"Of course I can," scoffed Miderun, as though insulted. "Would I be here if I couldn't?"

Heroica RPG - Quest #108: Message in a Bag-of-Holding
CMP replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
The Mobs, Ravenous Remains B, and Baneful Body B should no longer be stunned. Also, I'm taking this to mean the mobs get additional free hits, rather than forcing their own regardless of whether or not they're targeted? "Good work mates. Thalion, repeat. Pretzel, try and heal those Baneful Bodies. Aroosie, Magwin, Ratabor, see if ya' can handle the first mob. It'd help if those walkin' corpses were afraid." Atramor lowered his shield, storming right into the ranks of Skeleton Mob B, kris held high in the back row. Magwin raised her gladius and chopped right into Mob A, from the back row unless Atramor has an aura. I'm assuming the Skeleton Decoy would overpower my Aura for free hits if I happened to get it. Atramor's wild mind took over, and without thinking he swung at the first undead he could see - decapitating the Scary Stiff immediately. "Damn, that's a lotta corpses." "Aroosie, try and fling that Crimson book at Mob A, back row. Ya' won't do any damage, but it'll be easier for Magwhy and Ratabor to take down. Thalion, have at those Ravenous Remains, ya' might be able to get both down in one good swing. Heckz, now would be a good time to put up that Skeleton Decoy." The regulator swung at Baneful Body A from the back row. Magwin hacked at Mob A from the back row, unless Atramor had an aura, in which case she attacks from the front row. "Not here, anyway." Miderun sipped her drink idly and looked between the barbarian and the ranger.
-
I'm pretty sure they're referring to Dastan's government since that's where they caused such significant damage. You might argue that they fall under jurisdiction of Eubric's judicial branch, but like you said...they don't really have one.

Miderun stared at the pale human and pulled her mask down briefly. "Miderun."
-
"Maybe. I find hitting things more reliable." Miderun shrugged. "Serstyral and I have been through too much to give it up for magic now. I doubt I would've survived the wyvern without her."
-
Pretzel just couldn't handle the Magnificent Magnification.

"Fine then, we're doin' this the hard way." Atramor turns, and aims to swing the Pheles Kris into the nearest undead. "You're in our way." -

Atramor lowered his voice. "Change of plans, they're distracted. Far as I know that way leads to the paladin's quarters - Arosia, can ya' lead us to our stuff before we take 'em on?" -
Miderun seemed slightly alarmed as Polly's drink began to burn, but it didn't explode violently as she'd heard spells were prone to do. "Huh. I didn't know magic could be so...subtle. But then all our tales of magic usually involve a great battle of some kind. That's an interesting spell. If you could do that to an enemy..." Miderun stared at the blackened mess of chocolate milk in Polly's glass. "Well, I'll be glad to have you on my side if we end up on a quest."
-
And a half-giant too. Sounds really interesting. Don't underestimate the capabilities of the Magnificent Magniscope.

"Sounds like a plan. Everyone get ready. Gettin' beatin' into unconsciousness by a horde of undead ain't somethin' I wanna relive." Atramor turned, and raised his shield, preparing himself as he pushed open the door. -
"That's impressive. But it looks like you're more the magic sort of person. You'll have to show me a spell or two sometime. I don't think I've ever even met a mage, but that's because what few orc mages there were were lost in the invasion and the magical blood has kind of run out. By the looks of it there's wizards all over the place in this city. Mauwalt Scheherazade told me about an entire family of them. I could not even picture that. You must be very talented to cast spells at your age." Miderun smiled and sipped from her mug of ale once more.

You can still comment up until the quest starts. Second section of the first post of this topic.

You don't have to read much to get started. You should read Sandy's first post in this topic, it pretty much outlines how to play the game and start your character. You also may want to skim through a shorter quest or two to get a grasp on how it's played.

"Finally, some useful information..." "We'll deal with the undead, then, and then you can give us the map to our stuff so we can go investigate the rest of the place and find Greenhood so we can get the hell out. Are either of you any good in a fight?" -
Miderun frowned deeply as Polly told her story. "That's not right at all. That's.....in Baltarok, family is all you have. I couldn't imagine..." The orc sighed, patting Polly on the back comfortingly and very nearly knocking the young mage off her chair. "I'm sorry to hear that. So you took it on yourself to make your own way instead of relying on them. That I can understand. I almost did very much the same several years ago. And your father did too? Was he a bounty hunter as well?" At the moment the best thing Miderun could think to do was knock some sense into the girl's parents, but that seemed inappropriate. For a wide variety of reasons.
-
Yeah, I like the repertoire we're all building.
-
"That's what Scheherazade said. And what about you? Why's a girl of your age hunting bounties?"
-
"I didn't just abandon them. I found a purpose, and they seemed pretty proud of that, if nothing else. Leaving Baltarok was understandably difficult, but my father spent a lot of time with those heroes. I guess he'd thought I'd be good at it because he gave me enough gold to make it here."
-
Miderun glances over at the elf the young mage referred to, then back at the child herself. "Truthfully, I don't know, Polly. I love Baltarok, but this is the second time I've left it, and that's twice more than most native orcs. I think I want something more out of life. On most rites of passage orcs try and hunt aepyorni or small rocs - which sound trite, but they're very quick, and temperamental if cornered. And off I went into the den of a damn wyvern to try and prove I'm better." Miderun rubbed the back of her neck. "Things seemed quiet after that for a while. Then a clan leader gets kidnapped, dad moves us all to some village, and everyone's worrying about this bridge they've been building." The orc pauses, taking a sip of her drink again as she frowns. "Next thing we know our hometown is burning and they're taking an army to the bridge. The dust settles, and...everything's different. And in the middle of it all are some random humans nobody's ever even seen, fighting for orcs they've never even met, and winning. I found out they're part of this organization here. Heroica. And if they do that kind of thing regularly, well...nothing I ever do in Baltarok is going to compare to that. So here I am."
-
Miderun smirked slightly as she put down her drink. "So then we can call everyone else pointy-eared humans, short humans, giant humans, hairy humans, and flying humans? We're all very different from eachother, Polly. Goblins even have their own country."
-
"Oh. This island doesn't seem that large. Baltarok isn't as nearly as condensed, but I suppose we have more space than this." "No, we have goblins, hobgoblins, trolls, porcs, gremlins, "thug slugs" as you call them, ogroblins, and ogres."
-
"Just wyverns, no dragons. Lots of aepyorni though, dangerous in herds. The weather is not pleasant, and water is scarce too. Not to mention what lies across the river." "I've never heard of Bric'lin. Is it a country, or one of these...what are they, the Free Islands?"
