(2015) May The 4th Be With You Offers - Discussion thread!
Blondie-Wan replied to Lobot's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It is Star Wars purchases only, but no minimum amount. A Microfighter or even a keychain will do. I half suspect there will be a not-yet-announced seventh poster in November, for Star Wars - Episode VII: The Force Awakens. -

I just got back from my local LEGO Store, where I bought a fair amount of Star Wars stuff, and they gave me an Admiral Yularen. I did tell them that I placed an order yesterday that was already getting me one, and that I totally would understand if they wanted to not give me this one in order to make sure there were enough to go around, but the nice employee put it in with my purchase anyway. Huzzah! -

It does say in the promo terms & conditions that it's limited to one per household. I don't remember seeing that stipulation with previous years' minifigure promos. It might be a bummer for those of us who want extra Yularens as fodder for trades, converting to Thrawn or whatever, but it'd surely be an even bigger bummer for those fans who weren't able to get one at all because LEGO ran out of them sending multiples to well-heeled fans who make multiple purchases early. Consider how most of their Star Wars promo giveaways run out before the ends of the promo periods. They're probably trying to avoid that. It does suck for households with more than one fan, though. -
And one might reasonably assume that since the whole theme is, after all, "The Simpsons", they'll want to always include at least some of the core family members in a given Minifigures series, meaning new character variations for them as well as, say, (just) 10-12 other, mostly new characters per series. This theme could go a long time, if LEGO's interested. So far, they've used 44 minifigures (two 16-minifigure Minifigures series, plus two 6-minifigure sets) to bring us "just" 27 characters (excluding non-"minifigure" characters like Snowball II, Santa's Little Helper and the frozen version of Jasper). Then again, there's enough source material for any number of other, now-dormant licensed themes to have kept them going longer than they did.

Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
Blondie-Wan replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thanks, both of you. That's all pretty much what I'd have guessed, but it's good to have more concrete info from those who actually know this stuff far better than I do myself. -
It's possible the CUUSOO project was rejected for some other reason entirely, but it could also be that this game was already in the works with the Portal license already attached, and the fan project unfortunately conflicted with license terms already in place. From what I understand, it's widely anticipated Star Wars will be added to Disney Infinity later this year (with a 3.0 edition of the game), but I don't know if that's been confirmed anywhere. I do expect it to happen, though, and that neither that franchise nor its younger whip-cracking sibling will be in LEGO Dimensions for that reason. Speaking as someone who adores Star Wars, Indiana Jones and LEGO, I'd obviously like to think that wasn't the case, but oh, well. LEGO Dimensions still will have not only plenty of cool franchises, but also hands-down the best toys out of all these games, simply because they're LEGO. And hey, look at all the themes and series we do (probably) have: NinjaGo Legends of Chima The LEGO Movie Back to the Future DC Comics Doctor Who Ghostbusters Jurassic Park Middle-Earth Portal Scooby-Doo The Simpsons The Wizard of Oz Not too shabby, if you ask me. I will admit none of these mean quite as much to me personally as the two Lucasfilm properties that have been LEGO themes, but a few of them come close, and I can always enjoy LEGO anything.

Posters from the store(s) pretty much always come folded. That said, I understand they gave these out in advance (not just the current Episode IV one, but all six episodes' posters) at the LEGO booth at this year's Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim a couple weeks ago, and I think those copies were rolled. -
My major pipe dream fantasy for the game is that they began working on it sometime from 2011 to 2012 (which would make sense, as that would be when Skylanders created the whole "toys to life" genre), and just prior to Lucasfilm's acquisition by Disney the game's makers obtained a license from Lucasfilm to incorporate their characters (as happened with the last-minute deal to put Star Wars characters in The LEGO Movie), so we could get Star Wars and Indiana Jones characters in the game despite Disney's ownership. Not that I seriously expect that to be the case, of course; it's just nice to dream about.

Is it possible the Level Packs won't all uniformly follow a "1 minifigure and 2 other builds" model - that one might have two minifigures, for example, like a Team Pack?- 527 replies

DC Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussions
Blondie-Wan replied to Ezekiel2517's topic in LEGO Licensed
Quite possibly posted by LEGO itself, at that. Access to the instructions won't be the primary obstacle to recreating this set; sourcing those tires probably will be. Isn't the UCS Tumbler the only other set that has them? Of course, since the Batpod comes from the Tumbler anyway... -

Aha, I knew it! I fully anticipate getting them all, or at the very least all the OT ones. Like the folks you observed, I want a bunch of Microfighters anyway, so I'll have no trouble finding a small thing I want each month. -

Part of me thinks that still doesn't necessarily mean that Portal, since it doesn't give any information about just what portal it is, and lots of different franchises and LEGO themes involve portals of one sort or another - indeed, even this very game itself is already based around a portal. But it certainly lends credence to the idea of it being Portal the videogame franchise. The other franchises here are all expected, though. I have to assume the prices listed there are just placeholders or something, and that they won't really charge as much as $60 for add-ons, but you never know...- 527 replies

Well, wow. I am still somewhat skeptical about Portal, as in Portal the video game franchise, since "Portal" in this context could still refer to something else - the very base game here includes a portal, after all, and portals of one sort or another turn up in various other LEGO themes and in franchises upon which various themes are based. But it certainly does lend additional support to the idea. Legends of Chima, Jurassic World and Scooby-Doo are expected, of course, but it's nice to have some confirmation. But what is up with those prices?

I was disappointed by the lack of a sale on the big-ticket items, but several smaller items I do want are 10% or 20% off. I happily ordered the B-Wing, the Skyhopper and the Artoo & Threepio watch, which together sufficed to also get me Admiral Yularen and the poster, and I plan to get a few more small and medium-sized sets tomorrow. I mentioned it a couple times earlier in the thread, but my understanding is that they're offering a different poster each month from now until October, in the movies' release order, so that we're getting Episode IV: A New Hope this whole May the Fourth weekend, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in June, and so on up until Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in October. This appears to be corroborated by the June store calendar, which show they're giving out the Empire poster that month, starting on the 22nd. -

You're missing several characters who are officially known. There are nineteen characters that have been specifically announced, including everybody from the starter set and all packs: Jay Nya Zane Cole Kai Emmet Wyldstyle Unikitty Benny Bad Cop Gandalf Legolas Gimli Gollum Batman Wonder Woman Cyborg Marty McFly The Wicked Witch of the West ... though I don't profess to be able to match up all of them with those blurry smears from the box picture. I don't know, but my guess is that every playable character in the game will be made playable via a real-world figure (i.e., we won't just unlock characters in-game without having actual figures that come with their bases, and the only characters we can play using the base set without any add-ons are Wyldstyle, Batman and Gandalf). I also suspect it is not meant to be the full list of all characters that will ever be released for the game, but just the initial ones released either at launch or soon after (within the first year).- 527 replies

Where are you seeing ads for it? All I've seen is the early version of the site, with the basic info, but no ads anywhere. Are you talking about retailer listings, perhaps? Or journalistic coverage?

With Friends having clearly become one of TLG's most important, "core" themes, I can fully see it eventually getting additional leg and torso molds to represent children and so on (it already uses different molds for different types of clothing, for male and female bodies and for adult and teenaged female bodies, after all). Whether it happens in time for Elves to make use of them, though, or whether Elves will even have need of them, is up in the air. One thing I could see is a totally new, much smaller figure type - perhaps a single-piece, non-articulated one - being introduced to go with the minidolls, something that is to minidolls as the minifigure trophy is to traditional minifigures. It could be used in Friends to represent dolls / action figures, or in a theme like Elves, here, to represent actual fairies. They have already created at least one totally new figure for this theme, after all - the baby dragon - in addition to the multiple new elf-eared hair elements. _______________________________ Could the initial post in the thread be edited to include the Azari polybag and the summer sets?

Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
Blondie-Wan replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Hey, all. If you constraction enthusiasts will forgive a basic question from a mostly-"System" builder who tends to be fairly clueless about the constraction stuff, just what are the major differences between the current CCBS style and the earlier stuff? To my unlearned eyes, the distinctions between "old" Bionicles and newer ones are are not entirely apparent. Do the parts of different eras not directly connect to one another, or what? I know enough to know what "CCBS" stands for, for example, and I do get that if represents something of a new step for this venerable line, but I don't know exactly how. (I'd ask in a different thread, but since this one is the one that raised the question in my mind, it seemed to belong here.) -

Huh. FWIW, S@H (at least in the U.S.) doesn't have it tagged as Retiring Soon. Of course, stuff does frequently go away before / without getting that tag, but I'd expect them to use it for a big, major D2C item like the Death Star. -
I think the best chance of getting a new The Hobbit / The Lord of the Rings set through LEGO Ideas would be had by getting multiple projects into the same review batch (and by at least some of them being of reasonable size, not 8000-piece monstrosities).

I'd like to be able to still see all the expired projects, though (and all the archived ones as well, which have never shown up in searches, though one can still find them if you know either what you're looking for, so you can just Google them, or look at their creators' Projects pages). I'd rather not have anything disappear for good, though I'd agree expired projects shouldn't turn up for basic searches by default. -

You can filter the results as well as sort them. The filter lets you look at just Staff Picks and/or Trending This Month, as well as projects with any specific tags, in addition to limiting results by Project State - such as Gathering Support, Achieved Support, In Review, Project Approved, Project Not Approved, and so on. This section is how I was able to see the exact number of projects that have expired in The Great Purge, since one of the options is Expired - before today it returned 0 results, and now it returns 5904 (huh, I must have misread "5904" as "5909" earlier). Anyway, you can easily limit it to just projects that are "Gathering Support", which shows you everything you can vote on, and nothing that you can't. -

Oh, I hadn't even noticed when I made my earlier post that this excellent HMS Beagle project has even more time than that, by one day. -
Indeed, no CUUSOO / Ideas project so far has cost more than $50, even - they've all run somewhere from $19.99 to $49.99 in the US (save for the very first, which was never released anywhere other than Japan, but which LEGO has actually listed as being a $50 USD set). That said, the upcoming sets based on The Big Bang Theory and WALL*E seem reasonably likely to break that price barrier... but of course they still won't be anywhere close to $200 or more.
