The barrel has a short sword stuck into it, and it appears to be full of nearly-dead embers. Judging by a series of burns on Jules' side, it was another torture implement used by Melville, along with several others on the bench. Thalion pauses before the table, gently lifting the spiked staff off the table. The shadowy aura dissipates as he picks it up. It now appears to safe to handle without the gloves - and bears a striking resemblance to the odd 'Cold Circle' diagram Hybros found on the table. Despair - (WP: 20, darkness-elemental, physical attacks and spells deal double damage to enemies inflicted with any negative effects, staff) '<I prefer friendly furry companions. Or broken moral compasses. But I think we're all in agreement of killing the good admiral.>' Hybros brings the party back up to the gunport, carefully prodding upward under the window sill up above with his scythe. A furry black creature falls down with a thump, and morphs into a vampire form - the gangly, red-lipped man has an unholy aura around him, holding his black sword at the ready despite looking like he'd just been woken up from a nap.   18. A pretty straightforward build, didn't have time for anything spectacular. I wanted to see if I could really achieve a really liquid-like texture since I lack the right color of bricks to do it with water. I think it turned out pretty well.

It sounds like they were discovered in Fenario. Why do the elves need to have it? If they forced half their race underground, I'm not convinced they need that kind of power." Miderun crossed her arms, a little resentment creeping into her voice. The tale of the elves and Fenarians was upsetting familiar.

It's crumpled and hastily drawn. Inside the envelope is a heavy, magical artifact of some kind. Summoning Amulet Omen licks his paw as he stares at it. '<Hehehe. All used up, by the looks of it. Your bald friend and assassin lady might recognize it.>' It's still on the table. The clamps appear to be for holding the staff steady. Many of the other instruments are too fragile or magically-inclined for the heroes to make heads or tails out of, though it's a reasonable guess they're all for repairing the staff. '<Having Melville around made Jules realize just how far they'd gone. He was content with the power being a necromancer brought. World domination was not on his agenda. I shared that opinion. We left. Simple. Heh. There are three of us in Eubric. One recently went rogue much as I did, though alone, I might add. There's me, of course, but Jules and I have been together far too long for me to leave his side. And then there is Soonavask. Who remains loyal. And powerful. Alas, I am no more than a charming talking kitty these days. There are a handful of others, beyond my sight now. We are...invaluable to the Circle. Their interest in Jules rather myself is unusual. He spots a few clamps that on close inspection appear to be about the size of the haft of the staff on the table. Melville appears to have been experimenting on the staff. Illdria walks over, glancing at the instruments and at the weapon with a bit of a wince. "That looks...a little bit like the staff Jules used to carry, but it was just a staff back then, not...whatever this is." He manages to dig up a scrap of hastily scribbled-on parchment. The increasingly familiar sigil of the Circle is scrawled on it, with some other additions. "Ye can say that again." Melvin shivers. Hoke leafs through the memoirs. The earliest details Melville's life (in excruciatingly boring detail) as the son of peasant farmers in the Low Kingdoms. Notable incidents include a chance encounter with a seagull whom he dubs Soonavask who he describes as 'speaking' to him on occasions, and joining the Paladin Order. He doesn't get far before his strict adherence to the rules get the recruits he was in charge of killed. Melville advances quickly through the ranks by following orders to the letter and getting the job done no matter the cost. One page catches the dragoon's eye. He trains with Jules for several months before the senior necromancer vanishes mysteriously. Soonavask gets him into direct contact with the Cold Circle through unclear means, and they inform him Jules has left the Circle. Soonavask continues training him, also through means unclear. Hoke flips to the last page. A large, bulky envelope with a small note attached is sitting underneath the unfinished manuscript. Omen sits silently next to Hoke as he reads through the whole thing.
