Grumpy : power functions robot
jovel replied to jovel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the nice comments. It was indeed hard to put everything so close together. The left arm is the only place without any technic in it I made some extra pictures to show the inside: The XL motor drives the 24z from a 'old style' 4 long diff. One of the outputs from the diff leads to the top to move the head back- and forward, the other output leads to the botom to a adder/subtractor ( driving back- and forward ). The same goes for the medium motor in the front. One of the diff outputs leads to the top to make the head shake left and right, the other output leads to the adder/subtractor for turning. The upper medium motor is for controlling the claw. The lower medium motor is to raise and lower the arms. The eyebrows will move when the head goes back- and forward ( also a little while turning but not that much ). -
This is my power functions robot named Grumpy. Like other robots he has some basic functions like: -driving back-/forward -turning -lower and raise his arms -open and close his claw to pick things up But that wasen't enough for me. I wanted him to have some personality. To do that I added some head movements. He can shake his head left/right and move his neck back- and forward. While driving he always looks in the direction he's going. He can also move his eyebrows up and down. For all these functions only four motors where needed! More photo's on flickr.

LEGO Flight SImulator

Thanks for the comments! The main reason was that I run out of PF medium motors. It was a little tricky to make these fit, I needed to place the middle one upside down. When I started this MOC I tried something with angle connectors, but that turned out way to big. I'm quite happy with this solution myself as well. -

Great looking model! I also love the fact that it can be used as a GBC module. -
Black Dragon supercar
jovel replied to jovel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the nice comments. I already started making instructions, now I neeed to find some time to finish them.... Here is the link to MLcad file, that might be helpfull. These techniques I used quite alot, and yes, they where absolutely necessary ( the entire door section is build this way ). First the zooming/panning is just 'digital' and can be done with most video editors. For the rotation effects, I placed the model on a turntable ( I used a desk chair ), and put the camera on a tripod. I needed a perfectly white background so I could play with the zoom a little. To get that, I recorded everything outside for the best lightning conditions. -
I am glad to present you my supercar, Black Dragon. In the front it has an V8 engine which is under the hood that can be opened. For easier playability I added a hand of god ( HOG ) steering wheel. The steering wheel in the cabin works as well. The scissor door are powered by damped shocks, which will be activated after a little push. It also features a convertible rooftop, which can be operated at the back of the car. With the roof down, it's very easy to acces the 5+R gearbox.

multi output gearbox
jovel replied to Choops's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know how it's done in that set, but when saw this topic yesterday, I decide to try something myself. It uses a sliding wormgear to switch between the functions: -

Thanks for all the nice comments. About 20 times I think. So it looks like it's strong enough I also uploaded the SR 3d Builder file ( you can also open it with MLCad ). Link
