Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces

Hmm. I must be very near the bottom then... -
That's why I've got the red on top ;-) Neuffen birds eye view by Duq, on Flickr

Err... you do know that HE is based on a French train right? ;-) Or you can build the passenger car in a different colour. I've done one in red and tan that looks nice. Supply & Demand + Collectors = High price. Many exclusives and Creator Expert sets get a lot more expensive after they go out of production. Wanna see crazy prices? Look for Cafe Corner. Or 7750...

They are fine. Unfortunately many of the instructions on lego.com are shite. See for example the Sandcrawler: http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/6125533.pdf I built it with my wife. She used the book, I used the laptop. There were pages where I need the actual book as I couldn't see the detail on the badly pixelated scans.

Determine exact piece count of your own collection

All those solutions are useful until you start buying from Bricklink, Pick a Brick, eBay... I've given up on having a complete inventory a long time ago. -
You make valid points (as usual). Looking at the price and number of parts the freight train doesn't actually seem to be better value than the passenger train, at least not at the prices overhere. Still, I think I'll start with my first copy of the freight train ;-)

Penneys! ;-) Argos! I've got one reserved so now I have until tomorrow night to make up my mind.

I think the Passenger train is ugly. I really don't like that one-big-mold nose. I also really don't need more curved track or remote controls so I figured I wouldn't buy the new passenger train. On the other hand, Lego train sales seem to be suffering so we all should buy train sets or else the company might one day decide to stop producing them. So maybe I should buy the new passenger train after all. I'd be interested to hear other peoples views on this dilemma.

Seriously? You really didn't get it, did you? @DavidMull: are you a member of brick.ie ?
-
Yes, lots of news. We're just keeping it from you.

Gotta love that typo! Cool name for the cat by the way.

If you have more than one controller it's easy to figure out where the problem is. Swap controller and train and if the problem stays with the controller then the controller is faulty, if the problem stays with the train then the receiver is faulty. After that just call customer service to get a replacement of whatever part is faulty.

As close as possible without requiring a license ;-)

Any one know if http://www.ministickers.nl/ is working?
Duq replied to kieran's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks like they changed to a new domain registrar and new DNS servers yesterday. I guess something went wrong in the transition. They'll probably be back soon. Not clever to plan a change like that on a Friday... https://who.is/domain-history/ministickers.nl -
Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces
Duq replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Santa was actually really good to me ;-) All my Lego is in storage at the moment as we're about to sell our house so there's no rush. I'm just curious to get my hands on it though... -
When the HE was coming out I had argued in Eurobricks that I would have preferred 8 straight rails at the expense of a few of the minifigs. You'd have twins of all of the figs after buying the requisite pair of sets and would have to purchase a lot of stuff you did not want to be able to get the HE on straight track. Exactly. I'm glad I didn't end up with another 2 loops of track after buying my 2 copies of HE. A lot of Creator Expert train sets are probably on a shelf as display model. Adding PF as standard would probably have lost a lot of sales because the set would have been a lot more expensive because of parts that are unnecessary for display.

Still telling myself to be patient... -
Now there's a helpful post.... Seriously, why bother posting something like that?

May I ask why? You can just buy those parts on Bricklink... Anyway, the parts are available in LDraw so all you need is a way to convert that to a format that works for 3D printers.

There's a similar thread at the moment. If you want to start building your own trains then the current freight train is a good starter parts pack. You don't have to use the train motor to power a train. Many steam and other engines have been created that use the M, L and XL motors. Have a look at the models in the Flickr LEGO Train MOCs and LEGO Train ideas groups for inspiration.

Hey David, welcome to one of the more addictive themes in Lego ;-) As mentioned above, Lego unfortunately don't release many train sets these days. Every 3 or 4 years there's 3 City train sets; a passenger train, a freight train and a station. Sometimes there are extra's like a maintenance truck or a level crossing. Buying advice would depend on what your intention is; if it's collecting then yes, get your hands on Emerald Night, Maersk and Horizon Express before the price goes up further. If you want to start MOC'ing your own trains then get the current freight train because it's a great starter pack of train parts; wheels, couplers, motor and track. After that Bricklink and eBay are your friend. To answer your first question of a list of popular train sets head over to Brickset. I've created a custom query that shows you the most owned train sets. Not the definitive answer the best I could come up with. http://brickset.com/sets/query-2088

I missed this thread the first time around. I've done one engine with an L-motor; my BR 055 steam engine. It's using EN-drivers and no gearing up or down. It goes around at a decent speed for a steam engine, using the PF rechargeable battery box. BR55 Drive train by Duq, on Flickr

That picture is shocking... -
Yes! I completely forgot about that one! Oh, and the 'you own' was of course a very Royal 'you'.
