Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Seems a little expansionist to me... But then again, Avalonia is the biggest guild territorially, I bet they won't miss it. -
Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
From the official charter of the town of Gearsport: "Although this land is often referred to as Esterbroke by Avalonian tongue, al'Estebroke has been a destination of Kaliphlin traders for centuries. All established places of note amongst this island are Kaliphlinian or native in origin. For this reason, the town of Gearsport, the founding company G.E.A.R. Co, hereby pledge its allegiance to Kaliphlin. All guilds are welcome, although Kaliplhin will gently hold al'Estebroke to her chest in purposes of defense and trade." OOC: The Gearsport MOCs are done... I just haven't got there is the story yet! -
I am sure we will get some, then finally we can put together Guilds of the Wild West forum. ::ducks:: I miss WW, that was the first series I binged on as a kid and the first army I ever collected. (Now all those cavalry riders wear heavy armor and ride for Kaliphlin!)

Why doesn't Castle have its own section of Eurobricks?
SkaForHire replied to thetang22's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Booyah!!! I think Castle and pirates were about the same popularity in the late 80's early 90's. Pirates died down because TLG stopped releasing them every year. Off that topic, but many GOHers are people who started their adult love for Lego in the Pirates forum, so I think that helps point out how all of these forums are connected as well. I still don't know LR fell out of here, it wasn't super popular to begin with and was closest to Wild West, for those poor folks that have no new members building in their style. :( Also, how long ago was pirates part of this forum? You and I are coming near a decade here at EB, and ever since I think ever since I have been here it has been it's own forum -- that was the only forum I really visited for years. (Not directed at Z here,) The point to that is, these two forums have been separate for almost 10 years, why merge them? Why would that make any sense? Why would it make sense to separate LOTR and Castle? There are not enough MOCs or really contagious threads for either subgroup. -

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
I meant because the old map did not include all of the Book one settlements, I thought. Also, I was thinking that you should just take off the deserted / destroyed settlements on the new map, and make the still existing Book 1 and Book 2 cities all the same color / number system. Then just have the old map and the new map posted side by side for comparison on the main page. Just my two cents though. -

We have to build anticipation! Don't worry you will find out a lot more about the challenge before the 1st. -

Map by skaforhire2, on Flickr My brother's town from book one, he still has not officially declared for Mitgardia in book two, but he is still active. I think he did one MOC there. We used it to base the Battle of Khordeem too. I like the map, I like the idea of a new and old map, i know that is more work, but that would help with overlapping cities from the two books, and give us a sense of history when we look back at how the maps have changed over time. Then again, like many of us, you probably have a life that keeps you pretty busy, and putting together another map might not be high on your priority list! Still, great job with the update! -
Rebuilding What Once Was (Challenge 4 Prelude, Chapter 2) Chapter One The thunderous sound of the earth roaring seemed to last for hours in Kaliphlin. Not only did the Lone Mountain explode, but the force of the tremor was felt as far away as Mitgardia. Much of Kaliphlin was shaken, and many places suffered catastrophic damage. The newly rebuild city of Sultan’s Gate was not spared the wrath of the “Great Disturbance” (As it has come to be known). However, as the dust cleared and those who were spared began shifting through the rubble, treachery has surfaced! One of the housing districts that seemed to have sunk into the ground during the quake, was sabotaged! It soon became apparent that Drow tunnels were dug under Sultan’s Gate. For what purpose, we many never know, but the culprits have seemed to have abandoned their plans now. Sultan’s Gate is a tight knit community, and soon the rebuilding effort began. Robuko by Picture, on Flickr (NOTE: Thanks to Robuko for building this MOC, when he gets back in town he will probably post this as a separate free build with more close up shots.) Orcs, humans, mummies all work throughout the day to try and clear up the results of the landslip. Some of the newest Petraea General Trading Company contraptions are used in the effort. In this painting we can see the Ornithopter Flying Boat surveying and lifting rubble. At this rate, perhaps Sultan’s Gate will find normalcy in a few months. But something seems to be lurking in the distance, a general feeling seeps over the people, that the Landslip, the earthquake, and the intrusion upon Kaliphlin are all just early warnings to something greater. And… with the new strangers starting to appear in town, from “Ulandia” or “Ulantis” or ”Ulandus”, or something like that, a place no Kaliphlin seems to recall, , one must wonder what this new era may bring. proverb by skaforhire, on Flickr Rebuilding What Once Was (Challenge 4 Prelude, Chapter 2)

First new join of 2015? Welcome to Kaliphlin, Aymeri of Katoren! Excellent introduction build(s) and story. We are very happy to have you! We are in an exciting time here in Kaliphlin, and you might want to locate your city and send NiceMarmot a PM, as he is finalizing the new version of the map. May I suggest the city without a name where the oil road and the small road going south to the qar-akhen river meet? It is located on the Northeast Siccus Badlands map -

Brethren of the Brick Seas?
SkaForHire replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well we started conversing again yesterday. This is the way we have generally moved. We have reds, blues, greens, and pirates, but they all have a made up country name. Not sure if we can get away with banning fleshies, there may not be enough people on either side of that debate to sustain such a project. Here is to hoping. -
I see you already answered the question, but I was going to ask what system you were using. My brother and I have written a system, but it is based more around units having abilities than mass battles... although we did recently do a mass battle to see how the rules held up, We fight a lot of these battles with Historica as the background. We will probably be releasing the rules to the world in the summer, after about 10 years of making them. I think the d6 system you were talking about is good for young learners, and a good way to get kids into wargames. Good luck!

I know he is not on every day as he used to be but TUB had placed Carn on the Inland sea, but you may have already got that. Mike has a few things on Gorr now, I can't think of any other missing sites off the top of my head. I think we are still purposely leaving Lost Vega off the map still? You don't have to verify from me, just build and tell us where it is. If it is in a spot that is not convenient for the guild, we can talk about where is more convenient. -
Super cool! I like the walls at angles, it goes really well, and isn't something you really see a lot.

With the little scenes you may want to add a border or platform to lift the scene from the ground and make it more of a presentation. You don't have to, but in finding creative ways to display MOCs, I usually think of new techniques that I can incorporate into later MOCs.

Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
I am not sure why you say nobody will listen, you have not had any suggestions since the end of Book 1. I am just saying, story suggestions are welcomed from all, but we can't do anything unless we hear them. Anyway, if you don't want to take me up on my offer, that is fine. I hope that you stick it out on EB and keep building. I will make sure to watch your flickr feed. -

Whereas I too wish Zakon GoldBlade had crushed Revolword and become our supreme leader, sometimes things just don't work out the way we want -- even with a disc of Tzeentch . What I am getting at here, is I can't remember much activity from you since the last Book 1 challenge. I wish we would have heard more from you, more input, more ideas what you would like to see in a challenge, but we didn't. We are up for anyone's ideas. What are the unnecessary changes you speak of? On another note, I don't know why you are leaving now, Zakon's forces could still take over Nocturnus in challenge 5. But still, things for book 3 will be different, maybe Zakon can take up residence in his summer home on the Kaliphlin shore for book 3? Actually, heck, give me a PM and we can talk about how you can be a big part of challenge four. -

When Altonio De’Ran felt the world shake, surely he was dreaming. Unfortunately as the Kaliphlin Guardsman of Dompei--un’Erezhi (Town’s name translates to “Damp under the Lone Mountain” in ancient Kaliphlinese) looked out his window, the worst thing possible filled his vision. Erezhi was erupting. No, not erupting, exploding. The Lone Mountain had blown its top, and now fireballs were raining down on the three towns around her base. on Flickr He screamed to his leiutenent, but when he finally got out of the barracks, he could see the steady stream of people running for their lives. DSC_1461 by skaforhire, on Flickr Black, fiery rock was falling from the sky, the residence next door had already been hit by a large piece of the mountain. DSC_1468 by skaforhire, on Flickr He looked over to his left and saw at least one person who had been ended by the flying fire missiles. DSC_1459 by skaforhire, on Flickr And the world kept shaking. DSC_1457 by skaforhire, on Flickr To his right he saw a woman grasp her son. After placing a kiss on his head, in defeat she covered the boy’s face and said “Goodnight, sweet prince.” DSC_1462 by skaforhire, on Flickr Then the ash came. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- It was said that the mountain shook for two days, and the lands bordering the Southern Ocean felt the earth cry out for three more nights before she washed away her pain in a great wave that devastated the coast. Although the devastation was enormous, Kaliphlin’s sorrow was just beginning. trustnobody by skaforhire, on Flickr edit by skaforhire, on Flickr

Which reminds me, if anyone has time to do a quick, somewhat minimalist, 16x16 - 32x32 scene in the next two weeks, let me know. I might not have time to finish every plot MOC that I was planning. group by skaforhire, on Flickr -
Nice job, I like where the story is going. It is good to see the development of characters! I like the action poses, and it is a nice little ship!
