LEGO Dimensions – Counting the LEGO Multiverse
Blondie-Wan replied to TalonCard's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The way I read the movie, the LEGO universe inhabited by Emmet, Wyldstyle, etc. isn't "just" a product of Finn's imagination, but a parallel universe that is linked to it and to the greater world in which Finn and his dad live. IIRC, remarks from the filmmakers corroborate this; I'll have to try to dig them up and see if I'm right. Moreover, though, consider that the movie starts 8 1/2 years earlier - probably right around the time Finn is born. I don't think that's a coincidence. -
LEGO Dimensions – Counting the LEGO Multiverse

Brilliant! And I even learned something - I somehow hadn't realized LEGO made its first Disney toy all the way back in the '30s (!). I personally would put the two Lucasfilm "sibling" franchises closer together in the numbering, in recognition of the many connections between the two in the real world, internal references and in-jokes, and outright crossovers in a few non-canonical sources (including multiple LEGO-related ones). Oh, and also, by 2006A do you mean the main universe of the movie? I'm not sure it was actually created by Finn, but rather exists on a plane of its own that intersects with "ours" (Finn's) and which Finn is able to perceive and interact with in a limited way. There is, of course, an entire grand discussion to be had on the exact nature of the universe(s) depicted in The LEGO Movie, and indeed such a discussion has been going on from time to time in the various threads on that film / theme here. -
I was under the impression the fifteen packs already officially announced, including Unikitty, were all supposedly to be available at launch. But I might be wrong... I am quite sure, though, there is no way LEGO would want to do something with Mad Max or most especially RoboCop (!), at least not if we're talking about the movies (as opposed to a kid-friendly cartoon version, which actually does exist). RoboCop is simply far, far, far too kid-unfriendly a property for LEGO to ever do anything with it.

I saw this on LEGO Ideas before I saw it here. I'm supporting it, and I wish you the best of luck!

I'm not even absolutely sure the box art is necessarily finalized. All those minifigures could be placeholders, for all we know.

In some (most?) countries / territories, but not all. Notably, Monday the 4th was the last day for the promo in the US. -

My Saturday order mostly arrived yesterday, save for the backordered B-Wing. -
Of course there are rumors of a full theme! :D We don't really know for sure yet just what they'll do, though. But it does seem likely we'll get at least a couple different incarnations of the Doctor, if only because having a couple different Doctors (one "classic", like Four, and one "nuWho", like Ten or Twelve) was part of the proposal for the Ideas project that got chosen (and one of the things that distinguished the winning project from the other, fairly similar Doctor Who project that was in the same review batch, and which this one beat even though the other one got its votes faster). Also, Metro reports they've been unofficially told Doctor Who will be a part of the LEGO Dimensions videogame.

Keep in mind the Corvette and Golden Girls are from one review batch, while the Piano and the Labyrinth are from another. Unless they hold stuff over again (which is quite possible; they've done it multiple times before), we'll get results on the latter two (along with seven other projects) in the very near future (the next couple days or weeks), while we won't hear about the Corvette and Golden Girls (and the other eleven projects with them) for a few more months. -

Yes, and that might be a plus as far as LEGO is concerned - it means an opportunity to sell LEGO to people who don't normally buy it. Probably not, but perhaps. I'm not a fan of the show, per se, but I generally enjoyed it. Moreover, it looks like it would be a fantastic set for parts, as well as greatly expanding the range of fleshtone faces available. There really isn't a great selection of older women's faces in non-yellow, and this would give us four. Honestly, the only reason I might not buy it is because of the expense. I'm considering buying the set for The Big Bang Theory, after all, and I don't like that show as much as this one (I do have an interest in TBBT, but it's complicated by tons of stuff about the show that I don't care for). The Daft Punk one, meanwhile, I'd definitely buy - it would probably be a very small and inexpensive yet very sweet parts pack. And I do enjoy what I've heard of their music, though I'm not familiar with much of it yet. -

The Maze is definitely a playable thing, though; it's clearly meant to be played with, as opposed to being a display piece. And yeah, it's fun - maybe not for every human being that ever lived, but then nothing is. No, I haven't played with that specific model, but I have played with mazes of that type before (just not in LEGO), and I think it's reasonable to think playing with a LEGO one would be like playing with a non-LEGO one, only with the added playability of being able to reconfigure the maze yourself (and of course use the bricks to build something entirely different later). And I think you'd be surprised with Golden Girls. No, it wouldn't set the world on fire or displace Star Wars as the top-selling LEGO license or anything like that, but a single set? I can actually see that selling, honestly. And it's telling that not only did this project get all the votes, but there are two other projects on the site, both by other people. Not only have several thousand people voted for these, but at least three different fans love both LEGO and the show enough to have created Ideas projects for it. That's more than some fantasy / science fiction / adventure franchises have gotten. -

The Winter 2014 Review Results - the results announcement in which they announced the Female Minifigure Set (that eventually became the Research Institute) was approved - also featured an entire review batch from which no projects were selected; the Female Minifigure Set had been held over from a previous batch for additional consideration. It's fortunate they did have it to fall back on, as it gave them something they could announce when everything in the following batch was being declined. I like the Piano, and until not long ago I thought it had a strong shot, but it seems possible it might be disqualified for a possible rules violation - the Ideas terms say you may not sell anything pertaining to a project, but it appears the creator may be selling either instructions or built copies of the project model. I hope not, since I'd like to see it become a set, but of course it's the Ideas team's call. Most of the other projects in this batch are so big it's tough to see LEGO taking a chance on them. The Natural History Museum might stand a chance though, since it falls neatly into the modular buildings line which is a proven seller for them. The only issue, I think, is whether they'd release it at the same time as one of their own (since they already release a new one each year, like clockwork; we can be sure they're already well into work on one for next year, and possibly even already working on one for 2017), or let an Ideas project "take the place" of whatever one they were going to release in a given year, and push their own buildings back one year each. Having to choose between one of those options might doom it, but even so I think it's the likeliest of all the really large projects in this batch. I think the other strongest contender from this batch, besides the Piano, is the Labyrinth Marble Maze. It's a distinctive project unlike anything they've done before, it's fun to play with, it's probably easily turned into a set from the proposal model, it's free of licensing or brand fit issues, it requires no unusual colors or parts or anything not already in production, and it illustrates the greater range of possibilities LEGO offers that many people might not be aware of. I think the Labyrinth is therefore probably the strongest contender from this batch, and the Museum and (assuming it's not disqualified) the Piano are the other strongest two. Not that I know, though, of course. -

Only one has actually gotten to 10k so far, though the other two each got a boost from the success of that one. -
No, this thread is for the unpopular opinions, not the ones held by nearly everyone here. ;)

I wonder... should the topic title be changed to "What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Acquisition"? That way it would more accurately cover everything - not just what we've bought, but what we've been given, what we've traded for, what we've found in a ditch by the side of the road... That said, my own recent acquisitions are purchases, or freebies with purchases (May the Fourth goodies, of course). On Saturday I ordered (and am still awaiting receipt of): 75050 B-Wing 75081 T-16 Skyhopper 5002210 C-3PO & R2-D2 Watch 5004592 LEGO Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope poster 5002947 Admiral Yularen ... and Sunday I went in person to my own local LEGO Store and picked up: 2x 75052 Mos Eisley Cantina 75074 Snowspeeder Microfighter 75032 X-Wing Fighter Microfighter 5004592 LEGO Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope poster 5002947 Admiral Yularen I was very, very torn on whether or not to allow myself a really large purchase (the Death Star and/or Ewok Village), but I think I'll get one of those next month.

It's an opinion thread. The OP specifically asked for our unpopular opinions, and that's one of mine. There was no indication we'd have to justify or defend them. That said, I may get around to it, but if I do I'll do it in a more appropriate thread over in the licensed forum, so as not to derail this one. Since you said "in my area", though, I will note here I'm talking specifically about pricing in my own "area" (the US), and not about the bizarre-to-the-point-of-insanity pricing inflicted upon so many other countries and regions.

I said I don't think licensed sets are really any more expensive than comparable non-licensed ones. :p ;)
-
I think the Star Wars Planets sets were great, and I wish they'd made more and kept the series alive. I think there's too much grey in Star Wars. I think Belville was an interesting line that more could have been done with. I don't think licensed sets are really any more expensive than comparable non-licensed ones. I think ultra-rare convention-exclusive minifigures are off-putting.

I didn't say they were generous with Australian prices or shipping; I know perfectly well they're much the opposite. I was saying they were generous with this one specific contest. I recall them giving away large, expensive sets before, but not usually twenty copies at a time. This contest is one of the more generous ones they've run - that's all I was saying. -

That means they're giving out a total of 20 UCS TIEs. That's pretty generous, actually. I may be wrong, not being in your part of the world, but I don't think you'd need to spend that much to get all the posters. A single Star Wars purchase each month should do it, even if it's just a keychain or something. -
I'm sure that's why legofanatic12 made a point of saying the 1949 TV series, not the 2013 Disney film. Disney owns that specific version of The Lone Ranger, but I don't think they completely own the franchise. That said, I think it's highly unlikely. But then I wouldn't have thought we'd get Portal in this, either, or that The Simpsons would ever be a theme, or that an Ideas project based on The Big Bang Theory would get approved, so what do I know...

I would think so, but even if not I would consider returning it the right thing to do. I went to my local brick & mortar LEGO Store today after making an online order from Shop @ Home yesterday. They gave me the Admiral Yularen even though I told them I was already getting one with an order I made yesterday. Perhaps it's at the discretion of individual employees or managers, or they don't worry about it if you get them from different sources (i.e., physical store vs. online, or different physical stores).
