Actually, I believe BrickTracks offers all of Shupp's wheels that are on shapeways for less, and unlike shapeways, Shupp gets a portion of the sale price. Also, I THINK BrickTracks offers the largest selection of non-standard wheel sizes.

Is there any chance you could hang it off of the master index instead of giving it another pinned thread? BTW, I really liked the MOC index when it was live, but that had to have been a huge amount of work to manage it. I also like the fact that the 4 wide stuff comes up in the main forum. What should someone do now with their 4 wide creation? Post to the new thread? Post to the forum? Both? Here's a thought, why not move the 4 wide page to the master index, have a nice opening post by one of the current 4-wide builders, keep the forum open for self posts but with guidelines that the posts should consist of only two things: a representative photo and a link to a thread in the main train tech forum. That way a given MOC can have lots of discussion in its own thread without clogging up the index. Here's another thought, make it "under 6 wide", so the occasional 1 & 2 wide builds would also fall in there. Here's yet another thought, do something similar for the various categories listed under the "Pictorial MOC Index" It could become something like the Official Lego sets made in LDraw. (but please keep the current Pictorial MOC Index unchanged for its historical value)

The locomotive and vignette both look great

This is some great work! 4 wide is definitely harder than 6. Your trains are stunning at any size. That would be cool to see so many different builders' 4 wide in the same spot

MOC: Santa Fe Super Chief EMD F7 A-B-A (4-Wide)
zephyr1934 replied to CMF-1138's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That is simply stunning. You did an unbelievable job conquering a very difficult challenge. I attempted a 4 wide F7 and gave up (you could tell what I was aiming for but that was as close as I could get). -
Modifying official Lego 6-wide trains to 7 or 8 wide
zephyr1934 replied to Rjskow's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I would agree that simply up-sizing existing models would not fully capture the strengths of 8 wide unless you did a complete rebuild. If you are a big fan of the look of a given set definitely go for it. If you are just thinking you would like 8 wide trains for the detail, given the amount of work to do it well you might be better off just heading into MOCs of your favorite real trains. -
That monster is insane! Amazing work, and unbelievable that it can do R40, so equally amazing engineering. Now you just need 100 coal cars to shove up the grade (grin)

That's pretty neat. I wonder if you could build some sort of retarder system for the downhill segment, or maybe bank the curves. But either of these solutions would likely turn it into a one way route.

You did a great job capturing the prototype! As for the number on the front, I think the red is fine but the size is too large. Maybe make it 3 or 4 mm tall?

Oh, I wasn't thinking of them giving you any useful info on how to make it work. I was thinking they might be able to replace it. I've had a couple of occurrences where they sent a replacement part with no questions asked (one was a 9v train motor, but that was 15 yrs ago). I think I heard that for the expensive bits like a hub that they will still send out replacement parts but want you to send in the defective one, but I do not know first hand and they are always changing. My info might be wrong, but if you haven't done so already, for a $50 part it is worth a call to try.

Contact Lego customer service, they SHOULD offer support for this sort of thing.

That's coming a long nicely

Nice work (though I feel sorry for the crew who are forced to lubricate the locomotive while at speed)

LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
zephyr1934 replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Don't get me wrong, it is fantastic an AFOL train station is finally getting some traction and this build has great details. My concern about the track spacing is two fold. If I were to MOC my on station (even with inspiration from this build) I'd do it from scratch rather than parting out 2-3 copies of a limited edition set. It is really the non-train heads or potential future train heads that I am thinking about though. Step 1: "Hey, I bought this cool station to go with my modular buildings!" Step 2: "Now that I have this station, maybe I'll buy a train to complete the station in my modular build space." Step 3: "Now that I have a second train I could use a switch." Step 4: "Doh! That's why I don't want to waste my $ on trains." Thinking about functionality with other modular buildings, ideally all of the train tracks have to be more than one BP back so that trains can pass behind the normal modular standard, which suggests a single platform for a 1.5 deep station, perhaps with platform extensions so that the model forms a "T" shape. But that design is completely different than this build. So I can see why it is showing up in the BL exclusives rather than as a Lego IDEAS set. It has great features, the folks who are buying off of the BL exclusives are smart enough about Lego building so they won't be surprised by the track geometry and will know how to fix it if they plan to run trains through the station. -
Does this three axle truck work well through R40 curves?

I'm not trying to discourage you from participating (and posting about your tutorial/instruction videos), rather, you seem to have some neat ideas and I'm sure you could bring great insights to other threads in this forum too.

LEGO Ideas Comes Through - The Train Station: Studgate
zephyr1934 replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It is still unfortunate that the first prospective train station aimed at AFOLs is not even compatible with the standard track geometry. So that means you either have to completely rebuild it, go through some serious track contortions, or not use your full station. -

This is brilliant and inspirational, great job! -
While he does seem to do nice work, it would also be nice if brick-builds hung out here in the forums and contributed something more than just, "see my latest video"

That is hilarious... ... and that exponentially more so. Very interesting stuff.
