Liking the kids playground polybag, but what are they doing with these great vehicles sets, the helicopter transport, looks like a nice medical helicopter and would have been good on it's own, but no they decide it needs to be transported on a truck.....but look at it.....I'm getting tired of the lack of design that goes into the trailer for the truck, it's just like they ran out of parts and motivation. It was the same with the Jet transport last year. Why does it need a set of wheels at the front of the trailer? It's not exactly heavy haulage, it has to fly....makes the truck harder to turn as the wheels are fixed. They must think it adds some play value for the age group of the sets? but I don't understand it. Crane is ok as well, maybe a little oversized for my liking, but it's ok. And Iike the way they are adding a road plate with each set so you can build a city. The Sardine factory is a cool idea, maybe would have been better without the fire element of it.

BMW M for Most expensive Lego bike ever ;-) £175 and a sticker sheet, this is a shame, but the set looks ok, but I can't help but think £175 for a 2 wheel motorbike....

Does seem a massive floor to be promoting an Electric car without an electric motor, but there you go. How this is more than a €25 set is beyond me. But that's licencing for you.

And those 2 ses were branded "Racers" on their boxes, this is probably a first for a set branded "Technic" on the box. But I see due to the limited functions, Jim decided to classify it as Creator Expert in his review

Another polybag, great news. There is hope that Lego Technic magazine might be a regular publication as well if they are making more polybags. It's possible this might be one of the best sets of 2022 so far

Wow, the shear amount of work that has gone into this is no doubt impressive! The ongoing debate of what is Technic and what is not, I guess will never be finalised. For me and my collection, if it has the Technic logo on the box, it's Technic. This for me then excludes those racer sets you mention in the opening chapter that were built using a large number of Technic bricks, to me those are Racers, but unfortunately for my own person collection, it then includes some of the education sets which had a Technic Logo on the packaging. Examples like set 1030, 1031, 1034 etc. are Technic in my eyes. Other possible and interesting chapters in future might be able to include Retail/Marketing and Promotional materials related to the Technic brand. Anyway, great job and I'm looking forward to reading in detail. Also would love to know what the 8 books you found are relating to Technic, I know Lego themselves released 3 or 4 ideas books back in the day. Out of interest, what were the others? Paul

So nearly every Technic set in the past 5 years in the UK has dropped within 6 months of launch to 1/3rd off. The powers of Amazon, Smyths Toys (and Argos in the past) I think have pushed for the ability to discount the sets to boost sales. It's no different than the food environment, you see in the supermarket, where 1 week a pipe of pringles costs £3 and for the next 6 months they are half price at £1.50. It's like Lego truely see the RRP as being £300 for the CAT and for the first few months, if they can find people who are willing to part with £450, they will happily take it. It's only in recent years they have been giving sets to influencers to promote on AFOL sites and YouTube, so you have to wonder if the promo sets now being issued is to help push the early sales when the price is sky high. As a long term Technic collector, I also have the problem that I look at the size of the box, and I relate that to what I used to pay 10 - 20 years ago, but I apprecaite you now have to look at the electronic costs as well. Anyway, I'm in the happy to wait after a set is launched, and within 6 months snap it up at a reasonable price.

There was an episode of Counting Cars on the TV a couple of years ago where their paintshop sprayed a fan built car. Might have been someone from on the forum, I can't recall. I personally would not paint Lego, but if you have the skills, and don't mind writing off the bricks...

Yes, I'm sure originally it was a bit of kudos for these companies to have a set made by Lego, but now I'm thinking its more for profit. The relationship with Volvo does not appear to be so much royality based, for that brand link it seems more like Nordic companies working together. But Merc, Bugatti, Ford, etc. It's all profit. At least Lego are releasing the Ford Raptor around the same time for users to be able to recreate this scene,

I bet that puts the employee in breach of their contract with LEGO, I doubt it happens more than once or twice

Whilst the owl looks very good, it's not for me. I keep thinking as a lego collector myself, eventually they will release a set which peaks my interest. but another money saver here. I know there are a lot of harry potter fans, and they might buy this for the owl display piece. but I'm not sure how many people want the other filler stuff which is included here to boost the part count of the set and no doubt inflate the price?

I have every box, although at one point I stupidly went through the process of cutting the back of the box from my 80's sets....to save space. This is a mistake in life.....now they get flattened or they get stacked one inside another if they are not the type that came be flattened. They take up a lot of space in the loft!

Nice job, always check out your videos to see the functions in use. Bit of a shame they did not include another pneumatic cylinder on the lift function, shame they opted for a linerar actuator here. This really would have been a great set to launch a new lighting system to add to a set as an expansion kit. I do like the little addition of the 2 pulley wheels on the lift at the back of the truck, so you can run the lines around these to pull in different directions, just like in ice road rescue/highway through hell or whatever it's called with Jamie Davis towing. Only thing I cringed at was the placement of that hood/bonet sticker on the right hand side, I can see Sarial really dislikes applying them ;-)

Pretty sure toy regulations for a while now have required battery compartments to be secure, so kids cannot remove the battery without using a tool. Pure safety I thought. Not that when we grew up, we were harmed by opening our own battery compartments? I'm almost surprised that this was not a requirement from day 1 as Lego would always follow child safety rules.. But the design of the new hub. definitely has the ability for a lithium pack to be retrofitted in future. It may need removing and placing in an external battery charger for recharging which would be a pain.

Seeing the video with all the functions, this is a really stunning set, great old school technic functionality throughout, although I'm still amazed we have not seen a set yet to use up all those spare dumb battery boxes they must have left over from the ospray ;-)

So the good news is this is just a waiting game in the UK. You know full well Smyths or Amazon will knock a 3rd off the selling price within 6 - 9 months of launch (this seems to be their business model in the UK), so as long as you have patience, this will be a £185 set

The joke from the Smyths toys video is the bit at the end where is says "A real conversation starter" I can't imagine it will be the longest conversation.... Wheels looks a tiny bit small to me, maybe not, but just my thinking. Real shame we have had so many car/road vehicles this year, it's definately been a slow year.

For me, I'd far rather see them invest time and money into developing new products. Althought there is a nostalga to Cafe Corner and Market Street (both of which I own so I don't have the desire to see them rereleased), I think the new modulars are light years ahead of where they were 10 years ago, with great uses of new parts and detail. This would be a bit like asking Lego to re-release the old castles from the 80's, times have moved on and in most cases I'm sure eventually they will release a set which has for example that expensive black door from Cafe Corner or one very similar.

I think Lego Con was a con, I probably watch 25% of it, jumping parts, It just did not feel slick like watching an apple keynote. Interesting idea, but they could have done with actually having some decent new product announcements to shout about. Interesting to see if Lego think it was a success and whether they do another?

If I was Lego, I would purposely leak an image of a bulldozer, and then at the last minute, release a completely different model like the most impressive backhoe we have ever seen to throw the copycats off their game!
