  1. I saw the 2009 pirates sets on ebay, not sure why I was looking, I didn't have an ebay account at that time, and I was inspired to build something. This was the first in a while because I had been in a year long mini dark age. I knew that I wanted to make something but I had no ideas.A quick google search brought me to Classicpirates.com which then lead me to Eurobricks. I lurked around here for a few months while and then decided to join. Best decision i have made in a long time.
  2. Nice job with the droid arms still holding on and on the foliage.
  3. Thats at the end of the introduction. I actually found it after reviewing this set.
  4. I noticed that on some of mine too. Was it random or did did newer sets have one and older sets the other? I cant tell from my small collection but which one is normal?
  5. Yeah I knew that but when and where was it released? I don't remember seeing it on the Lego sight.
  6. I voted for Hinkley because I liked his car better (it was that close) and because I would like to keep General Armendariz in his barrel.
  7. Oh, thanks once again White Fang. I had thought that since they where under the same topic that this was the right place. Do you ever get tired of correcting my posts? It seems to have happened allot recently.
  8. Wow just noticed that your complaint link leads no where. Nice way to keep complaints to a minimum. Not that I was goint to complain anyway just asking a question. Can my Solo Sub review be indexed?
  9. In total they are worth $47.10 to be exact. The prices have gone down recently though. I think these are some of the best designed minifigs ever for a non lisenced set. Edit: you should review some of these sets if you still have all the parts as there are no reviews in this theme yet.
  10. I also got 16 heres a pic on a 2 x 16 plate:
  11. Corner buildings are always harder so nice job on converting the post office to a corner. Also good luck getting CC, it should fit well with your MOCs.
  12. Where did that 50th anniversary guy come from? Was that book a limited release or something. I remember seeing a collectors guide but nothing like this.
  13. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to do one of these. Nice job though I would have liked the real set more like either of these better.
  14. Not to mention they have a wider selection. Nice job on the sign it looks even better than before.
  15. Nice review for your fist one. Thats a surprisingly good design for such a small set. To bad theirs no tail though.
  16. At least a few pictures and a link are better than nothing. I don't usually click on links too. This is a great example: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=29930 (I know just what you wanted a link ) Two pictures and a link to a gallery, the creation was good enough that I looked through the whole thing. P.S. how many people clicked on my link?
  17. Thats a good little plane, and nice job on the tilted waves. Thats a good little plane, and nice job on the tilted waves.
  18. Iron Hook is this guy:http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=pi022 he was in the second part of the line Pete wasn't the only other pirate to were the hat, theres this guy: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=7450 in Perilous Pitfall
  19. Works for me!! doubt he'll get any votes though.
  20. I would recommend sorting it even if it seems like a daunting task. I used to have a similar thing but I spent a week sorting for a few hours a day and finished. Even if you just do it by color you will be able to find the part you want rather quickly.
  21. The picture is a link to the gallery
  22. With the recent release of Space Police III my view on Lego space has changed. With (in my opinion) the disapointing small ships in the new line I decided to revisit the previous 2 Space Police Lines. In doing so I found a small, Impulse like set: 6813 Galactic Chief. As I no longer have the Box or Instructions the images provided are courtesy of Peeron and Bricklink. Because I got this second hand there are two pieces missing (a dark green visor and white "Minifig Loudhailer"). They have been replaced with the same parts in different colors, trans-light green and black. Name: Galactic Chief Set: 6813 Theme: Space Police II Year: 1993 Pieces: 23 Minifigs: 1 Price: USD $3.00 Bricklink Peeron Brickset The Box Interestingly the box does not include one of the pieces included in the instructions. Which one? The white "Minifig Loudhailer" (This One) The Front of the Instructions Same picture as the box art, still missing his weapon/megaphone. Minifig from the Front The Minifig is your average SP guy but he does come with many parts, a helmet, visor, air tank, and, epaulettes. I do like the detail on the torso though The Minifig from the Back Not much to see here as there is no back printing. Can't complain though because there was none back then. The Minifig Without His Helmet Interesting face, is it just me or does this guy look a little feminine? Great detail on the face though with the head set and whatever that thing is on the right. The Build Not much of a build here because it's only 23 pieces, but compared to SPIII impulse sets it is rather large. Interesting Parts Even though it is small it does come with some interesting parts. The green windscreen is rather useful as is the engine. I also like the tail piece as it is somewhat rare now. The printed slope is great too, no stickers like todays Space Police. The Front View of the Ship I like this ship but it could be improved with some landing gear or weapons. Maybe thats what the thing on the roof is. The Side of the Ship As you can see its a pretty solid ship, especially for its low price. The Back This is a little boring as theirs not much to see here. I think if this were a set now it would have a sticker here. The Cockpit Here is your very own Galactic Chief demonstrating the only movable part of this set, the cockpit. Inside Once inside the ship the Chief realizes that there is no way to control this ship! How much would it have been to add a printed control tile? This is the only thing holding the set back in my opinion. Overall The set in it's entirety. A great addition to any fleet. Overall Rating Minifig: 9/10 He (or she) is a great addition to any police force and is made up of many parts. Parts: 8/10 There are not many but they are rather large and useful. Price: 10/10 Compared to todays sets $3 is great ! Playability: 8/10 It's a space ship so it can be played with without too much imagination. The cockpit is great but the ship has no controls. Overall: 9/10 Based on the scorecard. What do you think? Because every god cop needs criminals to arrest License and registration.
  23. Now replaced by Indiana Jones, the former Adventurers line held a treasure trove of characters and exotic locations. Released in 1998, the the first line brought us Johnny Thunder and his friends (and enemies) in the deserts of Egypt. In this same year, Thunder's car on his expeditions was released, 5918 Scorpion Tracker. This little car/jeep included many accessories and, true to it's name, two of the new scorpions. I love this little set and currently own two of them, as they are a great addition to any collection. I no longer have the box or instructions for this the so the images provided in these parts of the review are from Peeron, and Brickset. Name: Scorpion Tracker Set: 5918 Theme: Adventurers, Desert Year: 1998 Pieces: 31 Minifigs: 1 Price: USD $4.00 Bricklink Peeron Brickset The Box The box is typical for the Adventurers line including the logo on the upper right corner. It also says that the set contains 34 pieces, contrary to Bricklink, Peeron, and my own count. The Front of the Instructions The Instructions do not tell the builder of the Adventurers theme however even though it contains the same image as the front of the box. Minifig from the Front The only minifig included in this set is the famous Johnny Thunder, probably one of the most easily recognisable Lego figures of the 90's. The Adventurers line brought the idea of each set being part of a story, much like the first pirate line, back to Lego and because of this Thunder has quite a lengthy biography. He is from Australia, is an archaeologist, and just like Indiana Jones is never without his hat. He sports his typical kaki shirt and red bandanna with a handgun tucked into his belt. He is also called Sam Grant in some parts of the world. To his right is one of the new scorpions. I do like this animal but it would have been better had its claws been able to hold things, much like the Lego crabs. The Minifig from the Back The back of the figure which is pretty much nothing. You can however see the back of the scorpion in this shot. The Build Certainly not a very complicated build but from here that the only thing supporting the 4x8 plate (that supports everything else) is a 2x2 black plate. This doesn't do much for the overall look of the car as made obvious when viewing the car from the side. More of the Build Even though this set is rather small there are some interesting pieces. Easily visible here is the tan 2x1, 45 degree double slope, a great piece to have even though its not very rare. Also shown is the lovely windshield piece that in my opinion works very well here. Interesting Part Shown here is the vehicle base that was common in the adventurers theme, and recently reintroduced in tan in 7682 Shanghai Chase. For some reason it includes what looks like a radio in between the seats even though it gets covered by a printed tile. I know some people like doors in their sets but I like this part more as it allows for two minifigs to ride side by side. The Car The complete car is shown here without any of the distracting accessories. I think the grille piece on the front of the car works well here and is great for MOCing older cars. The Front View of the Car Looks great from the front and this the best angle to view the set from. No real bumper to speak of but the black tile is fine on such a small car. For some reason from this angle the car looks happy and because the headlights look like eyes and the wheel almost looks like a raised eyebrow the car has a personality. The Side of the Car From the side the car looks rather odd as there are two random holes in the side. This to me is the biggest flaw in an otherwise well designed set. it is obviously quickly fixed though and without these holes looks much better. The Back View of the Car The back is certainly the worst angle to view this car from as there is really nothing to see. I would have liked for a printed licence plate to go here. I do however like the use of the crate as the back as it is a good place to store the loads of accessories included in the set. Accessories This is one thing that TLC did well in the 90's as it usually gave the minifigs more weapons and tools than they could hold. To help him Johnny Thunder has enlisted the help of his scorpion friends. The pickax, rifle, shovel, binoculars, and map (not shown in picture) really add to the playability of this set. Overall The overall look of this set is rather stunning and the car is a great addition to the Adventurers theme. The two scorpions included are also usefull because this was a cheap way to get the (new at the time) scorpions. Overall Rating Minifig: 8/10 Johnny Thunder is great and unlike his modern counterpart Indy he was not in every set. Parts: 10/10 Great part selection for a low price with wheels, tools, weapons, a map, and car parts. What more could you ask for? Price: 9/10 For only $4 this was a great pickup, I wish TLC's $4 sets where this good now. Playability: 9/10 You can do just about anything with this set, explore, dig for treasure, run over scorpions, the possibilities are endless. Overall: 9/10 I used to love this set as a kid so maybe I'm biased but how could you not like this set? Sadly Johnny Thunder and the entire Adventurers line met it's end with the arrival of Indiana Jones. It was in fact more violent than most had suspected.
  24. After recently reviewing two sets that I rather liked I decided to review a set that I don't like at all, 6110 Solo Sub. Solo Sub was part of the Hydronauts theme and even though I didn't like this particular set the theme as a whole was decent. Because I bought it secondhand mine came with a trans-light green propeller instead of a regular trans-green one. It also came with 2 sets of black flippers (4 overall) and I decided to photograph it like that because it looks better. Believe me, this set needs all the help it can get. I no don't have the box or instructions for this the so the images provided are from Peeron, and Brickset. Name: Solo Sub Set: 6110 Theme: Aquazone, Hydronauts Year: 1998 Pieces: 22 Minifigs: 1 Price: USD $4.00 Bricklink Peeron Brickset The Box From the box you should be able to see how boring this set looks, the "Sub" is shown sitting on a rock. Thats some playability there. The Hrdronauts logo is located in the upper right corner. The Front of the Instructions The Instructions have the same picture as the box front. In my opinion the most interesting part is the fact that they seem to be on a cliff under the sea, which is rather boring in itself. Minifig from the Front with Helmet The Minifig in this set is a generic Hydronaut, with the same helmet included in other sets. I believe that the trans-orange studs are supposed to be lights to help him see in the trenches of the ocean floor but I can't really tell. Oddly the visor on his helmet has a gaping hole in the center which beggs the question, "Whats the point?" Truthfully I have no idea. The Minifig from the Back with Helmet From this angle you can see why I call him the hunchback of the sea. His helmet weighs so much that he must be leaning very far forward to balance. There is no back printing but you can see the silver arrows better from this angle. Not sure what their there for but I do know this destroys my light theory. The Minifig from the front without Helmet The torso is one strong point of the set as it is detailed with plenty of gauges and other diver things. The face also seems to have some breathing apparatus printed over what looks like a classic smile. The problem is that the angle that it crosses his eyes gives him a permanently angry look. I guess he should be angry though having to carry around that helmet all day. The Minifig from the back without Helmet From the back there is nothing to see except a better example of the bad posture that this guy needs to balance with the helmet. For this reason I call him Quasimodo. Interesting Part The best part of this set by far is the inclusion of this wonderful chrome helmet. Not very rare but still nice. The Sub No real build to speak of (took me about 30 seconds) so we'll get on to the model itself. Seriously you don't even need instructions, if you gave a monkey enough time they could do it. Probably one of the worst models TLC has ever released. None of the colors work very well together, the light grey is random. A combination of black and yellow would have been better. The Side Nothing to see. This is one set that I would have welcomed stickers with. The Back From here you can see the propeller that moves the sub. It may need some help though as it's not very aerodynamic. You can also see another flaw in this set. Looking through the yellow turbine we see dark green. That is in fact the front of the sub. I don't think that subs getting very far full of water. The Attempt to Enter the Sub Here we see Quasimodo trying to get in his sub. Not sure why though, as you can see there are no controls, maybe he just wants to sit in it. Also just to get in it he has to step on the wind shield of the sub. Inside the Sub... Kind Of After jumping into the sub and somehow closing the door Quasi realizes that he does not fit while wearing his headlights. Apparently thats what the grey headlight brick at the top is for. Really Inside the Sub This is apparently how Quasi is supposed to fit inside. It wouldn't have been too complicated but it wasn't in the instructions. I can only imagine the number of kids who never figured this out for themselves. Overall The overall look of this set is disappointing. Here we see Quasi looking angry that all TLC gave him was a sub he couldn't fit in very well. Overall Rating Minifig: 6/10 He can't even stand up. What kind of minifig is that. Parts: 5/10 Poorly designed with no great pieces for MOCing Price: 5/10 For only $4 I can't rate it lower than a 5 but if I had the choice I wouldn't buy it again. Playability: 3/10 Uh.... the propeller spins but thats about it. Overall: 5/10 Obviously not very good, I'd buy it for $1.00 but thats about it. With his helmet weighing him down and his Sub at the bottom of the ocean Quasimodo calls the coast guard to bail mim out. Pictures can be seen here:Flickr
  25. Nice job I like the color scheme of it. What kind of store is that?
