Heroica RPG - Quest#88: Fathers and Sons
Chromeknight replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
Nerwen blinds Bolivar (from the back row). Sir Ablesword. Perhaps you might remedy our Ms. Hightribe? We need not worry about free hits, we can withstand those. Let me go first, so that if Bolivar is not blinded and no one else targets him, the hit falls on me. -

Perhaps we all ought target Sir Bolivar. He cannot hurt us. And the others cannot penetrate Sir Ablesword, or my defences. That would put and end to this distraction. Nerwen leads the way, striking Bolivar. Try that trick with the knives again, Precious. Gocklo, throws a knife at Bolivar, ranged style, back row. -

Come and have a remedy Gocklo. Nerwen remedies Gocklo. Gocklo retrieves his knives. Dammit. Just realised Gocklo should have retrieved his throwing knives rather than doing nothing last round. Oh well. -

argh! Sorry for missing the update. Hold! Nerwen tries to blind Bolivar again to keep him from hurting her questmates. Gocklo! Take a break, we'll get back to you. -

Nerwen reads from the scroll of blinding again. Attempting to keep Bolivar in check. Fancy shot Kobold. Bet you can not do it again. With is one remaining Dagger, Gocklo lines up his targets again. Also, if Jess(Sisco) doesn't get XP from the battle, is it rude to ask her to toss me Hoke's 3XP medal before the end? No sense in wasting it! -

Nerwen continues speaking to the Sons of Light, her voice ringing with diplomacy. You see that I am protected not merely by my armour but by the Light as well. Fighting a paladin will gain you nothing but hurt and regret. Lay down your arms I say. Again Nerwen targets Bolivar. More of the same please Gocklo. Gocklo throws a second knife at Son of Light B, from behind Nerwen. -

There could be an effect for doubling ether, but I've never come close to running out and the prevalence of tonics in drops (and their cheapness) means the effect probably isn't needed. Sir Ablesword. This is not about what we have done but what the Light would have us do. These men are obeying orders from those they believe are right. The Light will show them their trust is misplaced, but it will take Bolivar's fall to do so. Please focus on making it come to pass. Gocklo, precious. Perhaps you could distract some of the others. Give them more to think about. Gocklo adopts a ranged style and throws a knife at Son of Light E from the safety of the back row. -

Nerwen is transcended. +1 Ether. Nerwen ignores Bolivar's ranting. She speaks to the other Sons The one you followed is blinded by the Light and I stand here unharmed. Put up your weapons and join us. The Light will spare you if so. Otherwise you earn the same judgement as will fall on this apostate. Nerwen's voice rings with diplomatic authority and power, the light casting a nimbus around her head and ruffling her white-gold hair. Nerwen strikes Bolivar's horse with the intent of bringing him to the ground. -

From the RP before, Gocklo is on Nerwen's horse Well Kobold, they aren't witches, but they are apostate, I assume you're equally happy dispensing divine justice on these? Feel free to be brutal in your treatment of them. Nerwen maneuvers her horse so Gocklo can strike Sons of Light B then C. -
As Zeph has acknowledged in thread, the issue isn't whether it actually works but whether it is shown to work. But that's sorted, so no worries.

Heroica RPG - Quest#88: Fathers and Sons

Not sure I follow here. We become unhastened if unhorsed. Enemies do not become unhastened if unhorsed. Enemies become unhastened if horse dies. We become unhastened only if horse dies. So when are we unhastened? Upon unhorsing or upon horse death? Or does unhorsing kill the horse and there is no logical conflict? Nerwen raises the Seal of the Warrior Priestess and shouts Amin n'rangwa edanea! The status effects are from the previous battle. And, once again, rolling for the SotWP (or noting the rolls if they failed). Thanks! Nerwen unrolls her scroll of blindness and raises her hand, pointing at Bolivar. Darkness of your heart take the light of your eyes. If successful, she strikes son of light A with her staff, otherwise attempts blinding Bolivar again. -

Nerwen reigns in her horse, stopping. She holds up the Seal of the Warrior Priestess and speaks using her Diplomacy skills to Bolivar My son in the Light. Do you see this? Do you recognise it? I am a servant of the Light, two and a half centuries have I walked this path. So I charge you, by the Light, which reveals all falsehood and lies, take us to the river and the bridge. We have the work of The Lord of Light to do there. At the end of her speech, Seraphael bursts into blazing visibility before them pointing toward the bridge. Rogues, Clerics and Barbarians can simply use their job trait, it just works. Mages and Ranges can try to use theirs and if it does or doesn't work, the QM responds showing the effect either way, and usually explaining, if it didn't work, why not. Several times throughout this quest, Hoke and I have invoked diplomacy, I'd like to hear it work, or if it doesn't, hear why not. Thanks. -

Careful where you put those hands Kobold. Nerwen turns to check on the riders, trying to pick out if they are soldiers of one of the kingdoms, Nords or mercenaries of some faction. Not seeing (being told of) any obvious markings, she swiveled back to Hoke. Ignore them. If they mean us harm, it will become clear. Our duty is at the bridge, not in back alleys. -

Consider your words carefully Raguel. You say 'The Lord of Light has had enough bowing' and 'we will not bow'. Are you confusing your own cause with that of your Lord's? I fear for you. You have said that The Lord of Light is also Lord of shadows. But that is not true. The Texts say he dwells in unapproachable light and the Lord of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. She speaks clearly and directly to Prince David, again mustering her diplomacy. I say to you. If you do this it is not done in the will of the Light. Destroying the bridge which so many have died for would be to cast a shadow across this land. Let us Go together, to welcome your father home. Bow before him, your King. And leave aside talk of taking the bridge by force, for that path is darkness not light. -

A day has passed since the Light granted me Angelic protection and a clearer hearing of his voice. But if he is The Lord of All as the texts say, if there is none other besides him, then my every action leading up to this day has also been in his service. Sometimes unknown, sometimes known, as he has chosen to reveal himself throughout my two and and half centuries of walking these lands. Understand that I respect you as an elder in our shared path. But also know I am not simply a paladin, I remain an elf, a tele'quessir and experience things very differently to the brief lives of the edain. If my perspective is different, it is not to lecture you, it is to carry a message to you from the light itself. As for forgiveness of those who strike his servants, it would be a bold man to deny categorically that such a thing be impossible. How would you punish the chief? Give him the blessed relief of death? Or would you rather his kin and servants be slaughtered and he be asked to bend the knee in fealty to other kings? Is that not what we achieved? Is he not punished fitly? And inaction? How can that be of a servant of the light unless the light wishes it so? Either you are saying you mislike the Light's commands to bide or you ignore his call to action. If the one you serve says he has ignored the light's call, does that not reflect poorly on his advisor? Nerwen turned to the Prince. You ask where were we when the Nords were burning your city? We were with your General, securing the passage of him who could release your father. The father whose release you specifically commanded me to effect if possible. Where were we when Nords were slaughtering your people and you wished to strike them down? We were striking them down. Where were we? Answering the call of the light that you did not. We have protected your people. We did not pardon all nords, we struck many down and left those standing in fealty to you. And we did not begin by insulting your advisor, though he chose to take my words so. But I have made clear now my opinon on the worth of his service to you, Nerwen's voice rose, Whom do I serve? I have faithfully served he who brought us to these lands. Whom do I serve? I think it is clear I have served you well. Whom do I serve? I walk in the light, following The Lord of Light. That you ask me this question is no reflection on my service, but upon your own dimness of vision. You were there when I swore that I would bend my path to fighting darknesses, bringing forth light in each that I meet, as they are able to bear. Striking down only those that have only darkness within them. If you have charge to bring against me on that oath, do so. Nerwen drew breath and continued in a calmer more diplomatic tone, I apologise my lord for raising my voice. It was unseemly. But come, we are servants of the same light. Let us share the light we have and have no quarrels over whether age or length of service or station of birth is due deference and greatest honour. *breathe* Sorry for those not into walls of text! Apparently Nerwen's been waiting for a chance to vent. The tl;dr version is Nerwen already a bit arrogant before. Now she'll go toe to toe with anyone. -
I think the more crucial thing with player absences is not the battles but the role-play. It doesn't take five brains to figure a good use of skills, items and actions during combat. But a back and forth between characters only works if players are present and engaged. (Engaged beyond 'I repeat' actions in battle).

His head is firmly attached to his shoulders, as befits one who surrenders to the will of The Lord of Light. The Lord of Light is merciful and wise. -

To Gocklo Nerwen said gently, Hush, little one. Raising her voice she addressed the old Paladin. I did hear the call. And answered it. We halted the fire-nord slaughter of your people and restored honour between them and the high kingdoms. The Lord we serve cares for the people who serve your King and acted through me, through us, to protect them. What more would you have me do? -
