Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours
Chromeknight replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Nerwen raises a hand. You are right, we will cover more ground here if we go our seperate ways. I know you are friends and wish to work together, but I have a different suggestion. Lawrence, you are a strong shield, but if you run into trouble you will benefit from a skilled hand at your side. Take Alexander with you, his bow will do well. You are disreputable enough that you should be able to find the so called resistance without too much difficulty. Ellaria, by that I do not mean that you are unskilled, but that your talents, like Lord Boomingham lean towards the defensive rather than offensive. If you would take Arthur and Avialyn and go to the elves. And do not worry about this conflict. I suspect that Baelanith is not important in the scheme of things. I am not asking you to lie, but I think you need not mention this unless they bring it up. I will wait for the hard headed dwarf and then we shall see the Warlord. Do not fret Lawrence, I will let him know what I think about engaging in barroom brawls. Does this plan suit you? I think it provides each group with a selection of abilities. And if any group runs into overwhelming trouble, they can send up a flare and hold out for help. Speaking to Throlar she said, Ambassador. If you are going to attack, at least be bold in your actions! -

Nerwen steps behind Boomingham and takes the collar if his robes. Heedless of the fact that he has two swords drawn and with a strength surprising for one of such a slight build, Nerwen pulls Boomingham backwards away from the fighters. I said that I would prevent anyone from interfering and that includes you Lawrence. I do hope that your healing has not made it harder for him. Speaking in a lower voice to Ellaria and Boomingham she said, I do not like this either, but the Naugrim is rash and untried, despite his age and life. He is also proud and, as you yourself know Sir Paladin, derives strength from his pride. I would not take that from him but rather have him learn humility as he grows in experience as a hero. She sighs lightly Your fears are likely well founded Ellaria, this conflict could endanger our relations with Lady Caladryl. But I suspect that things would be difficult anyway, everyone says that they are haughty and aloof. Also,If Throlar is beaten or requires our help to beat this barfly it weakens our position, demonstrating our party's lack of prowess. For those reasons I let the fight continue, even though I dislike it. I apologise for not speaking earlier, Ellaria, and clarifying both my misgivings and my acceptance of this. -

Nerwen looks at the combatants. Throlar did not seem to be out of his depth. She replied calmly to Ellaria I understand your fear. But our ambassador needs to fight his own battles, and he is not overmatched. But I will watch carefully in case of interference by others. -

Nerwen replies quietly Thank you for your trust in me, even though I also am an elf. Though not as you can see, a brobric. Do you have rooms to rent here? It is likely we will need somewhere to sleep and it may be prudent having a settled place to work from. -

Nerwen nods at Alexander's words, watching the dwarvish ambassador engage with the elf Yes, though I hope they are not like this one. He seems to be drunk. Before we leave here I want to find out as much as we can about the factions in town. She turns to the bartender and asks How is business? Do you see many people in here? Who is important in town? -

Nerwen watches Alexander's reading the poster and signing up. She steps across to the poster and signs her name, Nerwen Calmcacil also. -

Nerwen's eyes narrow meeting another 'Lord'. 'Quel andune, Baelanith. I am Nerwen Calmcacil, Cala'quessir of the White Towers, Shaman of Heroica. Word has reached our organisation of the state of this town and we have come to set things in order. Please tell me, who leads the elves here and where might we find them? -

Nerwen gently took the horse's reins before Throlar could go galloping off. Peace ambassador. No one has forgotten anything. But you would be wise to avoid judging a whole people by the actions of a few. As for finding and murdering the Pongcanae singlehanded, do you fancy yourself more skilled at war than the redoubtable Commander Pinnock standing before us? Are you a hardened Hoplite? Or perhaps a wily ranger to track them, a stealthily thief to sneak close and a ravening barbarian to cut them all down in one blow? You have a purpose in this party, never fear. And you will see your purpose revealed in time. For now, patience. Watch and wait and learn. Nerwen releases the horse. Though if your heart still burns within you and you would rush off to your death, I will not stop you. But, tell us who is your next-of-kin that we might laud your end. -

You are right, I apologise. On reflection I spoke of our purpose to your subordinate. No matter. Thank you for your time however. Nerwen waits for others to speak to Pinnock then says Shall we go get a drink? -

Your plan is admirable ambassador. However, much as Masters Arthur and Boomingham do not wish to admit it, the Pongcanae are more than brutish beasts. They have language and culture of their own. Some suggest they are even native to this island and predate all but the lost moon elf tribes. It is conceivable that they could be a valid party to cede control of the town to rather than being an occasional raiding nuisance. If that is the case, we will not need to look to hard for the contact, once he hears of our task he will find us and take us to this new Pongcanis leader. Speaking to the returned Hoplite Nerwen said. Commander Pinnock! I am glad to see you unharmed. I take it you were not successful in locating your adversaries? We have had an interesting chat with your Sergeant, but, you understand, he is naturally cautious about speaking of things we need to know to complete our task here. It is good that you have returned, perhaps you can be more candid with us before we let return to your patrol. The first question is, can you direct us to a sergeant-at-arms or similar, one who trains your troops. Our ambassador is keen and has a good head on his shoulders, he merely needs som direction in how best to wield his weapons. Secondly, what is the disposition and state of the Mopag forces in the area? As I said before, we are here to help settle the question of who would best be put in control of this town. It is a strategic point on the road. If your Warlord had no interest in it, you would not be he. Conversely, if you are reticent about working with us, it reflects badly on your superior's likely intent. Therefore, I encourage you to be more forthcoming than your underling. Thirdly, where is the best place to get a drink. Standing here in the sun talking to you is thirsty work and I can see Lord Boomingham's attention wandering already. Even our gentle Druid seems to be suffering a little heatstroke. -

Perhaps we had best wait for Commander Pinnock to return. We should not simply barge in on the Warlord. Whilst we wait, could you show our dwarvish ambassador here some useful moves with his chain mace? Train him and improve his level of fighting prowess? I am sure we can compensate you appropriately. -

Nerwen spoke in a low voice to the dwarvish ambassador. Yes. I know his correct name. I phrased it as I did because anybody who appends awesome to their name no doubt wants it used as flagrantly and often as possible. You will find as we go I will say or do things that you do not understand or think are incorrect. I will almost always have a reason for such. You would be better served asking quietly what I intend rather than loudly attempting to correct me. Nerwen smiles gently to demonstrate her lack of rancor in her words. -

Nerwen replied lightly In concealing your numbers, your instincts do you credit. But we are here to broker truces between the various parties where possible. If you are not able to speak freely for the Mopag I must ask you to direct us to who can. Unless, of course it is Commander Pinnock whom we met earlier and will likely be some time yet running off the Pogs. -

Nerwen leaned closer, questioning the sergeant in a low voice. Thank you Sergeant. What is the strength of your battalion and how many battalions of the confederation grand armee are operating here? What is the approximate strength of the Elven forces? Are there any other armed forces operating in the vicinity? -
Sophie's World Jostein Gaarder "There was only one question today, but it was even dumber than the previous three: Why is LEGO the most ingenious toy in the world? For a start, Sophie was not at all sure she agreed that it was. It was years since she had played with the little plastic blocks. Moreover, she could not for the life of her see what Lego could possibly have to do with philosophy. But she was a dutiful student. Rummaging on the top shelf of her closet, she found a bag full of Lego blocks of all shapes and sizes. For the first time images she began to build with them. As she worked, some ideas began to occur to her about the blocks. They werer easy to assemble, she thought. Even though they are all different, they all fit together. They are also unbreakable. She couldn't ever remember seeing a broken Lego block. All her blocks looked as bright and new as the day they were bought, many years ago. The best thing about them was that Lego she could construct any kind of object. And then she could separate the blocks and construct something new, What more could one ask of a toy? Sophie decided that Lego really could be called the most ingenious toy in the world."

After Commander Pinnock leaves pursuing the Pongcanae, Nerwen nodded at the remaining Mopag Hoplites. We are indeed from heroica. I am Lady Calmcacil. And you are? We saw a squad of Pongcanis attack a merchant. Unfortunately we were not close enough to intervene and save his life. They ran off to the east no very long ago, your Commander is not to far behind them. Our task here is to restore order to the town. How stands it? What forces are there and what are the issues that require resolution? -

Let us circle deosil around to the outskirts and make our way in that way. Throlar was wise in picking out control of the wells as critical to the town, we should see who exerts influence there. Nerwen began to move silently through the undergrowth clockwise around the town. -

Nerwen nodded at Boomingham's words. It seems further questions can wait until we reach the town. Ahvialyn. Your armour looks sturdy but it marks you as being under Normorn's command. Do you have other clothes to wear for our entry into town? We would not want to prejudice the townsfolk or garrison against us prematurely. -

I have a few questions if you please. What is the current population of the town? What is known of the factions in R'klif and where do they draw their support from? Are there elves from Keveak's garrison remaining in the town and do they accept your authority? If so, can we have a letter showing we act on your authority? What state are the gatehouses and keep in? Nerwen paused and drew breath, saving further questions until after those had been answered and others had spoken. -

Nerwen watches with surprise as the short dwarf makes a prodigious leap into the saddle of one of the horses. You ought be an acrobat rather than an ambassador. Speaking to Arthur and Lawrence she said If it is alright with her, I think that I will ride with Ellaria. We won't overburden the horse and she is more likely to keep her hands to herself. Giving a pointed look at the paladin as she spoke. Ahvialyn, I had no idea that the amulets were once living horses, I would rather work than enslave a creature in such a way. With a louder voice, she addressed the whole party Are we now all sorted with our equipment? It would be a shame to waste what daylight we have left. We should go soon. -

Nerwen looked again at the white horse that reminded her of Mistmane. She looked again down at the amulet. Listening to Ahvialyn her resolve hardened. That an elven horse should be treated so was not right. Drawing the mourning star with its firey glow, she placed the amulet on a nearby fence post. Summoning her strength she drew back and struck the jewellery. The fragile inducing fire rushed into the small chip of metal, shattering it into glowing shards. The spell broken, the white horse vanished. Free. Nerwen's head bowed a moment in silence. you can remove it from Nerwen's inventory thanks BD
