Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours
Chromeknight replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Indeed not, their help is not free, but you are not called to pay their price. As for who sent us, who is asking? Are you Lady Caladryl's mouthpiece and the question comes from her or are you a mere door guard who is grasping at more authority than you ought? Should I continue to treat with a darken arrow slit while you stint your hospitality or will I speak to your lady face to face? -

Nerwen blinked in surprise as the dwaf spoke in the language of the Ithil'quessir. But then, he was an ambassador, perhaps he had spent time on Moone, she would have to ask him later. Thinking over what the unseen elf had said so far Nerwen adjusted her syntax and lifted her voice saying, Hail and well met Saeavel. I have come to contribute to the restoration of R'klif and for the greater good of the elves. My companions have gone in different directions to learn how the town stands. But our purpose is united, even if we have not yet agreed on the best course. I seek audience with Lady Calaryl to hear her wisdom on this place and on the profitable path. -

Nerwen aided her voice and in common said, Throlar! Though you cannot see it, there is a bow pointed at you. It would be a shame to have you hurt, please climb down promptly! Nerwen spoke in Quenya again to the unseen elf. Have told you the name of me. Tell please the name of you to me? The voice was soft and she struggled to pick the gender of the speaker. -

Despite his height, Throlar was agile and could climb like a shadowcat. Shaking her head in amusement, Nerwen stepped in clear view of the doors, planted her staff and said in flawless Quenya, though an archaic mode Am Calmcacil Nerwen, I. To speak to Calaryl Lady have I come. Open the door will you? And meet with me? -

I should go and re watch the saga... As for moving, Nerwen doesn't know they've left the keep and assumes they are there talking with the elves. So that's where she's headed. Sorry it was unclear. Nerwen looks about the camp and toward the town, the keep looming over the buildings that remain. She sighted upon it and walked in its direction. You might consider working on your diplomacy Ambassador. I am sure you could be good at it if you were bold about it. -

Nerwen bows her head briefly. Whether it is sadness or obsquience is unclear. Raising her head she steps lightly around the Warlord. As she completes her circle around he she drags one finger across his burnished chest plate. Kaherdin... she breathed softly, I was so hoping to hear of the fig who fills this fine armour. You are indeed the commander of many hoplites. And no doubt you have earnt your commission. No one is taking that from you nor denying your power, your awesomeness in that arena. But, there are many forms of power and many sources. You are aware that not every problem can be solved by the shield and spear of your loyal troops. Not every challenge is answered by muscle and sharp metal. The world is more than black and white, and there is more to others than simply being tools or enemies. We began this discussion by noting we have similar goals. I say to you this. We will not oppose you or your forces in your pursuit of the purpose you have spoken to us, with the exception that we will defend ourselves if you offer violence. We are not your enemy and will not act like it. But it is a shame that you do not value wisdom and skill such as to hold us as friends. Nerwen stepped to the edge of the tent, lifting the flap to make space for the ambassador to go past she said to Kaherdin When you grasp all that I have said and wish to speak to me again, I am certain your troops will be able to find me. I will come when you ask. I wish you luck in completing the task before you. Saying that, Nerwen leaves. Let us go and see how Arthur and Ellaria are going with the elves. And see this festering heart for ourselves. -

Nerwen raises an eyebrow in amusement Why, Master Mopag, are you not quite the charmer, asking me to perform for you like some painted strumpet or beggar's simian! She stepped closer to the armoured 'fig, looking down a little bit. I do not know how long your kind live so telling your age would be a blind guess. But I know this, I am older than you. And with that age comes experience. It is no mere boast when I say I have done many things, been many things, learnt and taught, fought and healed, torn down and built up. I do not know what you would consider impressive, but as a military fig I hazard that feats of arms may get your attention. Know this then, I am Nerwen Calmcacil, Blood Mage of heroica. With stout compainions at my side, I have bested a dragon changeling, a renegade Boneparte captain, a demon chained beneath the city, the Dark General and his handmaiden, the traitorous Emperor of Dastan and more beside. And that is merely my last two years, a fraction of my lifetime. I ought be the one asking you, how earnt you the appellation 'awesome'? Impress me with your own tally and with how you might assist us. -

Nerwen placed a hand gently on Tholar's shoulder The fog seems to have lifted, we can see the camp clearly now, though I do not think it was the work of Pongcanae. As for this conversation, it is good that you are committed to speaking diplomatically as suits a knight. She draws breath slowly through her nose. Her sharp senses pick out the smell sthat the Pongcanae take warning from. Eyes narrowing a moment in thought, Nerwen then smiles winsomely at the stern Hoplite commander I would be surprised if the council did not permit a warrior as puissant as you some leeway in achieving the objectives they have set before you. I believe we can be of use to each other and it is good that you have made your intentions clear. Perhaps something can be done to mask smells to permit a successful raid. Or some other method of correctly identifying the lair so that a proper cordon can be established. In any case, we do not wish to intrude too much upon your valuable time. One more question, though. If we are able to provide assistance to you, are you willing to accept it? -

Nerwen's sharp eyesight flicked across the map spread on the table. what can you tell us of this Pongcanis leader? Do you know where he lairs? Is there perhaps some advantage to striking first? We are not the only ones to have been sent here. -

The first action is to identify forces in play, both those interested in restoring the town and those who wish to plunder it. I expect you fall in the first catagory, not the second. -

Nerwen's eyes narrowed slightly as he addressed her as master. Pitching her voice low and quiet she said to her companion Perhaps you might mention Commander Pinnock? That we assisted him earlier? -

Nerwen watches as a stone arcs out of the mist and with uncanny aim bounces off Throlar's helmet. After regaining his feet, the Ambassador hurls the rock back in the direction it came. Nerwen says quietly, I do hope you did not hit any of the Mopags we have come to speak to. The sentry's appearance and challenge was expected but sudden. Well master dwarf, lead on. -

Despite it having been a clear day and now past noon, a fog seems to hang across the Mopag camp, veiling things in a mist that cut vision. Nerwen wondered if it was a spell to protect the camp from Pongcanae or something more mundane. Speaking to the dwarf trailing her she said. I wonder if you would be better at leading the discussion. They may not be on good terms with the elves here and might assume I am like them. Nerwen stood to the side, her hand out, making room for Ambassador Wineglihm to pass by. Let's play without pix. I'm keen to keep moving. -

40hrs since someone's last post? After chivvying the QM? Nerwen glares at Ambassador Tholar. Getting no response she leaves to find the Mopag camp, barely caring if the dwarf follows or not. -

Perhaps if we plan to meet back here this eve. Fare well. Picking up the slender elven blade Nerwen faces the short knight. This is yours, but I fear what might happen to you if you are seen carrying such. I will lend you this Morningstar and keep the blade as a spare weapon in case my staff is ineffective. It is a good idea to keep two weapons, especially if they are elementaly endowed. It means you will always have a weapon which damages the enemy. Nerwen takes the elven sword for safekeeping and lends Throlar Mourning Star -
Your feeling is a little off base. Fours are much more common than eights, but slightly less common than sixes Here are the counts. Party of two; one quest; #41. Party of three; eighteen quests; #6, 22, 33, 34, 37, 39, 42, 45, 46, 47, 49, 54, 58, 60, 63, 71, 74, 76. Party of four; fifteen quests; #10, 14, 15, 23, 27, 31, 36, 43, 51, 64, 65, 68, 72, 78, 80. Party of five; twenty two quests; #8, 11, 12, 16, 21, 24, 25, 26, 28, 30, 32, 35, 38, 56, 57, 59, 61, 62, 67, 69, 70, 73. Party of six; seventeen quests; #1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 13, 18, 19, 20, 29, 40, 48, 50, 52, 55, 75, 77. Party of eight; three quests; #4, 7, 17. Party of nine; two quests; #53, 66. Party of seventeen; one quest; #44. Interestingly there's never been a party of seven. The Dastan finale produced a group of fifteen PCs.

Nerwen's eyes narrow and she steps back quickly as the elf flourishes his blade. The wild movements clash against the shield of Throlar beside her. Looking for another opening she is slightly surprised as the elf's visage turns greenish and he keels over. Rounding on the knights she says with some heat, Well. What was that all about? I assume that, as Flipz pointed out, the poison from the hit in round 8 subtracts 1HP in rounds 8,9 and 10, leaving Baelanith KO'd by round's end -

Well done BD. no format errors that I could see. Be happy your mobile screen isn't cracked! Happily my iPad is in my bag. Nerwen exhales in relief. Barty! I am glad to see you. Do keep Larwrence from doing anything he might regret. As for this battle. Perhaps we should speed things along. Leaning her staff carefully against the table, she steps forward barehanded and punches Baelanith in the face. Lasta lalaithamin. Battle order Throlar Nerwen Boomingham I've selected an action, but I think it would be fair to assume Throlar and Boomers will attack from the front row, what with shields up and all -

Nerwen let out an exasperated sigh. If you must then. But make it clean. No sense giving this poor barkeep more work. Battle order > Throlar attacks Baelanith Boomingham attacks Baelanith Nerwen does nothing -

Nerwen lurched from her seat Fool! Put up that blade! The armour the elf is wearing is no match for that. Helvetia! You could probably take him out using your bare hands without effort. I was actually asking simply to clarify. Not in order to provoke kill-stealing! I am conscious of the level gap. But given this is a BD quest, perhaps I oughtn't be. -

Nerwen rolled her eyes I am glad you are good with your shield, but we really need to find you a better weapon. Nerwen sits at a nearby table to watch Throlar and does nothing to intercede inthe fight Battle order Nerwen does nothing > Throlar attacks Baelanith assuming Throlar wins, where does Boomingham stand in relation to XP? -

Nerwen turns around, realising she had stepped between Baelanith and Throlar. I am glad I was not struck whilst talking. Throlar. This fight is yours. I have no wish to interfere. Nerwen does nothing Battle order > Throlar attacks Baelanith Nerwen does nothing How do I handle Boomingham as a hero assisting the enemy? Lawrence! You are standing on the wrong side of the room there! Put those swords up and let the dwarf finish what he started. -

Nerwen nods a small nod in thanks. Apologies Alexander. I did not mean to leave you out of the conversation. I simply thought your attention was elsewhere.
