I'm sure if someone put enough time into this, a real flying lego plane could be done. Itwould have to be somhitng much more powerfull thana 9v motor though. You'd have to look into RC car motors (real RC cars like Tamyia, HPI,Trintiy etc.., not the TRU brands.)
-
You can also try hobby stores. Many have parts like this for RC planes. Some of the cheaper models use springs for the landing gearsand such.

No you couldn't. While yes, i do believe that parents are the main influence, i don't think you quite understand my point. Do i believe that toys can have an influlence on children? Yes i do. This is why making porn toys, or toys about racism would be wrong. But in this case, there is no racism. Your concern that imaginary made up aliens teaches kids that things that are different are wrong cause there bad guys. No. I do not agree with that. Nor would i put the blame on the toys is they started making racist coments, cause the toys are not racist in any way. You are seriously looking way to far into this.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles -- SPOILER ALERT !
5150 Lego replied to SWMAN's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I have to say, so far i don't care for what there doing with the series this season. Its like thier getting a little phyilisofical. This is terminator. I want to see cyborgs blow things up! -
Very cool. I'll check it from time to time.

I see were your getting at, but i'm not sure thats a fair comparision. While i do believe that enviorment can have an influence with children, thats completely different than the influence that one is seen at the home. In your example, your using tests that African American kids are given to analyze how they see there "accociations" as you call it. These results are findings that children base on what they have learned, as well as obsurved while growing up. Its quite obvious that African Americans have been stereo typed against for years. This is not fiction, but fact. As such, a Parent can on do so much. The point of this thread is the stereo types against FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. The dolls that these kids preferr of the other is not based on real life, and not what media portrays as "Good" or "Bad". As an African American myself, i could go on for hours about this subject, but thats a whole different subject i'd rather we not get into.

I liked it. Once you release that its meant to entertain and not be an academy warding winning "Film" then i'm sure you will like it too. While i don't believe it was perfect, i do believe they captured the spirt of TF's (oh boy, here comes the flame jobs form the G Winers ). I think bay learned from the first film and alot of the "problems" that people (Gwiners) had have been addressed for the second movie. Whew...! Now that i got that off my chest,on with our regularly scheduled program! As far as the new Knight Rider series goes.... Its ok. I guess they could have done alot worse. I wasn't to thrilled to learn that Kitt was going to be a Mustang, but i guess they weren't left with much of a choice. I think they would have better success if they waited for the 2010 Camaro since that would at least been from the same manufacter, as well as basicly being a firebird. But back to the stories and plot.... There alot of things i would have preferred to see. Like i think it would have been better if Kitt had a bif rig to drive into like the oringal series instead of a home base or the C-130 Cargo Plane that he gets dropped off in. I also think his "Turbo"mode is Horrible. He looks like his dad was a 67" Mustang, and his Mom was a Honda civic. his Turbo mode in the made for TV pilot movie was much better. I wish they sticked with that version instead of the abomination they came up with for the series. There's other things, but hey, what you gonna do? This is the final season anyways, and i think there's only a few episodes left.

With that said, why couldn't a child today play with simular toys or Human vs. monster lego themes and not have an once of prejudice? I know i've said this before, but i really think people here don't give kids enough credit, and are putting blame in the wrong place. If a child grows up with prejudice, or i hear a "racist" stereotype from him/her, sorry, i'm not going to blame the plastic toys he/she plays with. My blame will go soley on the parents. People these days (kids and grown ups alike) never want to take responsibility for there actions anymore. There letting the media influence them more than ever. Is this the medias fault? Absolutely not! If my child one day hits a kid on the playground, or says a racist remark to another indivdual, i'm not goin to blame his Lego sets. I mean com'on guys really?? I mean listen to this.. "Jonny, why did you hit that little boy at school today?" "Well dad, he had a funny looking head, dressed different and acted wierd. He was different than me, so i felt it ok to hit him." "Why did you feel it was ok son?" "Well dad, the in the LEGO sets you bought me, the aliens are bad, and they look funny. So are the rock monsters and evil looking trolls. So i naturaly asumed that anything different means its bad." Sorry peeps, but i don't buy my kid saying that to me as i'm driving him home from school. And if that did ever happen, i would not be pulling his LEGO from him because i felt it was a "Bad influence". Obviously, some where I failed to teach my child that stereotypes are not ok. This would be my fault, NOT TLC's. And if i felt i had taught him not to fear whats different, i still would not be blaming his plastic building toys because Humans are good, and Aliens and Rock Monsters are protrayed as bad. As far as Power Miners go,there's nothing to say that it couldn't be the senerio or story you just described. Bottom line is this. TLC can make up a story to go with any theme they create, but at the end of the day, kids are going to do what they want. They will make up there own stories, there own conflict (if any) and own endings. Some will be good, some will be bad. But if they end up some where down the line in there young life learning about stereotypes, best believe it will not be from plastic building toys about fictional characters.

Very nice engine. Good portrayal of the rear thing. Is there any way you could add red down by the hitch and bumpers? It would help break up all the black as well as add realisim.

Opening sealed antique sets - wonderful or painful ?
5150 Lego replied to drdavewatford's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm with Bman 110% on this. personally, i never quite understood buying a set then putting it away for years in hope it will one day turn a profit. I say "hope" because nothing is garranteed. The worlds economyis not at its greatest right now. There's nothing to say that somthing could possible happen (Major disaster, war, colaping economy etc) that would drasticly drop the value of said set. Heck, lego could decide to release 2 more up to date versions whitch would also hurt the value. What happens then? Your just left with a box of bricks to look at. Anyways, there's no garrantee when you would sell it either. There are quite a few MIB that have been trying to seell on brickshelf for years. one seller i was talking to had a MIB 4884 techinc super car. Market for this was (and might stil be) around $400 USD. Problem is he's had this selling now for over 5 years with no biters. I say open it up, buil it and enjoy it! You don't have to play with it or anything. Build a glass box for it to be displayed in and sit it on your coffee table if you like. let others enjoy your hobby, and you never know, you might even meet a fellow LEGO collector that you invited in for coffee and cake! -
Agreed. While i do also admire the pasion Grevious has for his favorite theme, to be honest, you can defend it till the day you die, but your not going to change anyones opinion about it (bionicle) either. I'm no more convinced that Bionicle is any better than when i first posted about disliking it. Sorry, but thats just the way i feel and it seems many others as well. Again, i admire your pasion for your favorite theme, but you also must realise that its not for everyone.

My guess is the 3rd movie. Forgive me as i can't remember from memory, but did the dino bots also form a combiner?
-
After seeing the video of the the Agents airial defence, its a defenat must have for me. I'm happy to see that the rotors are infact conected so they don't slap against each other. And the fact than they spin by the rear thumb control is incredible! The size is actually nice too! not overly big like the hellocopter in dino attack, but not to small either.

With the 09 toy fair comes pics of TF ROTF toys. May i present to you.... DEVESTATOR! As far as Devastator goes, there are three versions planned. The first is the $100 version where the six individual Constructicons do not have robot modes, just vehicles mode that reconfigure to form the gestalt (think Voltron). That Devastator will be 2 feet high and about 4 feet wide. The next is the individual Constructicons that do have robot forms but cannot merge. The last is the PowerBot that doesn't really transform, itβs the Devastator look on the front and the individual vehicles painted on the back. Breakdown of the six constructions: Demolishor - red O&K/Terex RH400 Hydrolic Mining Excavator (torso) Rampage - yellow Caterpillar 992G Front Loader (right arm) Long Haul - green Caterpillar 773B Dump Truck (right leg) Mix Master - silver Mack Cement Mixer (head) High Tower - yellow Kobelco CK2500 Truss Crane (left arm) Scrapper - yellow Caterpillar D9L Bulldozer (left leg) As you can see, the RH400 from the trailer gets an official name. Overall the leak back in October was on the mark on the Constructicons except for the duplicate dump truck which now seems to have been a potential alt design for Long Haul. The CGI version... When i first saw it, i didn't care for the design to much. But after a while it grew on me. One things for sure, he looks very menacing whitch i believe was the main point. I'll reserve full judgment intill i see it on screen.

I was going to sugject the same thing. Other than that, great looking truck!

Grevious, While i agree that this is turning into more of 'Whitch is your favorite/least favorite theme", what did you expect? There weren't any guide lines as to what qualifies a theme as best/worst. So to be honest, there really isn't any right or wrong anwser. You also have to remember, people are going to have different reasons why they feel certain themes are the best/worst. While you might feel JPIII was worst because of set design or sales, somone might think the designs were good. Same with other non popular themes. Your absolutly right. Just like how many people here make claims of "<insert that tiresome argument>" parts like the passenger plane wings when its been proven that ther has been quite a few different uses for them. Your also right about them being first and formost kids toys. LOL. You sound a bit like me when i argue with people when they complain about junorized parts! As for me not liking bionicle. Well, what can i say. I don't like the theme. Never had, never will. I never cared for the whole story, never cared for the character design, and yes, i have a hard time pronouncing the names! So for those reasons, i don't like bionicle. IS it a succesfull theme? Absolutely. One of Legos most successfull. But that doesn't mean i have to like it.

Very cool. Based on your train car, i think TLC should made all of thier engines and cars 8 wide. It just looks much more complete,as well as gives more interior detail. The lugage rack is cool! Great Job!
-
Yup. Thats it. The first Scudiera truck was only $69.99. If my finacail situation picks up, i just might pick this up, and make one big megablocks Scudeira truck! We'll see though.
-
Best- 1- Techinc I love functions inmy sets 2- City. These have gotten alot more detailed and to scale in the last few years. 3- Agents. Great new them with lots of great detail and cool vehicles. Worst- 1-Bionicle. Names i can't pronounce and a buch of usless parts. no thank you. 2-pirates. Lame. Just lame. I think TLC really feel short on this one. 3-Avatar. lame theme, lame sets.

The price for the Euro Cargois what is really disapointing. It costs more than the original Scuderia truck and it was twice its size!!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles -- SPOILER ALERT !
5150 Lego replied to SWMAN's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Just saw the new episode. They had Chrommarty (Henry jones now) was playing with bionicle's! -
I think your right Tony. And i agree with you.
-
True, but if you look at the size of the front wheel wells, as well as the postion of the front wheels, you'll notice that there slightly tilted. My guess thatthis one does in fact have steering andnot justa tease like 4939 was. The good thing is that it looks like 4939 is the same scale as the cars that come with the car carrier. SOit looks like we can load the trailer up!

$90?? It says $60. But to be honest, i think thats a bit much. Damm inflation.
