  1. You can use Nuno2500's "Repair of the PF M-Motor" tutorial (with pictures) to try a repair. Change the translation from the original Portuguese "to" your native language as needed.
  2. The Windows "Snipping Tool" is an EASY way of displaying EXACTLY what one sees on an LDD screen. What good is a high-resolution LDD screenshot (from another computer), if you are limited by YOUR screen resolution? Why be concerned with HUGE screenshots if Eurobricks limits pictures to 800x600 pixels?
  3. In both Windows Vista and Windows 7, there is a program in the "Accessories" group that is called the "Snipping Tool". You can just draw a box around your LDD screen, and save the resulting "snipped" (cropped) image as a .JPG. To find the "Snipping Tool", go to the "Start" button on the lower-left corner of your computer screen, then select "All Programs", then the "Accessories" folder.
  4. The Lego 54120 tires that come with the Lego Technic 9398 4x4 Crawler set DO FIT on the silvery Lego 22969 "Power Puller" wheels, but the diameter of the 54120 tires DECREASE when you do this. You can see the bulging of the tires' sidewalls, which (in turn) reduces the tires' diameter. In the picture below, the stock Lego 44772 black wheel + Lego 54120 tire (which come with the 9398 set, and which are shown in the middle) demonstrate the normal diameter. The Lego 8110 Unimog's 92912 tire on the Lego 44772 wheel is shown at the extreme left. My Flickr photoset Since one wants to INCREASE the diameter of the 9398's tires (for greater ability to climb onto objects), this combination actually is detrimental. The only good thing about it is that the tire's CONTACT PATCH on the ground is larger, but not by much. 5. I LOVE the 9398 4x4 Crawler. Believe it or not, I don't own the Lego Unimog 8110 U400 set, because I was saving my money for other stuff....
  6. @ Wallace: Welcome to Eurobricks! I know that you are using the 9.5-studs-long (9.5L) Lego Technic Shock Absorbers, but you should be aware of the different "spring rates" in case you use other shock absorbers in the future. Below is a chart that shows the decreasing spring resistance (in grams) of standard shocks. I can't remember where I got it from on the internet. As you noted, yellow is the stiffest (at 1300 grams), Dark Grey is next at 600 grams, then Light Grey at 520 grams and and Dark Turquoise is the weakest at 430 grams. I wonder if placing a toothed 1/2 bushing on a Light Grey shock will make it more stiff than a Dark Grey shock or not.... For the RED 6.5L shock absorber, Bricklink lists Part 731c01 as "Technic, Shock Absorber 6.5L, Complete Assembly (Spring Undetermined)", so I don't know what spring strength it has. The Dark Turquoise 6.5L shock is 731c06, "Technic, Shock Absorber 6.5L, Complete Assembly (Soft Spring)", but apparently it is not as "soft" as the Light Grey shock. The 731c05 6.5L "Normal Spring" shock comes in the "Known Colors" of Dark Grey, Light Grey, and Red. See http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?q=technic+shock for all of the possibilities.
  7. @ cottonwood: It sounds like you are leaning towards buying the Lego Technic 8110 Unimog set. Get it for the simple reason that it has been out for a year, and will be discontinued BEFORE the new 9398 4x4 Crawler "flagship" will. You can always get the 9398 later....
  8. If you want to get some longer Pneumatic Tubing (Hose) in BULK, Conchas suggested (on this post) to consider the iLe9os ebay store's selection (on Page 3): http://stores.ebay.com/ile9os/_i.html?rt=nc&_sid=147259599&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=3 .
  9. I like the proportions of your dragster -- they look just like the ones I have recently seen at Spokane County Raceway about 5 miles from where I live. The details are spot-on. You could possibly increase the speed by changing the gear ratio on your "upside-down" Portal Axles, and by decreasing the weight by finding a pair of the old foam-type 3740 "Tires 24 x 43 Technic" mounted on 3739 "Wheels 24 x 43 Technic". They are about the same size as the Unimog-type tires/wheels that you used. However, you would have to figure out a way of mounting those wheels onto the Portal Axle hub....
  10. Yes, the RC4WD Hollowpoint Scale Comp 2.2 Tires DO fit the 8880 Lego Super Car's 2998 tires (shown above). I just fitted them onto my 8880-B Model. However, the Hollowpoint tires are a bit too wide for good looks, and still only fit well on the INNERMOST wheel flange. The minimal outer flange is really similar to the 22969 Lego Power Puller wheel's outer flange -- there's not much for the tire to hold onto. Recommend shopping for 2.2" (56mm Inside Diameter) RC-type tires that are thinner in width for the 2998 "Wheel 81.6 x 34 Six Spoke" (a ~34mm-wide tire would be ideal). My chart above only applied to the Lego Power Puller wheel compatibility of RC4WD-brand tires. Yes, the RC4WD Rock Creepers 1.9 Scale Tires FEELS LIKE the same soft, sticky "Advanced X3 Compound" as the Rok Lox 1.9 Comp Tires , although the webpage doesn't say so. They are really very good quality, and have nearly the same diameter as the Lego Technic 32298 tires and the Lego Unimog's 92912 tires.
  11. I got a set of Hollowpoint Scale Comp 2.2 Tires to test their fit on Lego 22969 "Wheels 62mm D. x 46mm Technic Racing Large (also known as "Power Puller" wheels). In the picture above, four Hollowpoint Scale Comp 2.2 Tires Mounted on Lego 22969 Power Puller Wheels, Featured on Lego 9398 4x4 Crawler Set. Stacked up on the left are pairs of: Lego 32298 Power Puller Tires; shiny Lego 22969 Power Puller wheels (suitable for RC-type 2.2"-I.D. tires having a width of ~2" (51mm)); and Lego 44772 wheels (suitable for RC-type 1.9"-I.D. tires having widths of 37mm to 48mm). My Flickr photoset Below, you can see (left to right) the Plumped" Lego Power Puller Tire (mounted on the outermost flange of the Lego 22969 Power Pullers wheel, the "Plumped" RC4WD Hollowpoint Scale Comp 2.2 Tire (also mounted on outermost wheel flange), the best Hollowpoint Tire mounting position (behind the INNERMOST flange of the Lego Power Puller wheel), and the natural Lego Power Puller Tire mounting position: There is a problem with using large-diameter, third-party RC tires on the Lego 9398 4x4 Crawler set -- the front tires (seen below) rub against the fenders when the shock absorbers are pressed down. The smaller-diameter Two Face 1.9 Offroad Scale Tires (mounted on the rearmost Lego 44772 wheels below) don't have that problem: RC4WD's Two Face 1.9 Offroad Scale Tires on Lego 44772 wheels (Left) look good compared to the (oversized) Hollowpoint Scale Comp 2.2 Tires mounted on Lego 22969 Power Puller wheels (Right): You can see below that the Lego Power Puller wheels+tires still look a bit small to fill the wheel wells of the Lego 9398 4x4 Crawler set, so there has got to be a "happy medium" compromise size between the two: RECOMMENDATION: Although third-party, RC-type tires DO FIT on the Lego 22969 Power Puller wheels, the protruding outer flange of the wheel looks a bit odd. Since those wheels are rare and expensive, I recommend using common Lego 44772 wheels for Lego Technic vehicles with fenders. If you have an articulated Lego Rock Crawler (without fenders), then you can select among many of these sizes of tires in the chart below. I'm sure there are other RC tire manufacturers in other countries that would have tires in the ~2" (51mm) width range.
  12. Interesting! Have you tried attaching a motor to it?
  13. It looks awesome with those Lego Power Puller wheels and tires, and the flag is a nice touch!
  14. This is nice! You should add it to BrickTruckTrial.com for others to enjoy there too.
  15. @ allanp: The Lego 9398 4x4 Crawler is not meant to replicate an HPI RC vehicle. Heck, the official instructions say not to drive the Lego model outside. However, the HPI vehicle cannot be easily "modded" like Lego Technic can into other vehicles. Besides, it's fun to crawl over things and experiment with it! The HPI vehicles are more intimidating to the target audience of 11-16 year olds (and AFOLs who have never grown up!)
  16. xSergio74 (the author of SR3D) wrote in this Eurobricks post that "If you want to create paper instructions then you need to use an external tool. There are many and probably the best can be found here: http://lpub.sourceforge.net/ ." Blakbird said that "LPub will only open .ldr and .mpd files, so just change the [sR3D .L3B] extension to one of these."
  17. What a realistic-looking Lego Technic VW Golf! You did a great job with the Lego Digital Designer (LDD) .lxf file.
  18. On his Facebook page, Sariel wrote "If you are interested, the final volume of the basic content of my book is over 320 pages. That's not counting things like introduction or acknowledgements, or appendixes which I'm trying to throw in there. http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-LEGO-Technic-Builders-Guide/dp/1593274343/ " This is up from the previous 256 pages, and the discounted price is good! The "Publication Date: November 9, 2012" (also stated on the No Starch Press publisher's website).
  19. Image I have built Nico71's Trial Jeep (in the original yellow) -- what have you modified on it, besides the color and roof? He already has PDF Building Instructions available for download.
  20. @ z3_2drive: I like the simplified steering setup, and the lightweight design. If you want to keep the same-scale tires as the Umimog tires you have now, I recommend the "Rock Creepers" tires ( http://store.rc4wd.com/Rock-Creepers-19-Scale-Tires_p_222.html ), which have these dimensions: Outer Diameter: 3.8" (95mm) Width: 1.45" (37mm) Inner Diameter: 1.9" (48mm) . I own some of these, and have held them side-by-side with the Unimog tires. The Rock Creepers are REAL CLOSE to the Lego Unimog's 92912 tire's dimensions (94.3 x 38R), but with the soft rubber compound and big lugs, it will perform better in rock crawling duties.
  21. Today, TLG has replaced the old picture of the Power Functions Receiver to the "Version 2" (v2) one, but the downloadable specification is from 2010.
  22. Hmmm, if you suggest people to "add some nose weight" to the 9398, perhaps the B-MODEL is a better crawler than the A-Model, due to its nose-heavy design. Have you built it and tried it on your "rubble mountain"?
