  1. that's a pretty cool base. thanks for the instructions, legofranks!
  2. couldn't agree more though i would say i like some customization not heavy. the more complete a set, the better. but if it's easy to change without having to wrack my brains then it's good. i do have a day job, so it's not like i want to come home and figure out how to moc something too much you know. i guess for space fans, if you like the police space crafts, then just follow the designs and change the colors or just don't apply the stickers (i assume this theme will be sticker heavy) for your own spacey world. if the black car spaceship is not to your taste, take it apart and use the parts for something else or ebay it.
  3. where was this? how many sets still left?
  4. it's not the visor that is the problem. the mf already has a visor. look carefully again. the helmet is the aviator cap, dude!
  5. i think you're jumping to conclusion too early. these are impulse sets. it's not like they can sell space ships in such small sets. i dont see a problem with robo dogs. why can't robodogs be in space? besides, even earlier space sets have space buggies. so i dont see any problem in adapting hover cars in space. i think they did mess up on the open air helmets. perhaps the MF was supposed to sit inside a craft somewhere. let's wait for more pics to emerge. afterall why have a crogenic tank if not for transporting prisoners in space. at least that's better than open air laser beam prison from SP1.
  6. i kinda like the tie advanced chibi-size from the DS playset. sort of reminds me of the classic 80s lego scale where every vehicle is small but enough to fit a mf. i'm hoping for a mon one in the DS scale and the rumored mini MF in the tie x1 scale. so i can fit the MF inside the mon one!
  7. i have my ways... you'll find out tomorrow on the website or in store. not really. i think given the condition of the economy, either stores give out larger discounts or they sell fewer items. would they rather achieve better sales figure but lower profit or lower sales and lower profit? only if all the stores are in colloboration would we not have any good sales. so me think more sales are a-coming. btw, the bigw "price mistake" is more of a "picture mistake" so no real bargain there unfortunately.
  8. kmart is having a 15% off all lego from tomorrow for a week. not for me though. i prefer to wait for 25% or 30% off.
  9. hmm, the castle sets are a little bit of a disappointment imo. the wagon is more like a chariot. and what respectable king drives a wagon/chariot himself? the best set is the drawbridge. the troll fortress doesn't look good. probably will need to moc your own. the mfs though are okay. the most surprisingly good sets would be the miners. look at that stone golem prototype! brick built too! the new rock monsters on steroids look good too.
  10. not a whole lot of new sets to buy anyway. 6 sw sets and some city sets. not really interested in the city sets, so just sw for me. :P hoping that tru, myer or dj will restock indy jones.
  11. i dont usually get baseplates since they are "expensive" to me. i have so far bought only 1 x-large bley baseplate. but i have bought bulk used lego from ebay and flea markets, which included baseplates. best way to get lego pieces imo. @ kimt: lol...that's funny. i have no space now so i break-down my sets and store the pieces in ziplog bags and the bags in 50/60L tubs.
  12. edit: oops...
  13. v19 torrent is put on clearance in kmart - $80. so is the magnaguard set -$65 (?). i can't quite remember. the v19 is well stocked. should drop to $50 or less if everyone put off on buying these for long enough. meanwhile, the 09 sw and city sets are showing up in kmart as well. so you have 3 places: tru, target and kmart to get them. nothing in dj or myer.
  14. of course! the problem is that TLG can't just sell SW minifigs or they run into violation of their licensing contract. (hasbro will kick up a fuss) most of us know that by now. it has been 10 years since lego SW is in production.
  15. pirates wont be widely available until 2nd half of 09. big w might get an early shipment around march/april. you'll need to order from S@H if you're desperate. haven't seen the barbie (that's what aussie call BBQ ) impulse set yet.
  16. it IS 5973, guys. it's hyperspeed pursuit because it's a chase: police chasing the robber(s). the other set is 5971: gold HEIST. look up heist in the dictionary. it means hold up. i know, i know...it's nuances like these which sort of hint to you what sets they are.
  17. how about green. we have nothing in green from SW theme in a long time. make commander gree, yoda and other green jedis and vehicles.
  18. same here in sydney. i think they should just cut the price in half like what they did in the uk.
  19. market research professionals? i have my share of experience, and most of the time they are just trying to peddle their ideas. most of the "research" done are skewed anyway. it's like stats. you can create it such that it's always in your favor. eg, if you are not no 1 in 08, try to broaden the range to like 05-07 or 02-08 until you end up with either most sales, most profitable or some other kind of measurement. i would seriously doubt the research done was scientific. eg, statement: "They wanted the heroes to be attacking the dinos, so they got redone as more aggressive sets and sold great." this implied that the focus group only played with the hunting and trapping set, not the attack and kill set. when you only seen one set, and were asked if you like it or if you like another "imaginary" set which is more violent - would you call that scientific? it's like asking us AFOLs if we like the new CW count dooku or would prefer one with a molded beard (without actual prototype)? of course the majority of AFOLs having seen the actual dooku but not any examples of the molded beard type would immediately want the later option, since the assumption is that it will be better. is it better? who knows...it was never created and the expectation is that it will be, so most would go with that.
  20. lots of sets tailored to the adult fans. lots of sets around the $100 mark for those on a budget. buildings? there's the green grocer and the cafe corner for $150. a little pricy but definitely worth the money. if you don't mind vehicles, you can try the UCS Ferrari F1 8157 for $90. if you like something a little more flashy, you can get the UCS batmobile for a song. not sure if they are available from retailers - you can try tuesday morning or big lot. or failing that, just order from bricklink. they are cheap now. or if you're a fan of star wars, you can also get general grevious UCS for like $45. good parts to price ratio. you'll be able to showcase after you built the set too! all the above are good as "one off" sets. build them, showcase them, and sell them if you don't like it. or break them down and use them as parts if it becomes a hobby for you.
  21. they always do this! my guess is kmart or david jones will be retailing DS or taj mahal then. ah...glad the lego rep didn't stoop me up. i still have 6 months to get them. my frantic cries before christmas was ill-founded, i guess.
  22. for the happy flyer sticker, i think she could use some boobs. currently she looks like a young girl. perhaps better outline her tank top. at the moment, it gave the illusion of being flat chested. or maybe creatively add two of these to the front of the torso.
  23. lego SW prices are 2:1 AUD:USD for the smaller sets. for larger sets the ratio is much lower. eg, the motorized AT-AT was 250:130, but the RGS was 180:120 and RAS was 100:60. it's kinda hard to guess the prices when you have such a large range of possible prices. taking into account the euro prices (currently assumed to be EUR180)and following recent trend, i would think A$230 would be closer to US$130 or US$150. i would have guess US$150 but saw more ppl hinting at US$130. perhaps they saw the retailer's catalog?
  24. i think that's just how TLC let fans down gently. seriously, batman is gone. but who knows...maybe he'll be back in 10 years time? are you going to hang around for that long?
  25. well, i think ppl are smart and very resilient. there will be creative ways to get around it. maybe it will mean reselling lego as adult toys rather than kid toys. eg, we might need to put disclaimers saying the lego we are selling are meant for adult use, not kids.
