  1. i'll have to wait for larger pics (can't tell anything from those little shots), but this looks far less impressive than the CC... unless there are some unique pieces i don't think i will buy this one, unless to MOC a CC expansion with it. but i don't even have a CC yet !!! -------------------------------------------------- one thing i can say is that im glad they are included some more unique colors in the "factory" line, than was in that hobby train... which i think didn't come together well at all. - BrickMiner
  2. i defintely will B !!! its actually probably done, but i have some other MOCs i want to photograph first... so i haven't even considered if the current design is my final or not. is still have the train and train station to photograph first anyway (which im wrapping up photos for now ;-) ).believe it or not, my version of the snake oil pedder is actually less fanciful than yours... - BrickMiner
  3. i think i like Brickster's better... the awkwardness is the charm of the wagon... it looks the way it does to give character to the model... almost as if the wagon has a personality all-it-own.though, as l2k pointed out, i do think that would be a bit much for a single horse to pull. -------------------------------------------------- definitely, that is why i like this creation so much... the concept behind it.in fact, i think this is my favorite piece you have done, B... right behind the whispering windmill ;-) - BrickMiner
  4. ok, ya i was just wondering... cause i know we have curiously been on the same page, before even knowing each other was on it... i remember this happened with interest in the ninja theme too ;-) yes, my doc's snake oil was based on this guy and his personal coach... and your right, the snake oil salesmen have been a part of LEGO for quite some time now... the little "doc holliday's snake oil" wagon in the center was my first inspiration. - BrickMiner
  5. very nice B... as i said in the Wizard contest thread, you have beat me to (what i though was) an original idea again !!! i have never seen a snake oil peddler MOC before... and this one is great. once again, i love concept of this one... that you incorporated fantasy into a traditional western concept: the snake oil peddler. this bend in history would make a great addition to the ghost town / grave stone sub-theme. the awkward, top-heavy, look of the wagon itself is quite convincing in portraying a workshop-on-wheels. like its the precursor to the modern day RVs/camper... the chimney on top adds to this feeling. the only thing im not quite sold on is the green 1x1 round bricks... maybe dark orange would look better ??? -------------------------------------------------- just to satisfy my curiousity... did you get the inspiration for this after reading my post last week here... Ideas for sets (Wild West) - Brick Miner
  6. very nice B !!! i've never seen a snake oil peddler MOC before... seems you have beat me once again to (what i thought was) an original idea.- Brick Miner
  7. ok, the skins are fixed, sorry for the temp down-time :-$ - BrickMiner
  8. hey guys... i apologize for the custom skins (history, town and theater) not displaying their graphics correctly. i just switched all my files to a new server, and am not sure why the graphics would require new links, because the domains should have remained the same... however, what we are seeing is obviously not correct... so its gonna be tomorrow before i can trouble-shoot the problem... and get the files to display.again, my apologies, if i knew this was going to be an issue, i would have tried to prevent it... but as it stands, i will do my best to correct it. until then, select a non-custom skin for the history, town, and theater forums to display all the standard buttons. i'll keep everyone updated - BM
  9. for some reason a LEGO world without minifigs musters no interest for me :-D these old bricks and HO scale stuff doesn't seem to have the same life and expression...i guess because it's not the LEGO i know and love. none-the-less, interesting information you have LEGO HISTORIAN... and it is great that the history of LEGO is being remembered and has been captured... i would like to see this type of project continue into the modern (and more captivating ;-) )era LEGOs... and continue all the way through into the AFOL hobby aspect of the toy... i guess, in a way, we are writing some of that "to-be" history today, here on EB X-D kinda of a cool thought. - BrickMiner
  10. hmmm... there is the school of thought geared at getting new members to join. i have read some discussion about this in the pirate forum (contacting ebay-purchasers, advertising, etc...). personally, i think i fall into this field of thinking... this is actual an interesting topic, and something to think about in reference to the growth of our (any ???) community. - BrickMiner
  11. dark red is a strange color... it looks good next to other colors or in a combination of colors, but had you ever looked at the dark red all by itself ??? its really strange. similar LEGO's standard red its very shallow, surprisingly. :-D we were once talking about the ugliest big piece ever (in reference to <insert that tiresome argument> pieces)... i proposed we have a discussion of the oddest shaped pieces, i thought that would be a much more fun discussion, and less heated ;-) these were my canadits: - BrickMiner
  12. i see this thread has had something of a second life... wow, that's a combination i wouldn't have expected... an actor and a LEGO enthusiast !!! very interesting, hinckley ;-) - BrickMiner
  13. dark blue is another great color, i agree... -------------------------------------------------- BTW, i think the LEGO standard red is actually a pretty poor choice. its far too shallow of a color... i wish that LEGO would have chosen a slightly richer hue for its standard red. - BM
  14. :-D im at 1002 now !!!-------------------------------------------------- gottcha... i'll have to take a look at that sometime.-------------------------------------------------- also, i don't want this thread to be over... so, if anyone else has experimented with either screen or print LEGO color matching please contribute... id love the mystery to be unraveled in its entirety. - BM
  15. i think that is the pioneers we spoke of... at least thet is the common people i would like to see.ranches and barnes wouldn't really add much to the theme in my opinion. - BM
  16. yes, of course... though, is this game a screen game or physical game ???because im not really concerned with monitor output (as you will be if this is a computer-type game) i didn't included any of the RBG color values that you will need... however, if you do want to try my research/chart above, i would just take the peeron chart and match the names to my list above... then just use the corresponding RBG values in the peeron chart. anyway, i hope that helps. - BrickMiner
  17. good call guys... light tan is a great color, i think it works best in town buildings with color accents as Brickster has mentioned. i remember the wayne mannor MOC posted here on EB a while ago... it used light tan and light gray or light bluish gray, and looked first class 8-
  18. this is kind of a fun thought i had while checking out this thread about the color purple... http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=9142 your favorite color could be one that you use a lot of,... or it could be one that you would like to incorporate more of in your MOCs or LEGO set-ups... or it could be more of an abstract question, and just refer to which color suites your liking, i.e. makes you feel happy or moves you in some other way. for me the answer is a little more aesthetic,... i like the color BL refers to as "dark orange" it's rich on full and has a good amount of saturation to it. though its use doesn't come up as much as i would like. though, it's going to make an appearance in my train station MOC for sure. - BrickMiner
  19. talk about taking all the fun out of it :-P ;-) besides, wizards aren
  20. im thinking a lot of these new elements from the 2007 castle theme are going to be great for grave stone or any ghost town. the skeleton horses come to mind first *skull* an that scared minifig face could be incorporated well.this maybe the first line LEGO has come out with that im actually going to buy just for parts for the ghost town theme... besides parting-out official western sets of course ;-) - BrickMiner
  21. with my MOCs i like to capture a mood or feeling which provokes playability... for example... a train/ train station needs to feel powerful, a saloon rough/wild/dangerous, a snake oil peddler is sneaky/tricky... im sure you get my point.anyway, im using the Ghost Town sub-theme as a mood and setting in which to cover the less emotional themes of the WW. that is why i used a hotel and mercantile in my GHOST TOWN'S HAUNTED PASS... a hotel has few possibilities for playability in a classic western setting... but if you make it haunted, that opens a world of fun - haunted beds and cupboards, etc... and that is why im exploring the (otherwise kinda boring) water tower idea in a ghost town setting. also, this is worth mentioning... my new revamped Ghost Town theme is going to be greatly inspired by the new castle 2007 line... i want to open up the world of fantasy to the Old West, just as LEGO is doing to the medieval times... thus, my water tower is more of a monster, similar to my cactus in GHOST TOWN'S HAUNTED PASS and incorporates the same type of fantasy seen in the skull castle of 7093. -------------------------------------------------- im usually waiting on parts from BL. i mean, really if you break it down... when i order parts from a european seller (which seems to be 75% of the time - they have the special color pieces) the parts take up to 2 weeks to arrive... if after they arrive, i try them and find i don't like their inclusion... im back to ordering more parts to solve the MOC puzzle... this process can continue over and over until im happy.i haven't seen a current LEGO line that is worth buying just for the parts to build in the western theme... so i end up BrickLinking the special pieces i need. that is why im shooting for three MOCs a year, or 1 every 4 months. - BrickMiner
  22. thanks piranha... and it's really great to see some more WW interest !!! similar to Brickster, i'd like to see how other fans interpret/explore the theme.-------------------------------------------------- i have actually reworked all my currently published MOCs, B... and i think i have something much better thanks to the feedback provided here on EB, and through the growth of my own skills as an MOCist.overall, my scale was too large (by one or two bricks) and too open... you guys should see a general acknowledgement to this problem in my future MOCs. -------------------------------------------------- as for the topic at hand... my LEGOREDO STATION #6785 is only months away !!! then after that, im knocking down possible WW sets/concepts that LEGO missed in my MOC line up... GUNSLIGNERS SALOON #6758 (redesign) DOC'S SNAKE OIL #6714 STAGECOACH HOLD-UP #6722 (redesign) BANDIT'S ESCAPE CAR #6708 BOULDER PASSAGE #6784 TRADING POST #6741 FRONTIER OUTPOST #6742 for the ghost town sub-theme i have these idea i want to explore... GHOST TOWN'S HAUNTED PASS #6776 (redesign) WATER TOWER TERROR #6738 PRECARIOUS BRIDGE #6749 these are all ideas i have come-up with that i feel have a strong theme and characters to support them. there are plenty of other ideas, like a pony express/post office... but i haven't fully worked out a supportive concept/theme on which to base the set's design... so i haven't even put it in the slate. and as you mentioned piranha, i like the idea of pioneers (the townsfolk of the western theme)... i've love to see some new molds made for these characters. - BrickMiner
  23. were you trying to match the sand green ??? i've found that to be and easy color for home or office printers... it's the reds/browns that i have trouble with personally >:-( -------------------------------------------------- so, since this MOC has lived its life, and you seem to have moved on to castles, wizards and magic :-P is this is the only MOC in the "Grave Stone series 2" ??? - BrickMiner
  24. wow, that color palette works surprisingly well for the castle theme... i have to say this is great !!! - BrickMiner
