What would you pay extra for the box
Brick Miner replied to Bonaparte's topic in General LEGO Discussion
that is exactly what i am tring to say *y* *y* *y* LEGOs are a form of new post-modern (contemporary ???) art... the boxart is included in that too... one reason i "do-up" my MOC to look like official LEGO boxart... it completes the "artform" X-D - BrickMiner -
i am looking for a couple really rare/old items in a very strick "new" or "near new" condition. here they are: bricks: 1x16 brown (x8) doors: 1x4x5 white door (right) w/ trans clear glass (x2) 1x4x5 blue door (left) w/ trans clear glass (x2) minifig, heads: brown w/ lando calrissian pattern (x1) windows: 1x4x5 blue window frame w/ removable glass (any color glass, don't really need it) (x4) if you had any of those, i would also be interested in adding any of these: containers: 2x3x2 light gray cupboard (x2) minifig, neckwear: blue bandana (x4) there is other stuff too, but that first batch is priority ;-) - BrickMiner

What would you pay extra for the box
Brick Miner replied to Bonaparte's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i take this thread as a type of gauge, to see how the population of AFOL feels, this is a good topic ;-) ... not like bonapart was looking for guidance :-D -------------------------------------------------- for me, the box is everything... for example, i paid about 25 USD for a GOLD CITY JUNCTION 6765 without box, but instructions. that is about all i would pay, maybe 30. however, i also paid 175 USD for a SIMB copy (actually twice, 200 for the second). i am a collector, not just a builder... i think that is the main difference. the one for 25 was just for parting-out and using in MOCs (in essence, "playing with"). the others are displayed on a shelf, similar to artwork on a wall. to me, the boxart is a great artform all itself... and deserves to be presented and respected in the same fashion the bricks on the inside... especially when that box is well preserved. -------------------------------------------------- there is the same type of two sided discussion in the comic book industry as well... there is a service that will condition grade a comic, then encase it in a hard plastic "shell". this gives the comic book more liquidity in the secondary market, because of the standardized grading system of the service, and because the comic book is then protected... comic books that have received this service generally realized prices 4 or 5 times that of an upgraded book, even in the same condition. however, there are a ton of people that are against this process of grading and encasing books. those people argue that comic books are to be read. this is the same thing here... why pay more for the box, these are toys, they are to be played with... the box is just there to protect the item during shipping, and then to help sell it once on the shelf at the store... basically, its an advertisement ??? well, because there are people who collect, and those people want copies that are a prefect representation of the product... unbeautified by retail price labels and bends or tears. -------------------------------------------------- however, if you are talking about buying vintage sets that are already opened vs. sets that are already opened but without the box, id say there is little difference. and often the market reflects this, as opened sets with and without box sell for about the same. - BrickMiner -
i could see this... as LEGO has really stepped up there designs this year. many vintage collectors could be finding interest in the new products. i actually fit this category, as im interested in getting into town (these 2007 sets will be my first in 15 years !!!).more money on new stuff equals less money to "jack-up" old stuff... if vintage prices continue to decrease, we know LEGO is doing a good job ;-) -------------------------------------------------- as for WW price (only genre i track regularly)... its hard to say what has happened to the market in 2007, as they never show up anymore ?!?!?! - BrickMiner

:-D :-D ya, i guess all new-grey is a horrible thing to do to a set :-D its just that MTT is really nice... id say its one of the nicest LEGO sets ever, even better than the CC 8-

How Well Do You Like the Ninja Theme?
Brick Miner replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
resurrecting a thread is fine in my opinion, especially if the thread existed before the member joined, and they have something to add to the discussion... which i think zouave did fine."bumping" a thread is something entirely different... an example of this would be someone trying to get his/her MOC thread back on the main page of the forum for the sake of more exposure. especially when its current discussion is clearly over. and besides, the ninja theme could use more discussion !!! im sure a lot of the newer members missed this thread the first time around ;-) also, the opinion poll "which is better castle or pirates" thread in the pirate from has been resurrected many times... this thread could be considered in a similar manner ??? - BM -
i think im going to be looking to accessorize my CC... and these new city sets are really intriguing me at the moment. i love 7991 the orange garbage truck, and 7998 the green freight truck... man, LEGO is doing an awesome job in all themes this year. im going to expand my interest into either city or SW... which one is it going to be *wacko* in any case, i don't follow these city threads as much as i should have been... have i missed the pricing for the two above mentioned sets ??? in USD of course ;-) - BM

jipay posted an custom avatar tutorial in the pirate forum... that is pretty much the same tutorial i would make.the only thing not covered is making custom backgrounds that match LEGO box art, in which a complete PS and AI users guide would be my tutorial :-D ;-) no seriously, each background would be so different that a unique tutorial would be needed for each one !!! different techniques would be applied, etc... in fact, it's something that i wouldn't even know how to put into a tutorial, because i wouldn't know how to do it myself, until i had done it. make sense ??? for example, different processes were used to create the "Royal Knights" background of the History & Adventure Forum banner, that were used to my the "World City" look of the Train & Town Forum banner. i didn't know what i was going to do when i started out, i just had to experiment with a couple different things ;-) NOTE: The Brickster uses non-LEGO box art for his digital backgrounds... you could make something like that with only jipay's tutuorial. - BrickMiner

10190 A new LEGO Factory Exclusive!
Brick Miner replied to legomilk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
actually, i remember reading it from a couple of others... i am curious to the appeal of this set over CC, honest and whole-heartedly. well, i guess we will have to see the pieces list and larger images... but i agree it does have that going for it, unlike the hobby train.i hope LEGO acknowledges this asset for further "hobby" releases. -------------------------------------------------- my admin status is limited to skin design only ;-) im not a global admin. -
BrickLink slow ??? never heard of that ??? its faster than brickset on any computer i have used ??? thats strange.anyway, i would suggest contacting morten sonne in this thread... see what he offers. that could be your value... afterall, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay ;-) - BM

Brick Miner replied to legomilk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
we already brought that up and discussed it on the previous page ;-) - BM -
thanks Alex... ya, my artwork is a mix of urban/cartoony comic book illustrations. and similar to my artwork, my LEGO MOCs are not to be taken too serious and realistic too !!! i like them with a little more fun and fantasy.--------------------------------------------------

hey morten... if i had any WW sets for sale, id have them listed in by BL store. unfortunately, i don't have any extras anymore... a while back i had a MISB (Mint in Sealed Box) collection i was selling in an attempt to acquire a SIMB (Sealed in Mint Box) collection, i.e. no retail price stickers and very minimal (to no) shelfwear. i have gotten rid of all my boxes in lower grade condition though. these sets are really hard to find sealed anymore, even two years ago they were easier to find... my collection was particularly hard to complete because i was looking for the North American versions of the sets... which are particularly hard to find sealed, and really hard to find in a "near-mint" box... im actually still looking for a pristine copy of 6769 (the larger boxes are harder to keep nice). however, there are plenty of european versions listed on BL, currently. if you have the money you should be able to find all of the ones you mentioned there. -------------------------------------------------- BTW, im glad the theme has caught your eye though ;-) its a very well conceptualized theme, hope to see you around the H&A forum ;-) - BrickMiner

Brick Miner replied to legomilk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
wow, im really surprised to be reading this... i am super curious why.to me it is a far inferior model. i mean, i love the way it is customizable... that is a great concept to included all these customizable options in one release... but i think the design fell short after that. - BrickMiner -
Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?
Brick Miner replied to Norrington's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i have always taken the bricktestament as a mockery of parts of the bible... it seems to me the illustrated tales focus on the more out-dated items, making them seem out of context at times. there were several occasions where i was like, "it says that in the bible !!!???!!!???" i mean, if the goal was to teach the message of christianity, one would expect to see the same ole stories and messages taught in "sunday school". - BrickMiner -
:-D :-D :-D what your talking about is my 3/4 template ;-)im not as happy with my profile and headshots, so i use the 3/4 the most... and it looks like that is all the appears here. good observation !!! - BrickMiner

good point,... and that stupid "300" video is *wacko* - BrickMiner -
not sure what kinda of discussion we are looking for here... but if anyone has photoshop questions, i could be some help... i usually spend a couple hours out of my day in the program... though i spend more time in adobe illustrator. in my professional career, i usually only use photoshop to color my line art... while i use adobe illustrator to draw. however, for LEGOs i use photoshop for all my MOC images... gunslingers saloon ghost town's haunted pass stagecoach hold-up as for the graphics here on eurobricks,... i mainly used illustrator, with a little photoshop in the banners (but a lot of illustrator). while i like photoshop a bunch, it ales in comparison to illustrator ;-) however, the two aren't really comparable, as each has a specific purpose in creating digital images... its just i love to use illustrator. as for the AFOL hobby, i love presentation, and would love to see more MOCs finished with some photoshop backgrounds/settings, etc. - Brick Miner
-
actually, i think this is the direction the AFOL hobby has been in for quite some time... 1) thousand piece, 2) minifig scale, 3) modular, 4) replication building. the builders at classic-castle are a tribute to that.sure, i would like to see the hobby explore the CC scale, but i would also certainly like to see a continued interest in conceptual theme building. -------------------------------------------------- as for the CC/modular line, i would love to see some more sets, especially exploring some different architectural stylings... only this "market street" one doesn't do it for me. however, the thumbnails are a bit too small to make a justified critique ;-) - BrickMiner
