  1. I just counted 28 teeth on the black portion of the Mini Turntable, and 24 teeth on the Light Bluish Gray part of the large Technic Turntable. Therein lies the problem -- the diameter of the small black Mini Turntable is LARGER than the diameter of the interior gear of the large Technic Turntable.

  3. YOU WANT TO GO INSIDE I tried doing this with real parts just now, and pried the large Technic Turntable apart with the dull side of a butterknife. It does not work. The Mini Turntable's 99010 black gear cannot be inserted into either side of the large gray portion of the 48452cx1 Technic Turntable.

  5. STALLED TORQUE of Power Functions motors (from Philo's "LEGO 9V Technic Motors compared characteristics" webpage): L-Motor: 18 N.cm [Newton-centimeters] XL Motor: 40 N.cm 2 x L-Motors = 2 x 18 N.cm = 36 N.cm (less than the 40 N.cm of a Power Functions XL motor).
  6. I looked on this TechnicBRICKS article about "Details about the new Mini Turntable". You are asking whether the complete 99099 + 99010 Mini Technic Turntable will fit inside the 48452cx1 "Technic Turntable Large Type 2, Complete Assembly with Black Outside Gear Section": I went downstairs to check the fit with real parts, and NO they don't fit. The straight 3L Liftarm portions of the Mini Turntable cannot pass into the larger Turntable's central hole. Even if it did, the Mini Turntable's straight Liftarm portions could not rotate very far without hitting the larger Turntable's straight Liftarms.

  8. "Plumped" vs. "Non-Plumped" Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires on Lego 44772 Wheels. I added the picture above to my Flickr photoset. The "plumped" Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires (on the left) are set to the OUTERMOST of the two rims on the Lego 44772 wheel. The "non-plumped" Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires (on the right) are set to the INNERMOST of the two rims. These are the same tires on the same Lego wheels, but with two different methods of mounting them. The "plumped" version (with its greater surface area and protruding sidewalk lugs) may perform better in Rock Crawling, but the "non-plumped" version looks better. The Lego 44772 wheels have double rims: Big rubber tires like these can be STRETCHED and contorted to fit the wheels. The rubber is a lot softer (and more pliable) than the Lego tire rubber, so the fit is more "forgiving". Again, here are the "Plumped" vs. "Non-Plumped" versions:

Here is a 1.9"-I.D. tire ("Duratrax Tires On-Road w/Foam Inserts for Duratrax Mini Quake Wheels") with a directional tread pattern that should fit the Lego 44772 "Wheel 56mm D. x 34mm Technic Racing Medium". From this listing, the "SPECS: Inside diameter: 1.9" (48mm) / Width: 1.37" (35mm) / Outside diameter: 2.55" (65mm)": Another possibility is the Losi Drift-R Drift Compound Tire:
  10. Yes I think it's worth their cost, but there are plenty of RC-type 1.9"-I.D. tires that could work equally as well on Lego 44772 wheels. Those Ansmann tires that efferman used are not easily found in the USA, so I got the (taller) Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires instead. I cannot test their crawling abilities until the 9398 4x4 Crawler is released in the USA ~ July 23rd. Do a search for "RC 1.9 tires" on Google or eBay, and find a tread pattern & sidewall profile that you like.
  11. The set of Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires arrived today, so I mounted them on the standard Lego 44772 wheels (that come with the 9398 4x4 Crawler and the 8297 Off-Roader II sets). I do not yet own the 9398 set, so I used a pair of Lego 8297 Off-Roader IIs for side-by-side comparison. The Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires fit nice and TIGHT, and their 4.5" (114mm) height allows for greater ground clearance. There is no slippage of the tire when I tried to twist the wheel inside of it, and there is no need for tire glue. The Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires come with foam inserts to keep the sidewalls stiff. When one squeezes the tire, you can hear air hissing in and out of the foam. I was able to turn the 8297's front wheels all the way back and forth (lock to lock), without having the tires strike the fenders. Of course, the suspension travel will be compromised, but for low-speed crawling, the advantages of these large, sticky tires outweigh the drawbacks. My Flickr photoset I staged the largest Lego tires side-by-side for this comparison (click on the image to enlarge): Any RC-type 1.9"-I.D. (48mm Inside Diameter) tires should work on the common Lego 44772 wheels. Try it out and compare the "stock" 54120 balloon tires vs. a third-party tire like like the Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tire:

From your PF L-Motor table, it seems that AFOLs using Rechargeable batteries (7.2V total) or the PF Rechargeable Battery Box (7.4V output) may be sacrificing the greater "Mechanical Power" offered by new Alkaline batteries (9V total): VOLTAGE / MECHANICAL POWER 7.5 V / 1.38 Watts 9 V / 1.85 Watts (34% more) Watts = Volts x Amperes. The more VOLTS one has, the greater the WATTS ("the rate of energy conversion or transfer").
  13. @ efferman: I cannot tell whether your axle design has the SAME DIMENSIONS as the 9398 4x4 Crawler's axle (since I don't yet own that set). Is your axle interchangeable with the 9398 axle, but just snapping on the 92910 "Steering Ball" and attaching a few Technic pins? It seems that your axle is NOT AS HIGH as the 9398's axle. Less height --> greater ground clearance. Also, it seems that it used FEWER PARTS --> lighter weight --> better Crawler performance....
  14. @ daniele: I'm not sure what you mean by "t-rims", but 2.2 inches ~ 56mm (the nominal size of the Lego 44772 "Wheel 56mm D. x 34mm Technic Racing Medium" used in the 9398 4x4 Crawler and 8297 Off-Roader II sets). I have a 44772 wheel in my hands now, and the OUTSIDE DIAMETER of the wheel is 56mm. However, the INSIDE DIAMETER of standard Lego 54120 "Tire 94.8 x 44 R Balloon" measures only ~54mm (2.12"). A (nominal) 2.2" (56mm) I.D. tire MAY FIT TOO LOOSELY on a Lego 44772 tire. Those Ansmann 211000224 tires that efferman used have these dimensions: "Diameter is 108mm and the width is 40mm or 4,25"x1,45"- 1,9" ." The fit is TIGHT on the Lego 44772 wheels: So, you can take a chance and order some 2.2" (56mm) tires and see how they fit. I'm hoping that the Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires that I ordered will fit TIGHT on the same 44772 wheels, since they have dimensions "Outer Diameter: 4.5" (114mm), Width: 1.75" (45mm), Inner Diameter: 1.9" (48mm)":

I can see that your Technic Skunk crawler is benefitting from the lighter weight of the PF Rechargeable Battery Box (even though it only produces an Output Voltage of 7.4 Volts) AND those 3rd-party tires. Maybe the Skunk should try to climb that concrete pipe from the other direction (right-to-left)....

  17. @ Traktor: Did you see the second part of my (edited) post above? There is another eBay auction that could get you a 9398 set delivered to Norway NOW. That auction's terms say that the seller's deal is "Expected to close within 31-32 days after receipt of payment." So, perhaps it's not in stock yet. However, the price is good. I don't know if the Norwegian Shop.Lego.com will be offering the 9398 set soon, or whether you will have to wait many more weeks/months. At the bottom of that auction's webpage, the seller's e-mail ( rudolphsschatzkiste@freenet.de ) is listed. You could send him an e-mail (translated from Norwegian to German, using that online translation tool above). Ask him whether you could get the set soon. If you buy it soon, you'll be the first in line when he receives them!
  18. @ Philo: If you have time, could you create a new graph for the PF L-motor (similar to the one you made below for the PF M-motor)? I'm curious to see the difference in available Mechanical Power by using six 1.5V Alkaline batteries (9V) vs. six 1.2V rechargeable batteries (7.2V) for the new PF L-motor. There have been SOME recent videos of the new 9398 4x4 Crawler where the L-motors seem to be lacking power (possibly from using rechargeable batteries)....

  20. @ traktor: Recommend that you buy the 9398 set directly from the German Shop.Lego.com website -- it's IN STOCK now and there are no "markups" (profit by resellers). Plus, you can earn Lego VIP points. If The Lego Group's German store will not ship to Norway, you could consider this eBay auction which says it will ship "Worldwide". Using this online German-to-Norwegian translator tool, you could copy/paste the text from that auction to better understand what is being written there. In a German-to-English translation, that eBay auction says that there are 8 available now and 2 have been sold. "Location: German Neudorf, Germany. Shipping to: Worldwide."
