  1. Brickster strikes again with another awesome review! Ah, one of the few hospital related kits lego made. Wasn't this the first hospital with modern minifigs? (because I seem to remember seeing an even older hospital online that had the armless, faceless figs). Regardless, this would be great as a little doctor's office in someone's town layout - although the vehicle is a little silly. And that eye chart sticker has to be the coolest decal EVER. Well, it sure isn't me. I personally love older kits, even though I'm only a teen. I like a lot of the newer sets a bit more than some of the classic stuff, but I have always agreed that the 70's and 80's were an extremely high point in lego's time (even though I don't really own any kits from the period)
  2. Great review of a classic set. Man, this is sure a wondeful kit, even today. The level of detail is astounding for the time, and the whole kit is really cute. You know, I honestly don't get why some people have complained about the CITY gas station's figure count - the majority of lego gas stations had no more than three figures - including this one and the wonderful Gas and Wash Express (which I actually own!). I also don't get why people complain about the stickers so much - because even older kits often had a lot. Personally, I think stickers are okay, because printed pieces can't be used in as many places if the stickers are really specialized.
  3. Great! This kinda reminds me of a story I read about a couple who held a starwars wedding, where everyone dressed up as starwars characters. Hm, is this like how everyone is related to Chuck Norris?
  4. Easily the original MTT - which is really crap to the highest level you can get in Starwars. Even in that year the set was horrible - the color scheme was whacked, the design was weak, and it had too few figures. I'm glad that TLC made the awesome remake in 2007, because the original is just I couldn't disagree more - I thought that all the sets they released in that line were very well designed, and resembled the characters really well. Okay, the Stormtrooper may have been a bit weak, but all the rest were cool (especially some of the droids and Darth Vader). I especially loved that a lot of them had action features and instructions to rebuild them into classic starwars vehicles.
  5. Yes, this set needs to be released to the general public. Imagine what could happen in the future if this set sells well: maybe an oil rig or other sets in this vein!
  6. Thanks for the great review. Yes, I am loving this set. The new magna guards and the canopy piece are both must haves, but the whole kit is great. And at least this set has two figures - unlike the V-19.
  7. Thanks for the great review. I'm loving this set a lot - it looks well designed, and the helicopter is awesome! Plus, I love the new worker figure with the beard. I wouldn't say that at all - true, this base is bigger, but the other set was well designed as well - plus the included boat is wonderful.
  8. Thanks for the great reviews Kal. I totally agee with basically everything you said. Alaxara and the other two vehicles look wonderful if you want giant technic builds, and Takanuva is total OWN. I'll get Taka for sure, although I probably won't get Alaxara because of the HUGE price tag.
  9. For once I must totally agree with Athos. I appreciate that TLC is trying something new, but..... these sets honestly look like some of the most boring specials we've ever gotten from TLC.
  10. I'm thinking that might be possible as well - especially since I'm also begining to think that Takanuva's destiny at the end of 2008 will be to turn into a turaga.
  11. I totally agree. I'm okay with the one in the canister set, as it still kinda reminds me of Lewa, but the one in Alaxara is so much better.
  12. King Kong. Honestly, I was extremely disapointed by this movie, after having such high hopes for it. All the action scenes were great, but there were some serious flaws that kinda spoiled it for me: - Firstly, parts of the movie really dragged. Certain scenes were so slow and drawn out that they weren't enjoyable at all - mainly the scenes with Ann and King Kong. True, they were somewhat touching, but they were so long that they lost some of their effect. - Another problem - there were at least two gigantic plotholes. How did the Captian and the remaining crew members find the guys when they were being attacked by the giant bugs? And more importantly: How in blazes did they get a violent, 25 foot tall ape all the way back to New York on a damaged steamboat, when not even giant iron chains could hold Kong back? - And the final big spoiler - all the main characters except Ann like to use the same two swear words over and over again, which makes the dialogue so ridiculous that it's as silly as the dialogue in current Batman comics. Just replace G*d-D**m with Je*us and Cr*st and you've got King Kong. So overall, a really disapointing movie for me. I won't be watching it again.
  13. Heh. But you've gotta remember that each new line of Matoran has eventually been referred to by a different names. There's been Metruan, Voyatoran, Mahritoran, etc. I guess you're right though - as the fans have always made the new matoran subnames, not TLC.
  14. Well, for starters, I think they should keep the old good guys and bad guys - but give them new uniforms and a few new teammates. Also, I'd love to see another awesome base for Dr Inferno - a water base, moon base, or arctic base would all be cool. For vehicles, I'd like a big sea boat for the Agents, and some sort of jet propelled flying vehicle for Dr. Inferno. As for locations, a desert mission and a mission in the city would be awesome.
  15. It's a 5, as this looks like a wonderful set for its time. You've got several vehicles, lots of working features, and plenty of cool, rare pieces. What else could you want in an early 70's set?
  16. I gave it a five. Today it's nothing special design wise at all, but back in 1978 this probably was state of the art lego. The plane is extremely realistic, and it even comes with two figures and a boat! I agree. I really never got using those small, four seater planes as standard passenger planes in the 90's and 80's. As private planes they work great, but the new City planes work far better as standard airport owned passenger planes. And as you said, the pieces actually aren't useless - TLC itself has shown how they can be used creatively.
  17. Great review. This set totally OWNS Alpha Team Deep Sea. The sub design actually LOOKS like a sub, the figures are way better, the acessories are better - everything is better! Agents may have my vote for the best theme of the year. Oh don't worry - a second wave will be coming next year. This was confirmed by both legomilk and in an interview with an Agents designer.
  18. Hehehehe - well it probably didn't happen because I apparently was the only one there that had actually seen that video. And I sure wasn't going to embarrass myself. However, I did show my knowledge of the video in another way. Know how I won the book in the trivia contest? Well, after the first prize winner got his awesome prize, me and another fan battled it out for a while for second place. Finally, Greg gave us a question "that you'll really have to guess on." What was the question? "About how tall is Mata Nui? 7 meters, 700 meters, 70000 meters, or 700000 meters?" Well, you can guess what I said. The other kid guessed 7 meters, so I won. On another note, something else I learned was that some company actually approached Greg about the possibility of making a feature length motion picture of Bionicle for the big screen! Nothing's set in stone yet, and it may not work out - but still, WOAH. Actually, I have a hunch that the poster of Mata Nui will really be a map of the entire Matoran Universe, with the island of Mata Nui as the head, and a partly submerged body below it. Now that would be cool. Oh, BTW, Vastus aparrently is still a character in 2009, even though he's not in that level 3 reader anymore. And he's NOT a Matoran.
  19. Whoops, forgot about that. Er, well it's mainly because when greg wrote some of the book, he was working from prototype images, and aparrently one of the prototype Jallers may have had two swords for some reason. This also happened with a 2007 set - the Aqua Blaster Blade was featured as one of Nuparu Mahri's weapons in the storyline, despite it being cut from the final version of the set.
  20. Yeah guys, BZP crashed. On another note, I did go to the Bionicle event at the Wilimantic CT library today! It was really a lot of fun for a Bionicle obsessed teen like me – and I even got some cool stuff out of it! Here’s a basic rundown of what happened there: - Before the event started, Greg F. was chatting with us about various things. Nothing special, but it was pretty funny when he told us about his experiences at Comic Con in Chicago. - When the event began, Greg gave us a piece of exclusive info and an update on the new Bionicle Movie! I’ll get back to that in a minute. - After that Greg answered a lot of our questions. Now I finally know why Jaller has two swords in Bionicle Legends 7 and only one in the actual kit! (more on that in a minute as well) - Then came the best part – the trivia contest! I actually won second place (and got one of the new Bionicle graphic novels), although I wish I had won first (the prize was a piece of original black and white artwork for one of the early bionicle comics). Oh well – even though the kid who won first place was probably only half my age, he seemed to know the storyline a lot better than the rest of the younger kids there. If only I had gotten the official guide to Metru Nui in 2004 – then I would have been able to answer question 4 right! (It was about Knowledge towers, for those who are wondering) - Finally, Greg signed autographs for us. I was very thrilled. Now then – how about some exclusive info? - Some of the Federation of Fear members will return in the OOMN/Brotherhood war! (I’m thinking Brutaka) - The Haga serial will involve Toa Haga searching for Teridax’s current location! - The new Bionicle movie’s animation style will be similar to the style used in major motion picture characters like Lord of the Rings’ very own Gollum! (I mean the movement, not the actual design of the characters) - And now the big one: In the November edition of the Brickmaster magazine, there will be an exclusive four page poster of the Great Spirit Mata Nui! Finally, here’s some pictures of the event (please excuse the quality - something went wrong when my dad took the pictures): http://www.majhost.com/gallery/bk504/Bioni...nt/100_1220.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/bk504/Bioni...nt/100_1223.jpg http://www.majhost.com/gallery/bk504/Bioni...nt/100_1224.jpg Well, that's all I guess.
  21. Heh - just goes to show - pretty graphics and "mature" dialogue don't make the comic. I remember that "The Batman" also had a horible Mr Freeze - the design was amazing, but he spat out so many horrible puns that his evil voice acting just made him laughable. Although, there was one episode in season 4 where he almost totally let go of the puns and actually became cool... Oh snap - I did a pun too!
  22. Actually, the strict spoiler and leak policies have nothing to do with retaining tons of young kids. On the contrary - it all has to do with the fact that BZP has ties to the official lego company. They have Greg F as a member, one of their administrators is now webmaster of the official bionicle site, and BZP often gets special exclusive privilages to contests or bionicle info. Basically, if BZP started to post leaked images and show massive spoilers, they would lose all of that.
  23. Okay, this is getting really annoying. If you don't like BZP, fine - but unless you can explain why without just flaming, it's just immature, IMO. Jinzo certainly isn't a fan of the site, but at least he can say it in a mature way - and I respect that. If only more of you guys would follow his lead. Yeah - it seems that just because the younger members can here, they start doing it as much as possible until it just makes their posts look silly. Oh, and for some reason I have yet to find any new sets in any walmart I go to - bionicle included. That makes me really mad - because the only place that hast them is TRU, and in american Toys R Us's the prices are crap.
  24. Awesome review - just as good as your specatcular Mobile Command Center review. Man, this set is just LOVELY. Beats the old Alpha Team "volcano base" in every catergory. The piece selection is just amazing, and I love all the detailing. You can't go wrong with two exclusive figures either.
  25. Heh, that doesn't even make sense, especially considering that I remember reading somewhere that Batman himself called himself that. I think it went this way: "Who the **** do you think I am? I'm the ***-**** Batman!" Talk about out of character - Batman's never followed the crowd, so why would he reduce himself to the same level that everyone else is reducing himself too? But I think you missed my point - I was saying that people could use the same logic used on this comic and apply it to Batman and Robin - "it's so bad that it's good" - but no one ever seems too.
