Old sets after the introduction of new sets
Destroydacre replied to Enigma-85's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The replies are pretty spot on. I'd focus on the sets released in 2008 first because those will likely stop being produced before most of the 2009 sets. The 2010 sets will be around for quite awhile so don't even worry about those until you get all the 2008 and 2009 sets that you want. -
I read on brickset about a week ago that Target was getting some mini sets for the holidays. I believe in addition to the Torrent and the Tie Fighter they were supposed to carry Grievous' starfighter as well. I'm not sure if this has been posted here before, but if it has they'll just merge this in with the topic I'd imagine.

Missing pieces from lego sets
Destroydacre replied to Lego Wargammer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've generally had one set per year for the last 10 years or so that had a missing/wrong piece. These have ranged from a missing cape or missing string to a 1x2x2 panel missing but the set had an extra pair of legs. It's not a big deal, Lego has always replaced the missing/erroneous piece. One thing I have noticed with more regularity recently is that a lot of sets have extra pieces that don't belong. -
I just got this set several weeks ago, and like others have stated, even the reviews don't do this set justice. It's a brilliant set, honestly one of my favorites. And you can still find sealed ones of these on ebay for roughly retail price. It's kind of surprising considering that most of the other 2007 sets have shot up in value considerably. Of note, my Republic Cruiser came with the wrong head. I contacted Lego and they sent me the correct Qui-Gon head despite the fact this set hasn't been produced for nearly a year according to brickset. Lego's customer service really is second to none.

Strange pod found - maybe of alien origin?
Destroydacre replied to CopMike's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Very amusing film. I'll have to check this out later when I have more time. -
What game are we playing at the moment?
Destroydacre replied to Mr Hobbles's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Going somewhat old school and playing Jedi Knight on the computer lately. Before that I finished Mass Effect which was actually a pretty sweet game. Even better is that I only have to wait a few months for the sequel to come out rather than over two years for the people who bought it when it was released. -

What is the longest you have kept a model built?
Destroydacre replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is a very interesting question. Most of my early sets got taken apart at some point, although most sets that I have purchased are put together now (most of my MOCs come from pieces ordered elsewhere). The first set that I know never got taken apart would be 6268 Renegade Runner from 1994, so at least 15 years. It's possible that I have had sets put together longer, but I can't remember for sure. -
UCS Millenium Falcon is being discontinued!
Destroydacre replied to Darth Legolas's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What this leads me to believe more than anything else is that Lego wasn't selling very many of this set so they figured they should stop producing them if they won't sell them. Judging by the email posted, it sounds like they just stopped making the set. Doesn't mean it's gone, so until they actually sell out the sets they have left, you should still be able to pick this one up. Who knows how many are left, it may take them months to actually sell out. And if the sets last long enough you may even see this go on sale at some point in the future as well. -
Why do Star Wars fans hate Star Trek so much?
Destroydacre replied to liquidcross's topic in Community
I like both as well. The Star Wars films are some of my favorite movies, and TNG may be my favorite television series. Although TOS is pretty good too. And Star Trek has made some very good films as well. Star Wars and Star Trek don't have to be mutually exclusive. -
I went with Forbidden Cove. I don't have Enchanted Island, so I couldn't choose it and Forbidden Cove is my favorite out of all the rest.

Both sets have charming features, but both also lack in certain areas. Like most have said, the RR lacks an essential element in the wheel. Part of the hull and the rudder are also blue, a curious choice for color. The color scheme of the CC has actually grown on me over the years. It has the wheel, but it also has a lance that is connected to the rudder, which defeats the purpose of having the wheel. The set does look somewhat incomplete when you see the CC and the RR side by side. The RR has 4 figs, including Capt Ironhook, while the CC only has 3. But the CC does have a wench, which was a hard figure to come by. I believe the CC was the 2nd cheapest set to ever include a wench. I'd probably have to give my vote to the RR, but the CC is still a pretty cool set.

I've decided to make my room (41) a tactical and weapons control center including a turbolift into the room.

I'll take room 41. I'll let you know what I'm going to build after I've had a little more time to think about it, but it will probably be a control section or something else bridge related.

"Where The Wild Things Are"
Destroydacre replied to General Armendariz's topic in Culture & Multimedia
That's exactly the first thing I thought when I saw the preview for this film. I know several people who want to go see it just because of the book. I won't go see it and I'm honestly surprised that no one has made a movie of this yet. It's gonna make a ton of money regardless of whether or not the movie is any good. -
Obviously accuracy is nice, but to be honest I prefer playability as I plan to give all my Lego sets to my kids some day. The only sets that I want to be extremely accurate are UCS. I mean yeah the set has to look something like what it's modeled after, but if you sacrifice some of that accuracy for a few extra features, that's cool in my book.

Those are awesome MOCs! The last 2 make me want to pull out my old X-wing and Tie Fighter CDs.

How many Brick Separators do you own?
Destroydacre replied to Big Cam's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've had a dark grey one for about 17 years now. It's definitely worn, but it still works fine and it's the only one I have. I really can't think of any instance where you would need more than one at the same time. I've never had problems locating mine either, I always keep it in the same place. Every Lego collector should have one though, imo. -
While true, if you read up on Boba Fett, most of his scars and disfiguration came from when he was in the Sarlaac. I don't know from what point in time that drawing is supposed to be, but you could make the argument that it's Boba's appearance after escaping from the Sarlaac. If that's true then you could have a Boba Fett with a regular clone face as long as the moment in time predates ROTJ.

For some reason a lot of the 2007 sets have gone way up in price compared to their retail values in a short period of time. I expect that from the older sets, but it's pretty surprising to me for sets that have only been off shelves for a couple years now at most. Very nice review btw!

The three SW sets you'd like TLG to release
Destroydacre replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Star Wars
In sticking with the EU theme, I think a Flurry model would be pretty sweet. A Z-95 Headhunter or a R-22 Spearhead would be awesome too. The number one set that I'd still like to see though would be a Lucrehulk class Droid Control Ship. I realize it would be a pretty difficult set to create and it would likely have to be a UCS set, but it would be pretty incredible looking. -
I did a search for this topic and didn't come up with anything so if this has been discussed before, I apologize. But I was curious about some of the limited edition sets that Lego has released the last few years. I'm sure many of you have noticed that various sets have had "Limited Edition" prominently printed on the box. But what exactly does this mean? One thing I've noticed is that TRU seems to be the only non Lego store that carries the limited edition sets. But is that the only difference? Do the limited edition sets have smaller shelf lives than regular sets? The name would seem to indicate that, but I don't know if that's actually true. If anyone could clarify this at all, I would really appreciate it!

I received the 7665 Republic Cruiser yesterday and finally had a chance to put it together. What an amazing set. There's 2 reviews of it in the Star Wars forum, but even those don't do it justice after you've seen it in person. It's so much bigger than it looks in the reviews. Incredible set.

Clarification and discussion of price ranting
Destroydacre replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm not sure what it's like for other countries, but in the United States, the higher prices isn't something new. I think we were kind of spoiled with the $1 for 10 pieces or so that we got for quite a few years. I'm honestly not sure how Lego decides on their prices, it would honestly make more sense to base prices on weight rather than number of pieces, so you're actually paying for the amount of plastic that was molded. But like I said, I don't know if that's how they determine pricing. If you look back at sets in the catalogs from the mid 90's in the US, it was common for $50 sets to have 300 pieces, $100 sets have 600 pieces etc. It was only about the time that Star Wars came around that prices started dropping. Take the Century Skyway for example. First released in 1994 with 850 pieces that set sold for $109. The remake, sold in 2004, had 860 pieces and retailed for $90. I've read that Lego made some changes around the turn of the century, so that may have contributed to the lower prices I'm not sure, but like I said, the prices that we are seeing now are comparable to what they were in the mid to late 90's. Sure it's nice to have cheaper prices, but it's just something we have to deal with. Complaining about higher prices won't change them. -
Review: 6190 Shark's Crystal Cave
Destroydacre replied to GriZzliQ's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This set was always one of my favorites of the aquazone line. This review sure does bring back memories. I always used the center cabin as a prison cell for captive hydronauts. The price is pretty steep $50 for less than 300 pieces, but Lego was more expensive back in the mid 90's comparatively. Lots of unique pieces as was stated above. Great review!
