the lack of any shooting device or play feature makes me doubt the authenticity of this set. plus you can see the shadow doesn't exactly line up. looked to have been tampered with. my guess is that is a fan's creation. either that or perhaps it's a very very early prototype before they take it apart and add all those flick missiles. in any case, wouldn't have expected to see the commandos that early. you usually see new molds very late in development...when they are finalizing the details...that doesn't seem to me to be the finalizing stage photo.

the kmart near my area is stocked with wave2 impulse. lots of troll warrior sets and the knight. guess the good wizard is officially oos. let the mark ups begin! -
code = bushido. samurais were the japanese equivalent of knights. they weren't common soldiers in that they weren't paid money for their service.

really? i just picked up the last republic cruiser for $120...which was the price since boxing day. drat...guess they haven't updated their database. when do they update the "last set weird discount"? -
i think you meant asia, not orient. australia is not asia. it's in its own continent. so i am quite sure you are mistaken. orient refers to east asia, and would exclude south asia and the middle east. katana can be used one handed or double handed. samurais typically wield katanas two handed but may opt for a one handed style and use the smaller dagger as backup. i lived in tokyo for 5 years. i can only hope i learned something. seriously...trust me or not, just ask a japanese if shield was ever used in the feudal times. and this is not from last samurai or naruto. nor is my source from a web forum discussing shield usage in japan. you trust those "experts"? besides, as WF said...this is his fantasy realm. reality has nothing to do with his army.

yup, it's myer, big w, kmart, target vs tru and david jones. TRU and david jones are part of woolies group i think. woolies australia is not affiliated or associated with woolies uk that is bankrupt. i have never seen kmart clearance only the dmged set. if a set is on clearance it should be regardless of the box quality. are you sure only the dmged RS and AT-AT boxes were on clearance? not sure about myer policy...in any case you are required to ask, i guess. and will be ymmv. -
if you were worried about historical accuracy here's one: i don't think samurais used shields ever. no orientals ever used shields. samurais carry 2 swords. one long katana and one shorter dagger. soldiers can wield a variety of weapons including halberds and polearms but don't think they ever used shields either. ninjas also use a variety of weapons including psi, shurikens, nunchuks, etc. but no one used shields.

ah got it. ymmv. have you ever return a christmas gift without receipt? i'm guessing maybe the other possibility might be the person bought a 7744 and returned this instead, under the guise of an official receipt? big w bought all its sets directly from TLC. and so by extension, can provide all of TLC's satisfaction guarantee. any opened, used set will be returned to TLC for credit or money back so no real need to check contents. when you get your new S@H shipment, check the return form. it will be the same level of service except big w (which is really the myer coles group, so that includes kmart and target as well) gets to buy at the special retailers' prices. -

i asked the lego rep about the indy jones sets (when i made my order on S@H) and he told me the jungle duel will be restock in feb. the rest of the crystal skull sets should return sometime january. so it was quite a relief for me coz i thought i had missed the boat. i thought no return without a proper receipt? in the us, only very selected stores accept returns without receipt... -
i did not see the possibilities of the power function pieces before and let the monster dino slip pass me. i think this new 4 channel rc should open up lots of possibilities. the receiver and the motors though should be separate pieces. don't think they are from a single piece as shown in the catalog. it's probably just how they illustrated it. i'll be getting one (or two) if they are cheap enough.

so what is your point exactly? of course i know a lightsaber cannot be reused as a lightsaber in space police theme. but that wasn't my point. my point was that licensed mold can be reused in other themes, which i have demonstrated. as i mentioned, what determines a new mold is how useful the new piece is or how popular the mf is. eg. kit fisto. i remember back in 06 when there was a poll going around the fan sites about the next mf they like to see. afaik, kit fisto top that list and voila!!! kit fisto in 07. kit fisto's head is quite unique and wont be reused in any other set but was popular enough to sell well on its own. hence tlc decides to make the new mold despite limited use elsewhere. for other parts, it will be determined by its usefulness like lightsaber hilt. i remember reading the interview of the IJ designer from the brickjournal. fans brought up the question of the new fertility idol mold and why such a single unique piece was created and he mentioned the new mold decision process. btw, it doesn't take a genius to know that. if a new mold is very costly to make it just make sense that the new piece need to bring enough profit for any company to make it. TLC is not like brickarms. if TLC starts charging $1-3 per piece, fans will freak out the world over. TLC's return per piece is closer to $0.50 or lower. so the mold has to generate enough set sales to justify the cost. since this is the 09 picture/rumor thread, to avoid going even more off-topic with the new mold discussion if you like to discuss this further, feel free to pm me.

http://wii.kombo.com/images/media/1769/leg...92208_13856.jpg i don't know the batman villains but this one looks like a firefly...am i right? if so, you have been 1/3 helpful!

thanks whung! that must be the jul-aug brickmaster special then.

it's the first set i have. and i still have it though is a lot worse shape than the reviewer's. i am actually quite surprised afols aren't tearing this set apart for not having enclosed cockpit or enclosed base. in fact, this set has more in common with the new space themes in that you need to IMAGINE an enclosed cockpit and enclosed base.

you are entitled to your opinion and he is entitled to his. there is no need to be pushy. if something is generic enough it can be reused. i have already demonstrated that. droid's heads (R2 design) have been reused countless times in other themes. while battle droid's heads have not been reused because the design is more unique. squidward's head is generic enough to be reused, eg bannister detailing, building facade, etc. the lack of a head stud, however, severely limit it's usefulness. but as i have shown, anakin's hair is just hair. so for nute's head - yes they can make one not because he is the only neimoidian (whatever that is... i don't know my sw trivia) but only when he is high in demand (like plo koon, kit fisto were made based on fan feedback) or if the designers see another use for the mold. as for me, i am always for more alien heads.

my lego city is large...need to dispatch that many mail vans! it's actually 4 mtts. one in picture 159 and 3 more in the box in picture 160. nah...i just buy them to keep misb. tbh, i could have gotten more bang for my bucks in the us. mtt was going for $50 tru black friday special you know.
-
oh really? how about this? i hope you own this set so u know what i am talking about. if not, try looking closer at the troll holding the banner.

i think your eyes are seeing things. i see a skeleton on a skeletal horse. and another black skeleton running down the mountains slightly above it.
-
well, the good thing is that you did. i wanted to buy the monster dino (mostly for the power function pieces) but it was too late. no need to check. i've been visiting target, tru, kmart, dj and myers and they still have the 08 stuff. nothing in yet. and nothing sexy in terms of d/c. argh....no...not the most expensive per piece count set!!!

i'm with you. i wouldn't mind jimmy neutron replacing the spongebob theme. but i'm no good when it comes to kiddy theme. i've been wrong about how well spongebob will sell. in terms of licensing though, i think a few of the key notes i have noticed from past successes and failures of the license themes are: 1. massive fan base 2. army building capability or many protagonists and antagonists to collect 3. looks great when legorized on that front, i would agree a disney license would work well as long as they don't do it in the 4+ scale but more in the system scale. the previous 2000 mickey mouse theme failed because of the single block minifigs. they gotta do it more like how they approached the SBSP line: special head mould and standard MF body and prints. yes, i think toy story (and by extension, toy story 2) would do really well. plenty of characters to make, massive fan base even if the show is almost 20 years old now, and the cartoonish CGI would fit well as lego pieces. however we all know how MB won the disney licensing rights and disney have been a great seller for MB (cars, the princesses line, etc). it's going to be hard for TLC to wrestle the license from MB. another good theme would be world of warcraft. massive fan base. they have also just released a third edition to huge sucess. the massive world, cities, vehicles, characters, mounts would make this another run away winner since there is no limit to the possible sets that TLC can make. the downside might be that the violence is too much for TLC to take. WOW is rated M right? not sure what other shows, movies, or chars would fit the 3 requirements? james bond maybe? not sure about the third point though. JB fans aren't collectors, and even fewer are lego fans.

yes, that is good to know. thanks! but in 3 days?? that is much faster than even express. i guess maybe DHL has nothing to ship these days. did you manage to combine your order? don't think i will be buying too many lego in the next few months though. i'm all out of moolah.
-
wow...this was the quickest shipment ever from aussie S@H. ordered around 29 or 30th and received today. all the way from billund, dk too. i normally receive S@H order from their germany warehouse. total order A$1250. some shots to tempt you guys! http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/godfrey/...ck/pict0158.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/godfrey/...ck/pict0159.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/godfrey/...ck/pict0160.jpg

i guess you don't know that the lightsaber blade and hilt have been used in other themes... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=577&in=S

plenty of time. anakin's hairpiece reused in agent. mutt's hairpiece - same mold. the skull piece from IJ, reused in pirates theme. harry potter hairpiece, reused plenty of time in city sets. droid's (r2 type) torso - reused countless times in various other sets. jedi robe: reused as cloak in castle or other sets. squidward's head is probably ordinary enough to be reused elsewhere. or maybe not.
-
they don't simply make a mold because it's very costly. it's most likely that the squidward head is being reused in some other theme. the space police maybe? it's a pity brickjournal isn't available for free these days. there were a lot of interviews done with lego designers which give us insights to their new molds and new sets process. on that note...i wonder when we can see the fertility statue from the IJ theme reused in some other sets.
