  1. On YouTube, Tailgunner088 has uploaded several Lego Pneumatic Engines (LPEs) operating on different numbers of cylinders. Lego Technic Compact V6 Pneumatic Engine: "This is the best compactness-to-torque ratio engine I could come up with. It doesn't revs high because there is only one valve per 3 cylinders, but instead, the torque is so huge there's no way to stop it with bare hands. It's going to power the LEGO DRIFT MACHINE. Stay tuned for first drifting video. What you can hear is not the sound of the engine itself, but a working air compressor": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBdcHv-VG6Y Lego Technic V4 Pneumatic Engine: "This engine is a compromise between torque and speed. Camshafts are especially designed for maximum valve opening and timing. It can rev quite well still generating enough torque to be almost impossible to stop it with bare hands": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OC7U5mtz5E
  2. I downloaded a Lego Valentine's Day 3D Heart attached LDD .lxf file is below) from Hispabrick: Lego_Valentine's_3D_Heart_(Hispabrick).lxf
  3. "Lego Abrams Crushes Car!" by Zachariah Macasaet:
  4. @ lirinco: What an ambitious project!
  5. It seems that The Lego Group has imposed unusually tight security around the release of the 9498 4x4 Crawler set. Here we are ~6 weeks from its release, and the toy wholesalers and retailers have been given a gag order:
  6. @ legotrader: Two problems with your suggestion: 1) Zachariah Macasaet (the MOC designer) would have to be the one to submit his Lego Technic M1A2 Abrams Tank to Lego CUUSOO. 2) TLG would reject a modern military tank in a flash, since "War Is Not Fun". The privately-owned Lego Group will not create sets about modern warfare. @ lockdownTF: I just ordered the orthodontist-type rubber bands for teeth braces from eBay. If you're a "Lego purist", there are rubber bands available on Bricklink but you want the smallest size possible. I view Rubber Bands as an "expendible" item (like batteries), so I don't care if they're genuine Lego or not.
  7. Here is a Flickr photo by Nick Brick; click on the image below to see full size:
  8. @ nicjasno: Thanks for sharing the Building Instructions for the Lego Unimog U400 Steering mod that came along with your above. Renders by Blakbird (from his Brickshelf gallery):
  9. If you can wait 1-1/2 months, the new Lego Power Functions Servo Motor (that will come with the 9398 4x4 Crawler set) give greater control than the crude x928cx1 "Hockey Spring" return-to-center steering method!
  10. I see your photo-sequence Building Instructions on your Brickshelf gallery.
  11. @ lockdownTF: Having built ZachariahM's other Lego Technic M1A2 Abrams Tank (version 2), I know that his suspension is an upsized version of this Christie Suspension setup. There is a Flickr video (made by Simon T James) that demonstrates a smaller version of what Zachariah Macasaet did. There's a second Flickr video that shows the suspension too. Look at the various pictures on the right side of this Flickr photo; just "upsize" the geometry to make a larger tank! Note the various rubber bands (uses for teeth braces) that provides the suspension "rebound". There are good explanations that accompany each Flickr picture:
  12. There are some good ideas (and opinions ) on the "Spray Painting Lego?" and "To Paint Or Not To Paint, That Is the Question" topics.
  13. Here are a few more pictures from Nannan Z.'s Flickr photostream:
  14. Motor Trend has this "First Drive" article on the 2013 Pagani Huayra car. jorgeopesi had a challenge to similate the many curves on this supercar!
  15. [bUMP] NOW Lego tank commander Zachariah Macasaet (ZachariahM) continues to refine his Lego Technic Abrams Tank. Here are two YouTube videos of his Abrams v3 (from MOCpages). Although the tank below has been painted (from the original black color), Lego Digital Designer (LDD) Building Instructions for the black version are available on this MOCpages entry. Not all parts are available in the Lego "Tan" color, but you can't have an Abrams running around in the desert in a black color.... "It is: -100% Lego -Fully functional -Highly detailed -Roughly 1:24 scale -and AWESOME!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY0fTV2wmlY
  16. From the Brickworld 2012 Flickr Group photo pool (photo by Nannan Z.):
  17. @ ZBLJ: As background, efferman did a "tire comparisation between Lego tires and the Ansmann 211000224 crawler tires":
  18. @ Conchas: Good info! With the links you provided, it should be possible to buy LARGE-DIAMETER Lego-compatible tires that are suitable for many BIG MOCs (not just Rock Crawlers). I narrowed the search on the TowerHobbies website to just "Tires 1.9" to see what 1.9" (48mm) RC tires could possibly fit on the common Lego 44772 wheels. There are some interesting tread patterns!
  19. Thanks for making your Building Instructions available! Blakbird posted several nice renderings, and the animations below, on his Brickshelf gallery. Jurgen posted these Tutorials on how to operate it on this Brickshelf gallery:
  20. [bUMP] Chy9702 posted this of his pneumatic "Long Bony Lego Technic Fingers -- My third attempt at a Lego Technic humanoid hand":
  21. Infrablue427 (Theo Vanderkooy) posted this of his Lego Technic Neutron "Version 2.0 of my first rock crawler ( ). Driven by 2 Power Functions XL motors and independent front and rear steering from 2 Power Functions M motors. This version is lighter and has a much lower centre of gravity.Pictures: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=504020 [with 7 BIG pictures] Lego Digital Designer (LDD) building "Instructions for the chassis (missing the ball joints and portal axle hubs, the red 20T gear is supposed to be a 24T gear): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/InfraBlue/NeutronV2/neutron2.0.lxf . Rebrickable: http://rebrickable.com/sets/TheoVanderkooy/neutron-v-20 ." The model was built by Quazar112.
  22. @ timslegos: Efferman bought his 3rd-party tires from ANSMANN Racing, which has many European distributors but none in the USA. RC4WD in the USA has many 1.9" (48 mm) diameter tires. There are some that are close to the "target" dimensions that Efferman used: 108mm outer diameter x 37mm width x 48mm inner diameter, or 4.25"x1.45" - 1.9" . The width of Lego 44772 Wheel = 34mm . I was thinking of getting two pairs of these Mickey Thompson 1.9 Baja MTZ Scale Tires for the upcoming 9398 4x4 Crawler set: "Product Specifications: OD: 4.19inch (106.5mm) Width: 1.44inch (37mm) Inner Diameter: 1.9" (48mm) Advanced X2 SS Compound (Super Soft & Super Sticky)"
  23. twinsen credits his idea to Sariel and Alban: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVHixBmwN6M
  24. You should consider SR 3D Builder:
  25. I have the 8297 Off Roader in my hands, and am measuring the 44772 Wheel + 54120 94.8 x 44 Balloon Tire. The Lego tire's inside diameter is ~54mm (2-1/8"). The 3rd-party tire that Efferman found has 108mm outer diameter x 37mm width x 48mm inner diameter, or 4.25"x1.45" - 1.9" . The width of Lego 44772 Wheel = 34mm. There is a useful RC "Scale Truck and Crawler Tires Comparison Chart" on MyRCBox.com . The next size larger than 48mm (1.9") inside diameter is 56mm (2.2") -- too large for the 44772 to use without slipping.
