[MOC] Imperial Cargo Shuttle Zeta-class SW 0608 "Rogue One"
tomacwhite replied to lpglego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Love your model, it looks great and matches the design of the one in the film really well.. After seeing Rogue One, I excitedly went to Lego's website to go and buy the set for this... to discover there wasn't one. Odd as it's got such a unique design.- 30 replies

Lego Technic 2h 2013
tomacwhite replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I wonder if the outriggers/stabilisers on the Crane come out and lower by motor, or if you have to finish them off manually like the Crane Truck. Either way, both of the large sets looks great.- 902 replies

1984 Technic Booklet
tomacwhite replied to chorlton's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow thanks!! I remember that booklet like it was yesterday too. I used to love the square-shaped normal Lego catalogues too, especially with all the old cool electric train stuff. Super rad! -

Do we know what the Logging Trucks B-Model is yet? -
The image has gone but there is a rough translation now available: With this sturdy car to get everywhere. Give to the toughest terrain and try the realistic four-wheel suspension, which handles all inequalities. Open the hood and check the moving pistons. The car has opening doors and trunk. It can be converted to a modified off-roader. Suspension V6 or V8 engine Doors, hood/bonnet and Tailgate open Oops just realised this has been posted already...

Models for 2H of 2011
tomacwhite replied to menad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks awesome! I wonder if the turntable for the crane will be motorised? -
Just got another email from Lego UK saying the new part wont be ready until October, and it will be a new Linear Actuator part specifically for lifting heavy items such as the arm on 8043. I was offered a £10 credit if I waited for the part, or I could get a refund. Obviously this is a mail going out to all buyers of the model because mine has already been sent back.

Slewing Incredibly slow and a loud draining sound from the motor as it struggles to rotate. Movement is slow Left track Works OK Right track Incredibly slow and laggy, with a draining sound from the motor Main arm (dual actuators) Raising: So slow it virtually doesn't move. You have to help it with your hand, then it works perfectly. Lowering: Works OK Central arm Raising: Again, incredibly slow with a loud draining noise coming from the motor as it struggles to lift the arm Lowering: OK Bucket Fine in both directions Notes: - If I remove the connecting axles from the linear actuators they spin very quickly with no problems whatsoever. No draining noises - If I hold the Excavator from the ground or upside down and operate the tracks, they work perfectly with no lag or drain from the motors.

Mine is all taken apart and boxed up ready to be shipping. I felt sad because I remembered how much I enjoyed building the model, but there you go. One thing I did notice was that quite a few axles had white powder on them which looked like plastic dust. Perhaps grinding transmissions was the source of the problems for 8043? Who knows. I'll buy it again once its reissued and it will then be worth the money. For now, it's not.

Could they put an XL motor in for the Main Arm lifting, and use that for slewing the superstructure? It would require more complex gearing, but its possible surely? Because having one M Motor for one track and one XL for the other track would not be good for balance. Unless 2x XL Motors and 2 M Motors? 1x XL for Main Arm, 1XL for Boom, then Left and Right track use an XL motor each. Slewing might not be balanced then though for keeping it still with tracks spinning 360 degrees under it.
