic Reapa, but I'm not sure if his design is going to be reused..seems like the least pieces-heavy way to connect those 3M shells together, though. I think Frost Beast won't look so silly. I have Pyrox in front of me, and its head looks much more fierce and scary in set form. Bruizer looks silly no matter what, sorry. Seems like the animators got tired of using MTIS as back armour for the Heroes, they switched to Savage Planet paws now.

I don't know, wood in HF feels kind of out of place to me. But I tend to prefer the more "techy side" of sci-fi rather than its more organic and elemental sides, which is the reason I liked Ordeal of Fire more than Savage Planet and Breakout more than Brain Attack (so far). I can't deny wood can exist in HF, it just isn't to my liking (brown in general isn't to my liking, I guess that's part of the reason).

To quote DV on Iron Man, Breez "is boring. Good set, but boring". Her helmet is fantastic, but evetything else feels recycled, and not in a particularly clever way either. Her colours are incredibly dull- there are no contrast colours, asid e from the nonsensical brown bits, everything is either grey or green! Her weapon is too big, and frankly looks silly. The parts are great though. Aside from the obvious helmet/visor/new head combo, you get two transparent shells, two awesome silver Fire Villains blades which are unique to the set, a silver saw blade, a round shoulder pad and other useful parts.

What the heck did I just watch.

I think Rocka is the best of the three 9 Euro Winter Heroes, Breez is boring (hey, I have her so I can say it!), while Bulk has so many things wrong with him..and he's boring. Their Breakout versions were much sexier, and I consider them the definitive version of the characters. One thing that makes him a winner is that his transparent colour is in contrast with the rest of his colour scheme, instead of complimenting it (and this is why Breez and Bulk look so plain- man, I would have loved to see tr. red on Breez!). Rocka, if anything, has the problem that he's too similar to his Breakout form- same exact colour scheme (just different colour organization) and nearly the same helmet. He looks good, but the robot knight look he has had been pulled off by Breakout Rocka before, and better. So I think "should I buy him, or are the helmet and that gorgeous sword the only pieces I really want?" Jet Rocka is coming later in the year, and I'm 99% going to get it because that vehicle looks fantastic. I imagine pilot Rocka won't look too different than the Winter set- it's not that he's getting a new torso build like Pohatu from Rockoh T3, HF doesn't work like that. So, he looks good but I don't need the whole set. I'm skipping him, or, if I buy him, it's going to be for the parts (which are good. Hmmm...).

Well written review and amazing photos as usual, but I still find it hard to like this guy. Everytime I look at him, I think "He's pretty cool, he'd look a lot better with some mods". But a few seconds later I think: "There's much better stuff you can buy for 9 Euro! Is it really worth it?". And this is why I'm skipping him, Bruizer and Bulk. These sets just don't have the same "wow" factor of the Breakout line, which I still regard as the best action figure line Lego ever produced.

Yeah I agree, and it's annoying- he's a fire beast dammit. I home we get at least one set with a tr. orange head in Summer. Stormer and maybe Evo are already introducing the new head in tr. blue..I really like this guy, but I feel he looks pitiful for a 13 Euro set (as a 9 Euro set he'd be excellent). And his head, as I wrote a few days ago, looks more fitting for a Titan- it's just too huge. This is why I rebuilt him with longer limbs and using a large torso piece. He looks much more threatening now! My money is on Worriz, and maybe on Razar.

I wasn't a huge fan of the 3.0 Heroes, but I love your take on them (using blue on Stringer works suprisingly well, as much as I liked when his secondary colour was orange and then yellow). Bulk lives to his name, he looks powerful and strong. The colour scheme is well organized and the shell sizes you chose work well together. My only complaint is that his weapons feel a little plain if compared to Stringer and Nex. Stormer suffers the same problem. I used the 3.0 shells with clips in a old MOC of mine, they do indeed make for great knee pads. In general, I love those pieces- their smoothness, their stylish look...

To be honest, my "should we make a meme?" was a joke, just a a parody of "still a better story than Twilight". Doesn't change the fact Scarox is terrible, but there are worse sets to make fun of. But let's leave it at that, shall we. Onto the sets. Since Worriz wears dark red in his minifig, I hope we get some more dark red cladding- the 2.0 torso armour isn't really enough. Laval and Cragger are already sporting amazing pieces- these sets are potentially AWESOME part packs, at the very worst (I'd like to get Eris just because I like her, provided she is well designed). Chima Ultrabuilds are the only Summer sets we have no pics of, except that Laval and Cragger teaser. I wonder how much we'll have to wait..hopefully not Toy Fair.
-
Still a better set than Scarox (should we create a meme?). Unless you're joking, I take you didn't design anything for these sets.
-
@DraikNova: no problem at all. I'm curious about what they're going to do with Eris's body. Like the other Eagles, she has Light Royal Blue skin (I mean, parts of the body not covered in white feathers). They can't ignore it like Laval's gold (easily replaceable with gold..and that's what they did), unless they make her fully white..which would be kind of boring. My top solution would be a medium azure body cladding part, we badly need more azure...no Light Royal Blue HF pieces exist so a first one would be rather useless. And they better not use the wide shoulders torso for her. Just saying.

And I still think Bulk's helmet would have been great on a Villain.
-
That is Cragger. Crominus is the Crocodile King with gold headgear:

I'm lost. Just..how does the site work? Looks ugly, too.

Thanks for the pic! I only have Furno so I can't try it, but it looks great. I wonder if one of the other 4 are going to use Cragger's new blades, I quite like them. His weapon looks like a scaled (heh, sorry) up version of his minifigure weapon, and that new blade piece is used by all the bad guys.. so maybe Razar and Worriz are going to use it? Laval's weapon is an adequate representation of the Lion/Eagle sword, but I hope Eris gets her Eagle axe (I know it has a name like all the other weapons do, but I'm too lazy to check up now).

So, as I excepted, my order arrived today. Of course I already modded the sets. Breez is cool, though I feel her colour scheme is a bid..bland. Not enough contrast (no, silver and titanium metallic do not count) maybe she needs her red back! I like her weapons a lot more than I thought. I love the helmet! I made her arms longer like Breakout Breez and Breez 2.0, gave her 1.0 feet, replaced the dark green and brown pieces. Even without my mods, however, I appreciate how feminine she looks thanks to the new body plate and the use of 4M shells as lower legs. Pyrox is cool, but even with all the mods I made (mostly to make him bigger), his head is still too big. I feel it's wasted as a deluxe set and should have been used on a Titan. Along longer limbs, I put a black foot on his back and I turned his weapon into a polearm (I didn't find the rotating weapon, held like a gun, fitting for this guy). Now, Furno XL. Nice, proportionate figure, though I felt the shoulder attachment was too high. Now the Glatorian necks attach under the cape, a full module lower, and I like him more that way. I made his arms and legs a module shorter and I changed the colour of some pieces (from black to dark bley and vice versa). I added some back armour using two bones and a red 5M shell. Finally, I rebuilt his sword into something more simple and streamlined. Anyway, overall I like the set.

Nice work, Xeros! Seeing the villains aren't unique but come as armies makes me feel (even) less obligated to get them all, since it's not "One villain for each Hero" anymore. I already ordered Pyrox and I might get Ogrum, while I'll skip Scarox- it isn't even good as a parts pack IMO. I'm on the fence about Bruizer, I have a revamp idea but I'm not sure if it's worth spending 13 Euro for that, let alone for the parts (I don't need anymore titanium metallic or silver, for now). Dragon Bolt is as good as bought, likely the same for Frost Beast and Aquagon. As for the Heroes, I already ordered Furno XL and Breez, but I think I'll skip Bulk (I'll probably BL his helmet, the rest just feels..useless when you have Breakout Bulk) and Rocka (I'm getting Jet Rocka). I'll definitely buy all the Summer Hero sets.

@ Aanchir: I agree the Breakout shell isn't very organic, but I feel it's still valid as body armour, similar to Roman breast plates. From what I can gather, it looks like Worriz and the other wolves share the Lions' use of Savage Planet paws as hands. The birds are likely going to use one piece wings, it's the only way for them to remain in the same price range as the other 4 (13 or 15 Euro, I guess). I just realized constraction Cragger doesn't have the damaged left eye like minifig Cragger does. Ah well.

Legends of Chima - Which faction are you?

Eagles are winning! I didn't except them to be that popular. I always loved birds, and I'm very happy Lego is making some really great bird people -
Thanks to the renders Jouster posted, I realized Stormer is using the narrow shoulders torso, just like Stormer 2.0 did. That torso seems to be standard for Heroes and most Villains this wave (except Furno for obvious reasons), which is good since it was underused in 2011-2012 and thus quite rare. That said, I prefer Heroes to keep the torsos they got introduced with in 2011 (wide shoulders for characters like Evo and Surge, for instance), though I prefer some characters to use alternate torsos (wide shoulders for Stormer and Bulk, narrow shoulders for Breez and Stringer).
-
Good to know there's going to be a cheaper set that features Rawzom. Hopefully that'll make his price drop on BL. As for the voices, I excepted them to sound like they're in their 20s since that seems roughly the standard age for fairy tale/fantasy princes. That said, Laval's is pretty good but Cragger's is a bit too squeaky. For some reason I'm fearing the Ravens are getting comical high pitched voices- I hope I'm wrong..
-
Indeed, it's impossible since both the slugs and the helmets attach to the top hole. It's the reason the villain faces attach like Bionicle masks to begin with. I, however, wonder if the slugs can attach to that axle hole the visors have. Likely not, since the hole isn't deep enough.
-
So all those animals were living on Makuhero City's planet? Well, that explains how they got to HF and why the slugs were sent in that specfic planet. And I agree, Dragon Bolt is getting a wing flapping mechanism. Still better than Scarox's and Bruizer's features. Oh and I forgot, thanks a lot for the screenshots Zachattacx and Vynil.
