  1. well, unless johnny is a time traveler this might not make much sense ;-) i guess there could be a "three-way-theme-up"... time twisters/adventures/wild west :-D ---------------------------------------------------- i still think the "search for atlantis" idea is the best expansion theme for johnny and the gang. though our member, Grayner created an impressive adventurer sub-theme... 2. i have never watched the deadwood series... so thanks for the enlightenment, B... im with you, i don't think that strong content is necessary for a good show. though, im not sure the language would bother me as much.you kinda have to take the format into account... i mean, the show was made for HBO, which means it was targeted for an HBO audience... means there is either going to be questionable/strong material. so i guess the language was expected. a cable network western is probably what we are looking for... or maybe a basic television western :-D -------------------------------------------------- as for the MOCs, i wonder why the saloon was made so tall ??? it doesn't seem to be so in on the website linked above (which i pretty cool, BTW... i love maps ;-) ). maybe the builder was looking to build an impressive/towering structure ??? - BrickMiner
  3. this is a great topic, i wish it were getting more contributions. for me, because i strive for a seamless blend of official LEGO products with my MOCs, matching colors is a very important endeavor in creating my MOCs. i have literally spent weeks worth of hours trying to compile a comprehensive list... its really a downer because these MOCing efforts usually go unappreciated in the online communities, because color matching is so hard to differentiate on screen. in any case, i have been looking for an all-encompassing tell-all chart also... what makes this task even harder is that there is no standard naming guide either *wacko* so not only do you have to define what a color's composition is, you also have to determine what color to are defining *wacko* *wacko* *wacko* as you have mentioned there are plenty of sources, but none are compatible with each other... the one i find the most entertaining (for its obvious errors) is the MCN chart :-D hmmm... im not sure i would use the LDraw chart. as BaW has said, the peeron chart is going to be your most accurate source, since it comes from the official LEGO CMYK compositions and even includes the pantone codes. even if it doesn't match with your output device, its still the most accurate.i have compiled my own chart based on some of the most common(basic?) colors used by LEGO. basically its the peeron chart, compared to a pantone color guide, and a bunch of LEGO 2x4's. it was like putting a big puzzle together... it gives the official LEGO name and the BrickLink name along with the CMYK composition. also, notice how the name "earth orange" jumps around, depending on who's naming guide you are using. - Brick Miner
  4. hey B... it seems i agree with others that i think the first version is better than its revision... the overall shape and outline of the structure is much more appealing and balanced. and as other have said, i think the railing needs some reworking in the first version. also, as you know i love concept work in LEGO MOCing... its one of the components that is frequently overlooked, consequently we see a lot of replication style MOCs. however, i love the concept of this one, mixing a traditional victorian style haunted house with a western hotel... very cool, and nicely executed. while im not completely sold on the color scheme as others are... i do bet it works well when the structure is placed next to the official LEGO western sets, the sand green and dark orange gives us some variety in the WW. so good choice !!! BTW, i noticed that you digitally added the signage. are you going to make actual stickers for the model ??? seems like it wouldn't display well without. - BrickMiner
  5. wow... after watching that commercial, i hesitantly say the MTT might be one of the best LEGO sets ever produced. it seems LEGO is not only improving there products but their advertising too !!! because after watching both of those commercials im really considering getting the dropship AND the MTT. i think im having an identity crisis *wacko* - BrickMiner
  6. hey steve... when you first started this topic so long ago i completely agreed with you. i was actually done with EVERYTHING SW directly after seeing episode 3 :-D however, im kinda rekindling my interest in SW, and i think its due to LEGO's 2007 line. so for me, i think it is exactly opposite. i had never really been into SW LEGO, and the re-release of the MTT and the AT-ST have me wanting the line. however, whether i get some or not depends on how my pocketbook feels about collecting too many themes at once :-D however, im empathetic to your view, for sure... i mean if LEGO would have given the WW theme five different interpretations of a calvary Fort, but never a steam engine, i'd be upset too !!! -------------------------------------------------- BTW, from here on out, i wont say anything bad about SW LEGO, they are really coming around... its a first ;-) - BrickMiner
  7. hey, im glad this topic got started... as this is something we haven't talked about on EB before. i had seen these custom train wheels before on ebay, but i didn't know you could buy them from the maker himself (didn't know if they were still in production)... so this is a nice thread/resource to have !!! personally, im building a steam engine for the WW theme, and while the wheels themselves looks nice, i just don't like using the technic liftarms as pistons... i would say that is the only downside to the custom wheels, is that we also need custom pistons. i really wish LEGO would have re-introduced the components of steam engines to the 9V line. it seems like building a steam engine is a necessity in a train replication hobby. it would have been a great idea to have released these new elements in the hobby train set 10183. - BrickMiner
  8. thanks for posting this hobbes... as it was something i was interested to see, being the guy who started the "why doesn't LEGO make skyscraper sets" ;-) i think the main reason this looks so awkward is that a tower this size doesn't posses the same architecture of a building 3-4 stories tall (the intended height/design of the CC). consequently, the result is something too unnatural to the eye. however, i think LEGO is on the right track to some serious skyscraper possibilities. - BrickMiner
  9. wow, i bet everything was new and shinny... it would be great to see a miniland unweathered. BTW, did you see the spellcaster 3D movie while you were there ??? i think, by the looks of your avatar, you would really like it ;-) - BrickMiner
  10. while, im still browsing the forums daily, im keeping my posting to a minimum, cause i got some work deadlines to meet by the end of the month... id love to find some time to write about your WW haunted house MOC though ;-) - BrickMiner
  11. my view is closer to this... i think fantasy and adventure mixed into themes other than fantasy/adventure is what im looking for.i don't really care for "fantasy" (like HP, Narnia, LOTR, etc...). but i don't like miniature building either... i mean the CC is great, but it's mearly a miniature of real architechture... there is no playability or "fun" in it, only awe (which isn't bad, i just prefer a little fun, aka fantasy). - BrickMiner
  12. dosen't make much sense to me either IS.- BrickMiner
  13. uhmmm... th skin is not finished *wacko* there is still a lot of H&A Forum colors (used it as a starting point) in here that i haven't got around to changing :-D i think we need to take it down, until i can get to finishing it !!! probably be around mid may. - BM
  14. yes, SW4J is right... this is a piece that you will definitely know you have or not... because it would have to have been purchased individually from BL.the only exception would be is if you bought a "lot" from an AFOL who purchased from BL... then you might not know you have it. -------------------------------------------------- really my only hope is if someone decides to rid themselves of the discontinued color, in favor of the new more prominent reddish-brown. yes, i know, its a very slim chance :-D - BrickMiner
  15. yes, strangely enough, i think this is going to be one of those piece i horde... for no particular reason. i have a couple pieces i do this with... and that energy/magic looks pretty cool.- BrickMiner
  16. what is with the batman wings... those seem really out of place *wacko* hmmm... overall, im not sure. it looks a little weak. i don't care for the iconography on the sail. the skeleton figures look nice though, and i do like the half-long boat look. however, in contrast the harbor fort is nice... and i like the warehouse (?) building, aswell. -------------------------------------------------- im still trying to figure out a MOCing use for that electric/magic piece.... it looks interesting, but im not sure how to included it in anything. - BM
  17. :-D the only reason i bring it up is cause it fits really really well into their schedule. oh, and because i am reworking my HAUNTED PASS, and currently adding on to the theme as a whole ;-) - BM
  18. what is interesting about this equation is that the return of the Wild West fits right in ;-) Ghost Town would be a perfect "man vs. something" addition to the line-up. actual, adding ghosts to the dragon/skeleton/alien/robot/monster line-up, seems like the next logical move, if LEGO is truly going for "man vs. somethings" X-D - BrickMiner
  19. yes, it seems like a simple request... a 1x16 brick. but when its in a color LEGO never released in a set... it gets tricky. -------------------------------------------------- you know it really frustrating, when you are trying to build in a LEGOesque style.... there are so many elements that you know LEGO could have easily molded to fill the need of a set. the 1x16 brown is one that comes to mind, and is preventing me from achieving the LEGO style of building in my MOCs. there are so many times i go to BL to see how much a piece will cost me, and i end up finding the piece doesn't even exist !!! and because of the color switch, if the piece im looking for is brown or gray... it will never exist >:-( -------------------------------------------------- thanks for taking the time DB !!! - BM
  20. thanks for the insight... that is a great observation natelite !!!something to think about... - BM
  21. i am known to have one-to-many at get-togethers and events... (they don't call me the SALOON gambler for nothing ;-) )oops, sorry norro :-P - BM oh, i also forgot to mention... CONGRADULATIONS VADAR !!!
  22. :-D :-D :-D hilarious and genious SW4J !!! you did an excellent job in capturing some of the EB staff in minifig form *y* but what was norro doing suspiciously above me while i was unconsious on the floor... i have a feeling i am glad to have not remembered any of it ;-) :-D - BrickMiner
  23. this may seem like a simple one... but im looking for 1x16 brown (old brown) bricks, in new (or near new) condition. this piece is actually pretty rare though, as it was never offered in any LEGO sets. it was available through BL sellers a year or so ago, but now all that is left are 2 in "used" condition. the description of "normal playwear" probably means it doesn't meet my condition requirements. not sure what a piece of this rarity goes for, 5 bucks each sound good ??? or make me an offer ;-) i'd take 5 or 6. - BrickMiner also, if anyone has any leads on where to find these "special color" pieces (i.e. pieces in colors not offered in official LEGO sets) please let me know !!! other than BL of course ;-)
  24. stop being modest... you knew that was great, your not foolin anyone :-P in your instructions you should show someone cutting the LEGO piece in half... that would be funny ;-) all-in-all fantasic l2k *y* but i did like the treaded tires better, and i don't like the modified piece - BM
