  1. I LOVE your minifigs . The lanscaping could use some more attention though. It's quite significant how much less detailed it looks compared to those great soldiers. Can anybody explain, why michealozzi has no "customizer" tag? IMO he's the best customizer out there.... -Perfectionist
  2. Hehe, well I doubt that sailing warships were still popular in the 1870s Your mainmast is very, very close to the foremast, really it should be much further apart from it. I also found the gun placement a bit weird, the guns should be 4-6 studs apart though 4 studs IMO works best. It should be quite possible to fit 8 instead of just 6 guns into that hull... Also there is no figurehead which i think you really need to change. If you have time, custom sails and rigging could improve your ship a lot. It really takes an insane amount of time though... The colourscheme looks a bit weird with the SES hull pieces since the red line is not continued. Other than that I'm glad there's one more bluecoat ship on these forums I've seen the Admirality on 1000steine.de Why not post it on EB? It's lovely! -Perfectionist
  3. Hmm just 11 replies... The mini sub is really good though, probably best i have seen so far. I quite like that there is an interior It's always nice to see some MOCs that are different from what we are used to see here on the forums. -Perfectionist
  4. Hey DutchTreat, to me it looks like you are sticking very much to the Imperial Flagship in your design. However you should notice that the IFS isn't realistic at all; IMO it looks like a house with sails since its so bulky. Just in case you are willing to build more realistically: -move the mizzen mast (the third one) about 4 studs and the main mast 6 studs towards the stern -place both hatches betwenn the main mast and the foremast -i would also try to lower both the stern and bow if you can, you could take advantage of the new hull pieces by removing the upper part: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/wesvdell...rian/lstern.jpg Now doesn't that look sleek? -maybe increase the gun count to 6 per side by placing them just 4 studs apart? -MOC cannons on the upper deck also are nice touch: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/RickB/Bu...ate/step9-h.jpg Just my 2 cents, what you have build so far doesn't look bad at all. But you can always improve -Perfectionist
  5. Sorry it's the next day already, but still: Happy Birthday to you, Zorro! Hope you had one! Perfectionist
  6. Come on, I'm really curious to know where you got the torso print! They can't be in the standard LDD simply cause they are not in production anymore. So who made that lovely MOD for the Universe MOD? Perfectionist
  7. Nice! I really liked that vehicle most when I first saw Episode V as a kid. I also like some of the changes you made in comparison to Rocko's AT-AT, esspecially the main gun design is a huge improvement. I like the UCS sign and the head, however some closeups would be nice. Might be in the folder though (which unfortunately isn't yet public). I'll come back when it is. Great job! Perfectionist
  8. Wow that's REALLY useful! Now prototyping is possible at a much better level! Thanks a lot. One of the very greatest topics on Eurobricks imo. -Perfectionist
  9. I hope I can somehow avoid making so many knots in the ratlines; might use glue. Sorry, but I'm just inexperienced and impatient with string Well a good thing is that the rigging is super tight, so that it really stabilises the masts; I can hold the deck at 90 degrees and they won't fall off! And yes, you're right: black string looks so much nicer Esspecially your 50 gun American frigate really benefits from it! I don't share that opinion. My digicam is pretty rubbish, I can't get a good close-up, essentially it's using these bricks with 4 transparent cheese slopes and a 2x2 dish on top. I've taken the design from the lanterns I made for the Superbe a while ago, but these here are smaller. As soon as I can afford it, I'll get myself a better camera and also use white cardboard for the background; really it can't be that mediocre MOCs get more attention just because they're better photographed. -Perfectionist
  10. How about a ship building contest? I think it would be time after 2 landbased events (PTVII + community build). Something not too large like the "Pimp my IMTP ship" one, but in a different context. Maybe "build a galleon" on the small prefabs? There aren't too many of these ships in the index. Or "build a sloop" on small prefabs. Possibly a privateer or pirate vessel. Or "build a galley" like those used in the mediterranean sea Or "build a junk"; after all China had trouble with pirates too! Or "build a medieval pirate ship" like the one of Klaus Störtebeker could have looked Or - hey that's my favourite - a "stern construction contest", where only the stern is made; in a way comparable to the "figurehead contest" Sorry again I missed the community build, I had some exams in March Regards Perfectionist
  11. Because it's just great when you can pull them off to show your interior. I think it would be a nice effect. Also you would have the possibility to have the more realistic view on the ship with the hatches closed without having to turn it to the other side. And considering how many bricks such a project costs, I doubt it will save you much not to build hatches. Might be a matter of taste, but I really don't see any good reason not to make hatches Well your ship is going to be great anyway, but to me it would be better with hatches. Perfectionist
  12. You've managed to squeeze 28 guns on just 7 midsections, which is incredible! However the "real" 6 American heavy Frigates had 30 guns and 32 gunports on the gundeck. So I can't imagine you'll manage to fit 54 guns, which would be realistic. 50 seems more doable; and it's still enormous for a frigate! Perfectionist
  13. They look to scale for me: look here. Actually I think they're rather too thick than too thin. Regards Perfectionist
  14. Yep, it's indeed realistic like that: Look here! I'm surprised myself, how close this scheme is to #9. But the small changes make it look much better IMO. Thanks! Perfectionist
  15. Hey guys, I've found a colourscheme that looks lovely. Thanks to Captain Blackmoor who helped me with that decision on MSN. So I'd say, this is the FINAL scheme for my ship: Regards Perfectionist
  16. Hey there, Admiral! That's certainly a beauty, you got there. I especially like the very sleek and elegant appeareance achieved through the lenght of 7 midsections and comparatively small horizontal curving. The jumperplates also are a nice touch for the protection beams. Your Bell is also nice, I might try that as well on my frigates. One thing I don't like so much is the dark tan headrails. Certainly dark tan is great colour, but IMO it seems a bit misplaced there. Personally I'd prefer white. I'm not so sure of the MOC cannons on the upper gundeck: didn't most frigates at that time (and esspecially the US ones) have carronades? Well consider this a question of taste... But - most importantly - the rigging with that lovely black string looks excellent! Anyone got an idea where to get such nice string in Germany? I have looked around a lot, but haven't found that good one... Regards Perfectionist
  17. So here's something closer to what you guys liked (and myself as well ): Please state the letter you like most. Or a number if you like the first sample better. Best Regards Perfectionist
  18. WHAT did you say? 18 or 20??? You're kidding... Even on prefab hulls that's just a massive amount. Where are you planning to display them? How can one have so much space and time to devote to Lego? Well if it's true, it's not so good for the Bluecoat fleet then... Perfectionist
  19. Well, this is her current state. She hasn't been broken up yet, but soon will be. I'll upload some more picture to the original thread. Perfectionist
  20. It's really amazing by what amount your ship improved after you switched to a brickbuild hull. Although you started building on the stern, the overall shape looks very realistic! The tumblehome looks excellent and realistic as well regarding cross sections of ship models. I have to admit that the rather simple technique of using plates and tiles for the sides works REALLY well, especially in combination with those lovely 3x3 gunports. The modular design is also great, I just hope you can maintain it when doing the rigging. One thing I'm not so sure about is the stability of your construction; it looks a bit fragile to me and not like you could pick it up and hold it in one piece. With only 18 guns per deck, the Fourageux isn' exactly overarmed, but it still looks powerful. Also regarding how nice the 3x3 gunports look and that a 7 stud spacing between them is just accurate, I think there's no way to change this on a ship of this medium size. Theres one minor thing I'd like to point out though: Well actually this is my Invention and also the one I'm most proud of (besides the stern on the Achille-class). So now that I'm back on the forums, I'd be glad to have that made clear. I know that it's hard to remember where you get all your inspirations and techniques from, but let's just try to give credit wherever possible. And last but not least, the immense progress on your Fourageux after starting all over on it has inspired me to start all over on my big Project, the Superbe. Since the construction part seems pretty finished (well you just need to copy the side), I wish you much luck on building the masts and rigging it. I'm quite curious about your mechanisms and that "very special rigging". Regards Perfectionist
  21. This is a very great ship; i like the practical, minimalistic design! Due to it being longer than the Telesell, it comes much closer to the model you've shown. It's so good to have some different ships than those square rigged ones! Perfectionist
  22. Hmm to be perfectly honest I would have liked a modular design more than having some big holes in the hull. Perhaps you could make the holes sort of modular so that there is a possibility to open and close these gaps.. also would help keeping the dust away without using non-lego pieces like plexiglass. Other than that this project is just pure awesomeness, if you ever finish it, I cannot think of a better ship of that style being ever made. You are setting the ladder for MOCs quite high here... (One more reason for me to build a waterline model using completely different techniques) Regards Perfectionist
  23. Hehe, that's indeed a very very nice guillotine you have there! However the soldiers you have there are bloody Redcoats! British used to hang their victims during that time... But that's only a minor nitpick since the Lego Bluecoats are quite old (From 1989 to 1993) and I can fully understand if not everybody has them. The overall look of your creation seems very appealing to me. Perfectionist
  24. Yes, of course it does, technically the decorations are the only differences. Yeah, I've seen youre work on that rigging before on Brickshelf and I'm quite impressed! EDIT: I finally found some nice black string and tried rigging a bit; but I won't have much time the next three weeks: The parts alone cost around 400 Euros per ship :pir-skull: Regards Perfectionist
  25. No, sorry, but thats too expensive Unlike ZCerberus, i cannot get dark red from my local PAB-wall and it's quite expensive at BL! But I was thinking of using a dark red colour for the interior of the topdeck like on this beautiful model The Age would be the American Revolutionary war, as far as I know red was a popular choices for the gunports stripes back then, while during the Napoleonic wars light yellow became predominant. I looked at a couple of paintings like this one or this or this one showing thw white underwater paint. The white lines are a nice touch and i tried them in LDD too, but it didn't work for me; especially when considering that the stern will also have white ornaments. Also the Santissima Trinidad you've shown is a sapnish ship and they were much more decorated than French or British ships. I've also found some realistic measures for French 80 gun ships of the line here They are in french feet since metric measures weren't introduced before the French revolution. 1 french feet = 32,48cm= 1,066 british feet. The French 80 gun 2 deckers used in the American Campaign (for example the "Auguste") had a lenght of 186 french feet (60,4m) and a beam of 46. (14,94m). Later 80 gun ships like the Tonnant-class were smaller (182 French feet = 59m) since almost all 80 gunners suffered from structural problems due to their enormous lenght (they were longer than HMS Victory) while having only 2 decks. If I'm using 1:40 scale assuming a minifig height of 1,70m I'll end up having exactly one stud per French feet using this tool. best Regards Perfectionist
