Heroica RPG - Quest #132: The Clans Under the Mountain

"This one? He does as he is instructed by me alone. I do not know the problems the mob caused you but they must have be commanded to do so by the true source of your trouble. As far as my experience with dwarves is concerned, I have had minimal contact with your race. I do know your lot are responsible for the creation of wonderful explosives-" En Sabah Nur uses Diplomacy. "-for clearing debris and tunnels." Nur smiled. He liked to see things go BOOM! whether they were inanimate or living... -

"Of course! This ruse will serve as the perfect starter mission for my grey skinned squire. We do not share the look of conventional knights and knights-in-training but who is to say that our current look is not the norm from where we hail?" -

The bowl before him now empty, Nur wiped his mouth with a corner of his cloak. "Thank you for the meal, sir. I am ready to get going." -

Nur raised his eyebrows and paused his meal to watch his questmates join him. Frumptiousness? Is that how you pronounce that? "Excuse my rudeness but I'm going to continue eating in front of you so order something if ye'd like. My father would always tell me to eat a hearty meal and take an ample sized shi-before any job." -

"So Mr. Fru...Frumpti...Mr. Fizzleearth. What brings you to this side of the Island? Heard any good rumors while you've been in her-" Nur turns towards the commotion at the bar. "Oh my." -

Nur's smile faded instantly as for the first time in a long time, he was generally confused. "Why thank you. I've never heard of the Frozen Gumdrop so I'd like to try it. Yes, as I'm sure you've heard, I'm not quite sure the purpose of our quest, only that I needed to get out of the City for a spell." Nur starts as the atmosphere grows louder and a bit more tense. "It seems the other patrons including the muscled woman that led us here are beginning to get a bit rambunctious." He sippped his broth. -

Nur's eyes glistened and he visibly leaned forward as his interest was piqued by the curious creature. "Ah, so those impressive growths have a secondary functional benefit other than attracting a mate." His smile was genuine despite his awkward attempt at complimenting the lapid. "Those traveling companions I entered with accompanied me from Eubric. Now that you mentioned traveling, the journey has left my stomach empty, a condition I should most certainly remedy. Care for anything from the bar? With something to eat and bit to drink you can better regale me with the story of what brought you here." -

Nur raised his hands briefly in surrender and moved farther into the bar. He made his way to the corner booth, selecting the character he felt was the least intimidating as he or she was sitting alone. "Greetings there, friend. I am En Sabah Nur." The mage spread his arms wide and nodded with a grin attempting to show that he is of no threat to the long-eared patron. "May I share in your company?" -

En Sabah Nur lightly pinched the edge of his hat and gave a small nod. Aside from the woman warrior whom he had a couple of dealings with in the Hall for his handheld mirror, his companions looked unrecognizable to the mage. " To me, all elf faces blur. I must admit that I do not know who we are to meet. My grey skinned squire dutifully waiting outside penned my name to this quest." Ah yes, that island. Of course, the cleric and the rogue... -
"Hhmmmm, hail Alf Johon. I have been faring well of late but could be doing better. My last quest took me off this island and I acquired a few trading cards I had hoped would fetch me a large sum of gold. My dreams were dashed due to the saturation of cards in Eubric because of that tournament. Did you participate in the Decamon Tournament?"
-
What appears to be Nur being hit with a door is actually his body double Alfred stepping in to protect his master. Nur looks back from the stairwell. "Alfred, sign us up for that other quest while you're over there." The golem does as he's told and signs Nur up for Quest#132: The Clans Under the Mountain
-
Still loitering on the lower level, En Sabah Nur saw the dwarf he'd last quested with being manhandled into the closet. He tip-toed to the door. Nur's eyes widened as raised a hand to his mouth to cover the 'Oohhh' that escaped from his mouth. He grinned big and giggled as he attempted to tip-toe quietly back to the stairwell.
-
En Sabah Nur signs up for the Fields of Glory then mills around the questboard.
-
Nur has a garnet merged with his Earthy Wooden Shield (201-50 = 151 gold). He takes care to use the gem he's spent the most time using in order to preserve or perhaps strengthen the personality of the earth spirit that has claimed his shield.
-
"Oooo. Much obliged." He tipped his hat before melting away once more. The gem would help him reach the birthplace of the serpent pantheon mythology and bring him closer to learning the secrets of this religion. Especially the secrets of a goddess who is also partial to the magic of mirrors...
-
A figure spun on the next stool to face the beleaguered warrior. The familiar cheshire grin revealed the man to be Nur. "Greetings Aged Knight. Might I be able to part you from one of your garnets for a modest fee of 90 gold?"
-
Free passage to Salmanda...I can find a way to venture to the Venomari temple in Addis Vipara and learn more of the serpent pantheon. The secrets the Cobra Priests share with me will be astounding. I'll have access to poisons so devastating that even Heroican alchemists could not remedy them. En Sabah Nur signs up for Quest#130: Sisters in Salmanda then meets up with his golem companion. "Alfred...have you completed your task? Have you found me a garnet?" - "Not yet, Sire. Shall I continue my treasure hunt?" - Cute... "Indeed, my friend. Your quest continues!" "As you wish, m'Lord." Nur makes his way back up the stairs to his table.
-
"War-craft eh! I understand now...you are a blacksmith or a sort of mystical trinket-maker. Are you akin to the mustachioed lady in the marketplace?"
-
Nur shrugs again, giving his hand a once over. "Magic...merely an incantation running its course." He turns towards Thalion. "How well can a craftsman possibly fair on a dangerous quest? When faced with an enemy do you throw your pottery creations at them or simply hide behind your companions?"
-
Leftover nonsense.
-
"The Ziegfried's have the power to summon demons? Astounding...it is a power we need access to in our guild." Stones suddenly fall from Nur's hand as it returns to normal. The mage shrugs as he has found it is best not to waste time and energy questioning these things. He sweeps the rubble off the table onto the floor.
-
En Sabah Nur found a spot to sit and concentrate. A red hued portal opened behind his left shoulder and a portal with spiraling water opened on his right. In front of him a third portal opened on the ground, lightning striking outward and upward until the Chidoris Obelisk erupted forth. Clumps of dirt burst from the ground to surround Nur's wooden shield as an alien aquatic creature and a rockling emerged from their respective portals. Nur explained to the spirits and the Rockling that he wouldn't be calling for them any time soon. The spirits bound to his aquamarine and topaz returned to their planes but Nur asked Emerald to wait a moment. "Emerald you're a battle mage...perhaps you can help me with a spell I've been working on." - "As long as you're quick about it! I'm supposed to meet my friend to go hat shopping in a half hour." En Sabah Nur grinned. "Of course. I have spent much time observing the Wolfgang and believe I can replicate their beast transformation. If you could take a look at my proposed incantation and hand gestures..." Emerald looked over the presented material, nodded then left through her portal. Nur sighed and cast the beast transformation spell. Some...thing's...not right... -> "That...didn't quite go as planned. I look ridiculous." Unused to his new body, Nur thought it best to let the spell expire as opposed to casting a reversal spell. He stretched a few limbs then sat and waited. Alfred arrived just as his master reverted to his natural form. Nur looked at his companion then to his shield still floating nearby. "Well alright then. I'm pretty good with a bo staff. Let our training begin." En Sabah Nur (Jebediahs) 31 year old male human, Mystic Knight Level 31.25 *Immune to Darkness*, *Converts Ether to Health*, *Reflects Ether-Based Attacks* Power: 51 (71 vs. Humanoids) Health: 52/52 (Mage Base 5 + Level Bonus 30 + Mystic Knight Bonus 7 + Raw Meat Bonus 5 + Raw Meat Bonus 5) Ether: 42/42 (Mage Base 5 + Level Bonus 30 + Mystic Knight Bonus 1 + Ectoplasm Bonus 2 + Sedge Hat Bonus 4)

"I have seen the recruitment poster. It did nothing to pique my interest." From his seat Nur gripped the quarterstaff. "Though combining monk training with this rocky fist could prove advantageous, I cannae' part with me walking stick."

"Mirrors...very interesting. I would really like to hear the details behind the apparatus and/or spells used to achieve the cavern lighting. I have developed a fascination with the power of mirrors ever since the encounter at the Academy that nearly led to Erdacath's and my own demise. We faced a mirror whose magic involved bringing forth perverted reflections of any unfortunate enough to gaze into it. Ah, look here." Nur pulled out his pocket mirror. "This one here has the power to protect against some magical attacks."
