That's quite impressive. The only bit that needs improving (and I don't know how just yet) is the top edge of the front. There has to be a way to make that a little more rounded...
-
Yes you could. But the post specifically mentioned a standard train base. Also, making the base out of normal plates doesn't change the fact that the floor of the carriage needs to be much higher to fit the battery box underneath. That's what I wanted to show with the illustration.

https://www.flickr.com/groups/legotrains/ I just don't get this new Heavy Haul train. You could criticise it for being lame with two flat cars, you can moan about the cargo or the fact that the engine look like the yellow one only more boring with the sides made from 6x16 tiles instead of brick-built with doors or complain that while it's got 12 straights it has no points. But the main thing I don't get is: they're already selling a freight train and it's better. Who do they think will be buying this set?

I think you've just proven my point...

Have you tried the catalog on Bricklink? There's not that many 4x3 windows...

Says who? I'm pretty sure trains like the Orient Express used to have different coloured carriages (just can't find a reference image now). In the '80s German TEE trains had beige/blue for second class and beige/red for first class carriages. I've made a copy of the EN carriage with red windows and tan below and that happily runs along with the carriage from the set. Neuffen birds eye view by Duq, on Flickr And yes, I changed the roof a bit. Don't take things too seriously. All carriages exactly the same would just be boring. Build a train that you think looks good.

Don't want to be rude but have you tried the search option at all? There are numerous topics here about how to use Power Functions and about various drive trains. You can also have a look in the Flickr train groups: https://www.flickr.com/groups/legotrainideas/pool & https://www.flickr.com/groups/legotrains/pool Next step is to try a few things yourself and post a picture of where you get stuck. A lot of builders here are more inclined to help people who try than people who want everything handed to them on a plate.

[MOCs] GE 23-ton boxcabs (head-to-head with CommanderWolf)
Duq replied to jtlan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yes it can. However the connectors of 9V and PF don't match. From receiver to motor is no problem, the converter cable (https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60656)works fine. The problem is that you can't use the same cable to connect the battery box so you'll have to make up your own cable. One hack that I found a long time ago (can't remember where) is to connect the battery box to one output of the receiver. It works but it's not efficient; you're losing power that way. There's an explanation in the comments on this photo: PF with old 9V by Duq, on Flickr- 17 replies

I would love to own an original James Mathis train but right now I don't have an appetite for an entire collection, nevermind the 7000 mile shipping charges...

Look for a used Toy Story train 7597, Monster Fighter train 9467 or Lone Ranger train 79111 on eBay. All three come with the same wheels as Emeral Night (in red in 7597) and are cheaper to get than Emerald Night.

They start at about €0.30 on Bricklink. I'm all for repairing things rather than replacing but in this case...

Click the arrow below your photo ('Share photo'), then select BBCode, select 'Medium, 500x...' and copy the link. You say your train is based on the BR Class 43 / Intercity 125 but that's never had a dome car. Anyway, it's a promising start to a train building career ;-)

New locomotive on LEGO Ideas + new Guinness World Record
Duq replied to Henrik Ludvigsen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I like your initiative and wish you the best of luck. You'll need it... This project, not entirely unlike yours, has been on Ideas for 265 days and has already reached 539 supporters... -

Duq replied to jtlan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
They're cute! I love seeing the old-school parts like the micro-motor and the 1x4 fences being used. That must be the slowest Lego train video ever though.... How long do they run on a full battery?- 17 replies

Hey Goldie-locks. It's not the most challenging of shapes. Why don't you just start? Your first attempt will probably suck but that's happened to all of us so then you just try again. Alternatively: http://lmgtfy.com/?q...tenance vehicle After all, we're just giving suggestions. Or were you actually looking for complete instructions in the right colour and everything?

I think from my comments in this thread it's clear that I do not expect a Creator train this year. Next year? Who knows.
-
At least you got brown paper around the box. I once bought a Technic 8880 on eBay and received it with masking tape all around the actual box which of course was destroyed as a result...
-
City trains are released every 3 or 4 years so we're expecting the next City passenger train and station in 2017 or 2018. A depot, signals and other accessories are unlikely to be released. There's other public transport though. Have you seen 60097? http://gimmelego.blogspot.ie/2011/03/grand-opening.html I would also recommend reading through previous pages in this thread; there's a lot of information there (as well as a lot of guessing, wishful thinking and speculation).

I was comparing with 9V track but you're right, it's very close to the old 4.5V/12V track although as far as I know the ME rail is slightly wider than the 4.5V/12V rail.
-
YELLOW!!! Man, that's an impressive project! The scale of it is... Have you sold your car to buy parts for all this? ;-) I love the custom-built bogies; it's something I've started doing myself as well. The brass tubes work well. You can put them in Technic pins as is shown in that video or hold them in clips. And as mentioned before, I'd love to see how these massive engines make it around curves...
-
To power the Emerald Night according to the instructions you'll need an XL motor. The battery box and receiver from the Cargo train can be used.
-
ME Models track is compatible with Lego track but does not look the exact same. The top of the rail has the same width and is at the same height but the rail itself has a different profile.
-
I think it looks much better than the 'legendary' Metroliner...

In Ireland ha? Thanks to AerLingus and the Internet I actually have contacts outside of Ireland...
