  1. Its not an addiction. I just ordered TH as an investment. I can stop any time I want....
  2. In the real world Railway stations tend to be large stand alone structures, that are not built on to other buildings, even in the biggest of cities. Of course there are exceptions, Many London Underground stations were built in to streets in a style that would suit a modular very well, but then the trains themselves were completely out of sight underground! And thats the problem, where do the trains go, out of sight behind the other modulars? Running along the front instead of a road? Problem is mainline railways and city streets do not mix very well. My own plan is to have tracks and platforms to the front then 2150 station building, which is rather nice architectually and if you get two back to back you could sort of Modularise it in so far as you can convert it to have stacking floors. It would still be a stand alone building mind. Then I would have the street with the modulars behind.
  3. Blimey, these old motors are pretty formidable - the later 12V motors can handle a good load, my one motor 7740 can handle all the cars as per my signature with ease!
  4. Whilst that would work, it would still be restricted to the slow trundle of 4.5V battery operation. The 12V motor has its pinion set in a different position on the shaft, so that it meshes with the alternate gear ratio provided within the gearbox, and is much faster, and although I suspect not as fast as the later 12V motors, I would love to get one so as to be able to do a comparison!
  5. The post above (#14) looks like spam but I am kind of glad this topic has been brought back up since I have just restored my childhood set no 133. I also got given some lego not long after which unbeknownst to me included most of the bits for 124 and 125, which I only just realised what they were when I came out of my dark ages, so I restored them too! However I do run them on my grey era 12V layout, and I am very tempted to convert the loco to 12V using the early 12V motor - the one that is in fact exactly the same as the 4.5V motor except with a 12V motor inside.
  6. Firstly, this thread is about sales from retailers, and second specifically about sales in the UK. You should at least start a separate thread as your item fails on both counts!
  7. Smyths have some good deals at the moment - 60052 cargo train for £109.99, that's £30 off, and if you order on line and use the voucher code OCT12OFF (applies to orders over £100) you get a further £12 off for a total of £97.99, including free delivery! I have posted in the UK sales, but thought it deserved more coverage! (and I might have to update my signature soon!)

  9. I wonder, maybe an alley to the left of the building, so the open area compliments the PR when placed next to it? Ground floor bar, upper floor detective agency? Joined up thinking perhaps!
  10. Number 5 is ALIVE!!!! Very well done!!! Remember, 'No disassemble!!!"
  11. OK, that's a bit extreme! My collection is pretty much as per my signature.
  12. Might not be so difficult, how close are the new steam train wheels in size compared to those of 7750?
  13. It's going to be a long day out for me (and my daughter!), but I have taken the plunge! I hope to have a good chat about exhibiting too as I am putting together a 12V railway for shows, and need some tips!
  14. Its a bit tough to call. I have shortened 12v train track straights as it is otherwise impossible (note I did not say difficult, I really mean impossible) to create the railway the size and shape needed, particularly as I am running a double track (and in places trebble) with restricted space so cannot have massive spaces between tracks that the standard straights dictate.. But I would not do it to create a piece I could just buy.
  15. The PR has a pretty good wine rack too!
  16. Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not what you think it is. I did my research, and put it up with a BIN for the typical asking price for it on bricklink. It was snapped up fairly quickly suggesting in reality it was probably worth even more, not less!
  17. Last year I got a used complete with box and instructions Emerald Night for £95 from gumtree. I sold the coach for £80 on Ebay, so got the loco for a net cost of £15....
  18. Absolutely fantastic! It takes my breath away! Although pedantic mode on - its 2,250bhp not 3,500bhp.
  19. 7725 was my first 12V set! I think it was a budget alternative to the 7740, about half the number of pieces, the only minifigure was the driver, no station just a small circuit of track. I recently bricklinked a motorless version in alternate colours to run 'in multiple' with the original - it seems like a multiple unit after all - to make a train six cars long. There are however some suprisingly rare parts - the 3x3 grey slope is only used on this set, the 7760 shunter and one classic space set, which was therefore relatively expensive! Of course I could not wait to collect all the pieces so I tended to build as much as I could whenever the orders arrived. It was quite something seeing it come together, I am sure you will enjoy it too! You can check it out here if you are interested: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86586&hl=7725
  20. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that vehicle registration numbers are comprised of designers initials + set number, so there could be a clue there.
  21. Once you have got hold of me you'll never want to lego...
  22. At a push on level track I have managed five, but to be on the safe side I don't go above four.
  23. Gives a whole new meaning to SNOT!!!!
  24. Very well put and informative. However, if this is aimed at someone who gets confused with the difference between perceptual and perpetual, then I perceive (see what I did there?) the only thing perpetual will be his attempts to justify his views, irrespective of how well the laws of physics are explained...
