Blimey, I did not realise that - I have aquired quite a selection of Enlighten stock which I am on the cusp of upgrading/changing to Lego. I did not think that they might be worth enough to bother selling on, and was planning to re-use items like running gear and particularly the beautiful printed windows of the first class coach. Might have to think again!

Somehow missed this thread before, the MOD is great! Mind you when I see the five wide it immediately made me think of young Biff's car from BTTF!!!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It's been said before but...the case of the missing seagull? -
Thats what I did, and so far no-one has noticed!

In all transmissions there is a little bit of slack (or maybe a lot if its an old Land Rover!), plus a little bit of spring. When one axle runs faster than the other it is winding up the transmission between the axles like a clock spring, but because the transmission is much stiffer than a clock spring it takes only a very few turns (or fraction of a turn) to become fully wound. When fully wound there is a very high load going through it and something has to give, usually a tire slips, and then the transmision winds up again until the wheel slips again. If a car is driven in this condition you will get much increased tire wear due to the tyre slip, and a short life from the overloaded transmission, and eventually it will break like an overwound clock spring.

That pool sign is brilliant. I do wonder why they chose not to do all the bricks behind the letters in white, surely would have created a better background to the P and L? -
Why is everybody calling a clearly 8 wide loco 6 wide? the yellow front alone (which is superb by the way, the best rendition I have ever seen!) is six wide, then you have the footplate to add to that, and the full width eight wide cab on the rear - see the studs on the floor? count em! The cab interior is brilliant too, the loco is captured very well. The loco does appear a little short, is this for practical reasons, i.e. coupling issues on corners? In any case the level of detail attained is outstanding. As for the cab stripes, you could phone lego customer services and get them to sell you a couple of spare sticker sheets from 60052, that would keep it 100% genuine lego. They are very obliging, even if they are not listed as spares.

I wonder if someone misheard and just heard the bar of bar-ber shop? I suspect there may be no bar! -
Red Dwarf custom minifigures

So you're a waffle man!!!! Looks like it is about to have an accident involving a sledge hammer and a waste disposal unit! The cat and Kryten are excellent, Not so sure about the others but difficult to suggest improvements. -
I built Market street earlier this year for about £175, without minifigs and the hair cabbage. It looks at a glance 100% genuine. In fact even scrutinised quite closely it looks 100% genuine, you really have to know your MS very well to spot the differences! All of the dark blue bricks were bought new from lego bricks and pieces, along with much of the light blue, the lego price being significantly cheaper than second hand from bricklink. This is what it looks like:

How about an overpriced coffee shop? -
I believe its only the earlier versions that are factory assembled, certainly now you assemble the wheels on the axles yourself before attaching them to the wheel holders. They are a snug fit, but I put a very little model railway oil* in the centre of the wheel before assembly, and this reduces the friction enough for the wheels to turn independently. *model railway oil because I know it is plastic friendly, and very little because you really do not want oil getting where it shouldn't on a toy that relies on friction to hold it together!!

I did originally build my recoloured 7725 with technic axles, simply because I had loads of spare wheels and liked to use what I had. I did however put them on individual 2 long axles with the idea of reducing friction on corners - a solid axle forces both wheels to turn at the same speed and therefore one has to slip which increases drag. However it did end up being a bit rattly due to the play in my set up so I decided to get the authentic 12V ones after all.

Where to get NEW rubber tires for 60's through 80's trains?
Heppeng replied to Rail Co's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Agree with this, just buy the tube for thin racing bike tyres (18-25mm width) and the fit is very good. Downside is only available in black! -
Very impressed. This could have lots of applications - automatic working semaphore signals too, goes back to 'danger' when a train passes!

Well that was a lot of fun! You know you're getting it right when some of them don't make it as far as the door... Not the greatest of pics as it was dark, but still... Christine's got nothing on my Frightlander! Looks a bit more tame in daylight but you can see more.. I had a fog machine running too but it was just a little too breezy for the fog to stay put.

It will soon be that time and I am a little concerned... My daughter wants me to really go to town on decorating our house and front garden, and to be honest I am also keen myself, but my imagination is running away from me... It has progressed from a few pumpkins, and gravestones, to maybe using a fog machine, to 'I wonder if I can make it so scary that even hardened trick or treaters won't venture in' I think when I start wondering how much a chainsaw costs to hire its time to rein it back a little...

Suggestion to reduce the number of old topics being bumped
Heppeng replied to TheBear's topic in Forum Information and Help
It depends a bit on the thread. Two recent examples, someone bumped a thread regarding mentioning lego on your CV offering advice to the OP. The last post was nearly 2 years previously so well and truly beyond any point or use. On the other hand someone bumped an old thread about 4.5V trains. I had just finished restoring mine and it made for interesting reading that I would otherwise have missed, and prompted me to comment also as I felt it was more of a good update/continuation of that thread rather than starting another. -

My memory may be fading, but were they not upstairs when eating the takeaway that represented "the last of the petty cash" just before they got their first call to go to the hotel and get slimer? -
Substitute light grey for light bluish grey.

Would the magnet in the coupling be sufficient to trigger the reed switch? I know on my old 12V If a car was parked on an adjacent line you could see the coupling magnet on it twitching as the couplings of an adjacent train went by, and that was 8 studs away at least!
