I want to change it to have links to my (rather empty) youtube and blog pages. But if that's like unsolicited advertisement or something(as in against the rules), then I won't do so. I want to make sure if I am allowed to link to those sites before doing it.

James May to build life size lego house!
ziljin replied to allanp's topic in General LEGO Discussion
all those destroyed bricks will surely drive up prices(maybe not now but in long run considering half a million pounds worth of bricks were destroyed). =( -
The kingdom sets look great. Looks like I am going to have to spend hundreds of dollars on them.

I continue to make lego purchases despite the fact that I am having trouble with creating stuff. So far everything comes out generic and bland looking. I can make interesting small stuff, but whenever I try to make something larger than like a building (or even a room) it gets real ugly looking. Like I can build a chimney and fireplace I will be satisfied with it. But if I try to build the rest of the building, I can't think of any good details. Although it probably hurts me that I don't have much pieces in terms of windows and doors. I have mostly regular bricks.

Looks like a great set. Also its listed at 15USD at TRU and amazon.com I was hoping it would be price as the Star Wars battle packs.

Thanks for the answer. That's a nice looking armies. Well I missed out on most of the crownie sets, so I guess I will have to wait until the next castle line to come out before I can bulk up on minifigs. My crownies will be some small detachment with the golden knight as a general or something. I made the second one into a golden knight armor on generic gray minifig and left his torso/legs intact for a golden knight squire. He could be the general's right hand or something. So I turned my 2 golden knights into 3. I hope they release another set like the final joust. It has horses, armor, and weapons!. Not sure what the dwarves and orcs will be, assuming they don't continue the fantasy trend.

Question for you army builders. This mostly applies to the more recent themes, since the earlier ones were mostly clone soldiers. What ratio of cheap to expensive minifigs do you find yourself buying? By cheap, I mean the more available minifigs that are in multiple sets, while the more expensive ones are the ones that are only avilable in those expensive sets. Like for the Fantasy Era theme. A regular crownie would be the cheap one, the grey knight/king(you can use his torso as a noblemen/aristocrat warrior if you get multiples), and a golden knight one be the more expensive one. If I had the money I would buy at least 10 golden knights to have some sort of elite skirmishing party, or lots of money buy like 50+ to get a elite squadron of golden knights. But I only have 2. I am going to start saving up my money for the future castle set and try to get mass minifigs. I guess my crownies will consist of some small section of the future army. Or just of an army of a small area. For trolls and dwarves there isn't really a distinction, except trolls have the troll king/sorceress as the expensive ones.

What do people say about you being a AFOL
ziljin replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I tell other people. It doesn't really matter what they think, as long as they don't try to kill me as a result. If your friends judge you, maybe they aren't that great friends. It's not like you are doing something morally offensive. -
I actually *gasp* like short-lived themes!

well if you want a city or castle set. there will be tons of those. even if its oop. A set that is produced for say 2 years will have a decent amount produced therefore plenty of those floating around after it is oop. A set that is produced for say 6 months will only be around in limited numbers, therefore when its oop it will be much more difficult and expensive due to the smaller number of sets that were produced. -
does the drawbridge pull back? any interior details? overall its great. although the round tower and the roofing reminds me of Valenpeak.

anyone have experience with using bricks wider than 1x# for make buildings and structures? I am starting to accumulate quite a bit of those wider bricks and plates, but it just feels wierd building stuff with 2 bricks width. I find the 1x# bricks much more versatile. Aside from stacking wide bricks for terrain building, I wonder what other use do they have?
-
I just got Medieval Market Village. It seems like a great building has windows/doors, round bricks, lots of 1x# bricks/plates, slopes, and from other people's mocs tiles for modularity. I just ordered Creator Beach House and Creator Family Home. They have baseplates too. It seems that mostly bigger sets have lots of those pieces. And Creator. You think Green Grocer is worth it to try to "castle" it? Maybe I should get the Winter's Toy Shop too.

What is the longest you have kept a model built?
ziljin replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Road Rally V. Unknown year that I assembled it. But that was my last lego set from childhood Every other set I had as a childhood was dissembled. And prior to 2009, the Road Rally V was my most complete set (it's missing like 2 technic pieces I think). Well now I am 21, so I intend on taking better care of my lego sets. Of all my new sets, the Medieval Market Village is the only thing I have kept built. But I did stick the vendor sign onto the vendor stand. The rest will be kept as it is with no or super minor modifications. I hope they make more castle sets like that. -
the peeves head looks like someone sharpied it on.
-
This looks great. Going to replicate it in the future maybe.
-
well older sets are always overpriced. I would buy more from S@H if they told me the exact date its supposed to arrive. I once got an email that it was shipping a week after it arrived. =(. I have to guess when it arrives when buying from S@H. Well I have to use S@H for stuff like chess sets and battle packs.
-
I live in the USA. I use amazon.com Super free shipping on most orders over 25usd. It doesn't have exclusives (battle packs, chess sets, etc) or impulse sets though (well not from amazon, just from ripoff sellers). And they provide tracking numbers and have an estimated delivery date so you don't have to play the guessing game. They tell you when it ships, and when it should arrive. I would use S@H more if had more accurate ship/delivery date times.
-
Looks amazing, although I wish the pics were bigger.
-
Indeed. As a result, I have limited my lego purchases to the Castle theme. I might delve into City (wish they had a military theme to compliment city). But the rest I will mostly ignore since they keep on changing. So trying to get a nice collection would be difficult/expensive. I wanted to get more SPIII sets for the cool looking aliens, but it would be difficult to get more of them in future (like a big gang of aliens having shoot outs with the space police/each other/etc)
-
Well they don't give tracking numbers when ordering from their online store. I don't feel like ordering from S@H anymore.
-
Definitely a mustache, but it could be a mouth on a wrinkly old face.

Best and Worst Set: 2009 Edition
ziljin replied to Legoliner Pilot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Best set: Medieval Market Village. Worst set: I don't know. I like all of them really. But probably one of the smaller sets that you don't get much. of all the sets I bought, I would say Gold Heist is the worst. Frenzy is expected to rob a armored spacecraft with a space scooter with a machine gun that's aimed at the back. That means he can only fire by flying away from the ship. While the ship has like 6 missiles aimed forward. Then again the spacecraft doesn't even have side armor, for the cargo or the pilot. Which begs to wonder, how does he breathe without an oxygen tank?
