  1. Thanks for all the ideas and comments on this crazy huge idea. I will definitely be using the Zoomlion QAY 2000 as a guide for this build. I was going to do normal outriggers, but im thinking they would be puny for this crane, "X" is the way to go. As for the problems i have had with this contest build, i would love to have not a "WIP" but a "Please help me" for this mega build. I know the biggest problem will be the amount of weight on the crane. Their are ways around it like having parts of the crane on a semi, but id rather it be self contained. Of course this is all just my thoughts, so we will see when this contest is over and i have all my parts back and ready to go!
  2. It would be a mobile crane, basically 42009 on some good steroids
  3. Hey guys, im loving this contest and i am already thinking about my next build.... of course a crane The things i have built for my contest entry that was just built not in order are a bit too big for what the size crane im building... so i need bigger and their is no time for it for this contest. I am going to finish the trailer crane dont worry. But i am wondering if 12 axles is a but too big??? I am getting another 42009 in the mail soon because of the number of parts that would be helpful. Im am just looking for your thoughts on this. I have not found a 12 axle mobile crane on Google images, so my build would not be built after a crane, it would be a free build.
  4. Personally i think if you are going to do this, i should not make it remote control. Actually have the gear selected by hand. it does not look like you are doing it this way, but i still love the idea. You would not think that it would really count, but it really does. Great idea dude!
  5. Wow, that thing is massive! I am wondering why all of the outriggers are going to be separate? is it so it is more like the actual crane. If so that if a lot of extra for a small function. But it will give your crane an extra touch, nice idea!!
  6. Looking at this picture i thought of a concern, have you tested the weight limit on those wheels you made? Im concerned that they will break under all the weight that this crane will have. But it is very starting to come together, nice job!
  7. Yours is a lot more functional, but this one is I bit smaller haha. But it can't do much http://i.ytimg.com/vi/gD-jF4M-m8o/hqdefault.jpg
  8. Thanks for all the replies, but im looking at it from a LEGO stand point, so programming is not really an option with power functions. Im just asking as a general question. And i think it has been answered
  9. Ok, so a truck would only have one rear steer axle and the trailer would be the opposite, only one non steering axle... right?
  10. I just have a question about this concept, it does not pertain to my contest build, so i made it another topic. So i am wondering if the rear axle steering is the same as one of the front axle steering but opposite. Also with trailers, do all of the axles have the same angles? I hope that is understandable, thanks!
  11. Wow, that is really good. I like how clean it is and how well you got the curves of a real forklift. Nice job
  12. I told you i wanted to work on the chassis this weekend, so here it is. The outriggers are on, battery box and receivers placed. I usually wait until the end to do the battery box and receivers, but they never fit in the model right. so i did it first this time. Functions I am putting in the chassis are; the outriggers powered via L motors, the turn table via m motor, and a servo for steering. Here are some phone pictures...
  13. that is freakin' awesome  Great work!!!
  14. My 8 LA mechanism would be great for this boom, but it is too long to use. The LA is almost as long as the boom itself. So I'll try to make it shorter, but i might make a sting and gear rack idea as mentioned. That won't b a problem :)
  15. Do you mean extend the boom or actually raise the boom??
  16. Thanks you guys for following my build so closely! @kris; their has been2 Lego Mocs I have seen with the jib, one of which failed. Regarding the strength and bending of the jib, I'm going to be doing so redesigning. I'm not sure that it will able to lift a load it is more just for looks, but I will try. Again Lego is all about testing and redesign
  17. Alright guys, here is bigger update. I got the boom finished and it works. It is extended with all string (no gear racks). 3 sections, approximately 165 studs long fully extended. Plus the surprise, a swing jib, adds another 48 studs for a total of 213 studs. I still have to do some reinforcing on the jib, but the concept is there I hope you like it I also started working on an outrigger system, some pictures are below, but im not sure if im keeping that design. but i still wanted to show you. As always comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged. Dont be too harsh tho pictures are not the best, taken from my phone
  18. That is correct, the idea is dropping the crane off at a job site and it is as functional as a mobile crane. I think it is a really cool idea!!
  19. Another small update, A got the chassis bare bones done, I am trying to get it close to the trailer. The next step is outriggers, then i can put in motors and the battery box. But those of you that have been following this topic, know that i have had problems with outrigger designs. And got to set up the hook, it is a set of 3 pulleys. As for the boom section you see, that is basically it Hope you like it
  20. Ok that makes sense, thanks for your quick response and help
  21. Im giving the crane an over view to make sure i didnt mess a function, I found one and dont know what it is or does. It looks like a reels for a cable, but idk what the cable would be for....
  22. So much design in such an unfunctional part... What are we to expect for the functions
